Just arrived back from our two week holiday at this hotel. Overall we were very pleased with the resort. The guests are a whole mix of nationalities and as always you get some rude people but in the main it was a nice atmosphere, the British were in the minority though. The first week we had 20 in out party as we got married in Lindos on the 25th June, organised by Lindos weddings which was amazing. So our experience was different to our second week as we were then a couple on our own and we did far more site seeing and going out and about. The first week also did not have too many kids around which was nice and kiddy peaceful and the second week you could tell that most countries had broken up for the summer so the pool area was a bit more active and noisy. If you don't bag some beds at dawn though chances are you won't get any, we had to get up early to do this which is a pet hate of mine, some of the beds were kept by some selfish guests who then didn't turn up until mid afternoon, literally...the hotel management should do something about this though. Once the hotel new we were getting married they were very attentive and did some special things for us. Some of the hotel staff are a bit miserable and not like the usual greek happy go lucky types but on the other hand most of the staff were fantastic and lived up to the Greek hospitality and service.
The food was fresh and a huge selection at EVERY meal. The drinks were in the main branded and plenty of water and soft drinks were also on offer as the heat the last two weeks was much higher than average for June. Try the Al la Carte restaurant if you are adults, the staff are lovely and the food a bit more special, the service is also very good here and they are very attentive, personally I don't thinks its right for kids though. The hotel opposite is the sister hotel so you can use their pool and facilities, in contrast this hotel is quiet and plenty of beds around their roof pool, not for kids though. We travelled with Thomas Cook who were in my opinion very flimsy and weak, the two reps we did come across at the airport and the SO CALLED welcome part were disappointingly uninformative not explaining any excursions that they could have sold us, we were just given a few details about the hotel and a leaflet on trips, SO book your own, local buses to Lindos and Rodos are very cheap, and regular as well as a ferry that went from our beach, you must visit both. Taxi to Lindos is around 50 Euros (one way) and to Rodos 15 Euros. Taxis are very easy to use. We also went on a ferry to Symi which was lovely which we picked up in Rodos town. My 20 year old son and a friend came with us and went to Faliraki one evening, even him being a UNI student said it was dreadful so don't worry the hotel is not that near to that resort. One other disappointing thing to mention was that there was only 5 minutes free WIFI for your stay in the hotel, you had to pay a substantial cost to connect otherwise. A tip... use the Budda Bar next door, buy a cheap drink and get free WIFI or when you visit either Rodos or Lindos most if not all bars and tavernas have free WIFI access. COME ON HOTEL CALYPSO GET INTO THE 21st CENTURY!!.
If you visit Lindos or Rhodes Town, go off piste to some side streets for a bar or taverna, they are usually nicer, less busy better value for money and its where the locals eat!!. In Lindos we found one above where the Donkeys are penned which overlooked the castle, bats and town, it was lovely, in Rhodes town we found one near where all the funky drinking places are.
Overall we were happy with the hotel and resort , it was clean and tidy and the rooms were OK. Food was great and staff in the min brilliant. The housekeeping staff were pleasant and we had clean towels every day.The air conditioning was a lottery though if it worked. The animation team and what they presented was pretty random and not our cup of tea so we didn't bother whatching it, i think they thought they were better than they were!. We didn't book an extension to our room on our last day as they wanted 70 Euros so took the courtesy room as we had a very late flight however the room was dirty with everyone else that had used it before us leaving their dirty towels, sand, clothes and sun lotions they didn't want on the floor. Horrible, They should at least check it every hour or so to give it a quick clean. I told the reception but they didn't seem bothered. RHOTELS, look into this!!
However we had a lovely holiday in a nice hotel in anise resort firstly with friends and secondly on our own and an amazing wedding organised by Lindos weddings.
