We stayed at Villa Valvis for two weeks in July 2011, and would recommend the hotel 100%.

We were met on arrival by the friendly Marina, and our room was comfortable and absolutely spotless, and kept that way for all of our stay as it was cleaned and the towels and sheets changed every day. We stayed in a self catering room, and if you are looking to cook a full meal then the facilities will be inadequate, but if like us you want a fridge and to be able to make a coffee and some breakfast in the morning the facilities will suffice.

The pool, sunbeds and the rest of the hotel are kept equally as clean, as the owners take obvious pride in their villa.

We found the location ideal too, with a walk down the lane of about 300 yds to the beach and the strip of good bars and restaurants - Overall a great stay.

Just got back from a 2 week stay in Perissa, Santorini, staying at the Villa Valvis.

The accommodation is excellent, we stayed in a double room which had a seperate kitchenette and shower room, balcony overlooked the pool.

The room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels, to the point of OCD! (cleaner actually zipped up my make-up bag and arranged our glasses in lines in order of size!!)

We were early in the season so the pool was a little cool, but the bar was open every day and we pretty much had the pool to ourselves..

Marina and her partner were extremely helpful and welcoming, and the location was perfect for us: Co-op, cash point and 24-hour bakery just around the corner (chocolate donuts a must!), a smaller, more friendly supermarket even closer, 5 mins from the beach, 2 to the bus stop.

Perfectly situated in staggering distance from the BEST bar in Perissa; Atlas, which has to be experienced! Just watch out for mad Canadian Dave, the owner, who has a tendancy to ply you with Raki!

Also try Tranquilo down on the beach, a beautiful bar with comfy sunbeds and a lovely, different menu.. and Ntomantini restaurant further down the front for fabulous, high quality Greek cuisine, reasonably priced although it looks posh (try 3 or 4 meze dishes between two - the baked feta in honey and sesame, and beetroot salad is great!)

Altogether a great holiday - would definately stay at Villa Valvis again!

Very friendly and helpful owner and staff.
Room is very nice and clean.
Near bus stop, super market (Big Super Market) and 24 hrs bakery.
Worth every penny!
And I strongly recommend to all budget travellers.

It was a little tricky to find but so take directions with you - if you are coming into Perissa on the main road from Fira look out for the 24 hr bakery on the right and aroung 50yards after the bakery there is a road on the right with a car hire shop on the corner Villa Valvis is just down this road on the right. The couple that run the hotel are lovely, they gave us free drinks whilst we were waiting for the room and they allowed us to stay in the room an extra 3 hours on our departure day at no extra cost. The hotel is very clean and the double bed was comfortable, the A/C worked brilliantly and it was in the right place so we didn't get too cold in bed. The shower has no wall bracket so it was a little tricky to wash my hair. On arrival we were a little perplexed as we usually stay in self catering rooms and they usually come equipt with hob, crockery and cutlery etc. this hotel's version of self catering means the room has a fridge. It wasn't a problem though as there is a supermarket just down the road where we picked up some glasses/bowls etc for next to nothing. Also, it's really close to the 24 hour bakery which I have to say is pretty fantastic, so much so we visited everyday. The pool is really lovely, it has a push button jacuzzi and was clean. We hired a car which we couldn't have done without as I don't think I would have liked to stay in Perissa all week and exploring the island was a must for us. Overall, a really nice trip and would definately go back.

Good Points:

I liked the location. Villa Valvis was located next to the best beach on the island, in my opinon. It was within walking distance to the beach, to a delicious and cheap 24-hour bakery, two markets, and numerous beach-front restaurants (of which we HIGHLY recommend Ntomatina). I liked the swimming pool, and the style of the building. I liked the hotel-manager who was always there and answered all of our questions. It was a great price, too! We were able to see the rest of the island via a rented ATV for only 7 Euros a day. It was nice that the hotel had WIFI, but it only worked out by the pool, not in the rooms.

Bad Points:

The bathroom had an odor problem - I think because of the drainage. It wasn't unbearable, but the room always smelled a bit bad because of it. The air conditioning was in a bad location, blowing over the bed as we were sleeping...so we were either too cold, in which case we'd turn it off, and then we'd wake up from being too hot, and have to turn it on again. (better than NO Air Conditioning, though!). There was no telephone in the room. Also, we left our camera on the bed one morning, and discovered it missing after the maid had cleaned the room. We searched around, and asked the manager for help, and found the camera in the pile of sheets ready to be washed - it would have been ruined had we not noticed in time!

Overall:
We would stay there again, but I would probably look into other hotels first before automatically choosing it to see if there was anything comparable at the same price. When we went, there wasn't, though.

We stayed in September during the shoulder season and had mixed feeling about the hotel. It was very inexpensive then and the room with kitchenette was very clean and everything worked which is great for such a budget priced hotel.

We had a very hard time finding the hotel there since there was no street address or phone number or directions to the hotel in the email that came with our hotel reservations. They also don’t seem to have any sort of web site where you can get directions. The bus driver ended up dropping us off nearly a mile from the hotel so we had to search for it while lugging our luggage around. Contrary to the information we had it is not on the main street so there was no way to find it without finding someone who knew where it is.

Here is a clue as to how to find the place if you stay there. Before you go look up the water park that is in that town. The hotel is on the next street over from the water park roughly across from the water park. If you are at the water park there is no way to walk directly to the hotel so you will need to go to the main road then go over a block.

The 24 bakery mentioned in the other review was indeed wonderful and an affordable way to eat.

The mixed feelings were because there were a few negatives.

When we were there the sides and bottom of the pool were more than halfway covered with green algae. I didn’t ask about it so maybe it was just a one time problem or they were getting ready to close the pool for the year. We didn’t really want to use the pool so this wasn’t a big deal except that it made the first impression of the hotel pretty poor.

The other thing that I didn’t like was that they didn’t use mattress pads on the bed so you could see the mattress through the thin sheets that they use. The mattress appeared pretty new and clean but it still felt a bit “yucky”. The thin sheets actually seems to be pretty good quality but they dry the laundry on cloths lines behind the hotel so I think they intentionally buy thin sheets to help them air dry easier.

The hotel is probably only best for someone who is on a tight budget but it was very acceptable if you are expecting a budget hotel.

This is a very good place to stay if you are looking for a cheap place offering resort-like quality at bargain prices. Our little room opened up to one of the most gorgeous pools ever, and the room had a kitchenette. There is a 24 hour bakery next to the bus stop that serves some of the best sweets (make sure to pick some up if you’re catching an early boat out, like we did), as well as a convenience store. Marina, the owner, is very cordial and makes sure your needs are catered to. One drawback is that it’s hard to find; once you get off the bus going towards Perissa Beach, you need to walk down the road next to the ocean for about 15 minutes (at a brisk pace) before turning right down a small dirt road. Walk down about 3 minutes and you’ll see the convenience store on the right; the hotel is directly across.

Oh, and there is a restaurant across from the bus stop that just opened up at the time of this writing; it serves the best mixed meat grill ever. My wife is vegetarian; the owner was conducive to her needs and grilled her vegetables to perfection, away from the meat.
