“Lovely intimate hotel”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful, intimate hotel for a week at the end of May 2014. Athena, the hotel manageress, and her sister Roy consistently went above and beyond the call of duty; they are such friendly and warm people who made us feel special from the moment we arrived right through to the moment we left. We were very sad to say goodbye!

Small, intimate, and peaceful, this is the perfect place for couples looking for a romantic break. Painted white and blue and separated by small courtyards and pathways flowering with Bougainvillea, the hotel is (thankfully) more like a group of traditional Greek apartments than a hotel. We stayed in a superior studio with jacuzzi and the upgrade was definitely worth the extra money (the superior studios/suites with jacuzzis are on the second floor which seem to be more private and spacious than the rooms on the ground floor). Our room was spotless and thoroughly cleaned (including clean sheets, towels, and washed floors) every day. As with the other hotel staff, our room maid was friendly and hard-working.

Meltemi Suites is in a perfect location: The hotel itself is very quiet but if you turn right out of the hotel entrance you'll be on the beach-front with its wide variety of tavernas, bars and restaurants in only 5 minutes; turn left and you'll be at the bus-stop in 5 minutes.

There are only two things we regret from this holiday: not being able to stay longer and not hiring a car (you need your driving licence for car hire). The last buses back to Perissa are between around 8.00pm (from Pyrgos) and 10.00pm (from Fira) and there are so many things you'll want to explore on this beautiful island.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a jacuzzi room - well worth the extra money.

This is a beautiful place. My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks at the start of May, and had a wonderful time. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome - with a little glass of visanto at the reception area - then when we got to the room there was a lovely message congratulating us on our wedding, with a bottle of wine as well.

Our first morning was when we met Athena. I had read about her before we booked, and I have to say she is as warm in person as she appears in reviews. She is always there at breakfast to explain the mornings offerings, and even asks if there is anything special you would like her to make. (she drew the line at black pudding!) She is also on hand for some local info - so please make sure to ask her!

Perissa is at the south end of the island, and the Meltemi Suites are a handy distance to the beach (where the majority of the restaurants are) and the main road (cheaper bars/some restaurants/shops). At the time we went the season was just beginning so it was relatively quiet, but not to the point that it was deserted. Most people seemed to head to Dorians Pub on the main road for cheap drink. Cocktails were 3 euros and beer and wine also cheap. There were a couple of other bars such as Bob's bar and the Meltemi cocktail bar - same kind of price.

Down on the beach there are a lot more restaurants, and the prices do vary a little. We found the best quality ones to be Ntomatini, Noma and Pergola. The others are very similar. And for those of you looking to really relax with better quality cocktails, look no further than Yazz or Tranquilo. Tranquilo is also well suited to vegetarian and vegans, and they have XXL salads!

We took a quad bike round to Kamari, and I have to say I prefer Perissa. Kamari was nice, with a lot of choice, but Perissa was far more laid back. We also took the bus to Fira, but were not particularly impressed. Overpriced and the smell of donkey droppings was quite something!

I would however suggest a trip to Oia. It's stunning. It's the place you see on postcards or on earthpics. Yes it's a bit more expensive, however it is much cleaner and of much better quality. We hired a car for the day and drove around the island before stopping here. We were planning to stay for the sunset and try and go to the main viewpoint, however it was very busy so we managed to find a lovely restaurant that offered the same views. Definitely worth a visit.

However I would have to say I am glad we chose Perissa, and the Meltemi Suites. A great place to stay, and a great base to explore the island.

Room Tip: I have put average for sleep quality, as we found the mattress to be a little springy. However I ma...

We booked a stay in the hotel but were upgraded to the luxury suite. We were greeted by Athena who took care of all our needs and greeted us with a glass of visanto ( wine of santorini).
Lovely clean and spacious rooms.
Excellent breakfast with variety!
Good location and short stroll to the bus stop to take you to fira(thira)
Short walk to perissa beach and restaurants and bars:))

This is a delightful place to stay. My wife and I stayed in September '13 for our honeymoon. We upgraded to a suite with jacuzzi and I'm so glad we did. It did not disappoint. Our four poster bed was a little harsh on the back but that was the only very minor grumble. Athena was so helpful as it states in other reviews. It is a quiet family run hotel where guests also appreciate it's relaxing atmosphere. Just down the road is the seafront lined with Tavernas which cater for all needs. Don't worry about the bins mentioned in earlier reviews - they really are not an issue. Just up the road you must go to Dorians and sample the wide variety of cocktails all at a very reasonable 3 Euro price.

As for Santorini then you must see the sunset. We watched it floating around on a boat in the sea which was unbelieveable. Beware Fira is expensive as it caters for all the cruise ships and trade it gets from daily visitors. It is, however, a must see capital city with a wide variety of shops.

All in all we could not have wished for a better location or Hotel to celebrate our honeymoon. Something we shall remember for the rest of our lives...........

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite.

My fiancé and I state here for 3 nights and it was one of the highlights of our Europe trip! Less than a two minute walk from the beautiful strip of restaurants and bars along perissa beach, a minute the other direction from the bus stop which runs into Thira & Oia. Countless beautiful little bars and shops around. Staff were so friendly and helpful! And our room was amazing. Spacious, clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, private, had our own jacuzzi on our balcony, beautiful pool area, nice breakfast. Couldn't have been more impressed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and definitely benefited from upgrading to a room with a jacuzzi. This is a beautiful boutique hotel which we would highly recommend. It's close to lots of lovely restaurants/cafés by the sea front, Ntomatai and Tranquilo to name just a couple.
Would also recommend the trips to Oia via Santo Wine. Oia is one of the most picturesque places one could visit!
