Mitsis Faliraki Beach Hotel & Spa
Ranked #4 of 70 Hotels in Faliraki
Reviewed 19 November 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for a week with my partner in October 2013 , when we arrived at the hotel at just before midnight we were told it was overbooked so they sent us to their sister hotel down the road which was a brand new 5 star that can only be described as luxurious , shame we didn't get to stay there more than one night.

Anyway back to the faliraki beach, before we arrived I had emailed for a swim up room and wasn't disappointed that we managed to get one , it's a separate pool round the back only accessible from a few ground floor rooms, nobody else was using it so it was like having a private pool, we didn't use the main pools at all but from what we saw they were never full and there were loads of sunbeds available, the pool area was lovely and clean.

there was a pool bar and another beach bar to use through the day that served hot and cold drinks , toasties, cakes and the delicious creperie is a deffo must .

The room was a standard room but it did have air con and a fridge which was restocked every other day and was cleaned daily.

The food was good but was rather random in choice , I'm not really into onion rings and salad for breakfast !! But as it's mainly Germans and Russians I suppose that's who they cater for, there was quite a lot of choice if u like ham and cheese with your salad and onion rings but the omelettes were very good, be warned tho the main lunch and dinner is always pork! We booked into the Italian, Mexican and Asian restaurants and they were absolutely delicious , well worth a try.

The location is the only thing that let it down as it's very run down ( not the hotel ) and most of the buildings are derelict , it's like walking round an abandoned ghost town but if you are after a mainly hotel based holiday you won't be disappointed as the hotel is lovely, I would go back again for a cheap all inclusive as it was well worth the money we paid

I travelled with my husband and son, and over the last twenty five years or so, we have had in excess of twenty all-inclusive holidays, so we do have some points of comparison. We felt that some aspects of the hotel were truly outstanding, but that other bits compromised the experience as a whole. We stayed for October half term, which was the very last week of their season, so that might have had some impact on the resort (which felt badly run down and eerily quiet), but shouldn't really have been allowed to affect the hotel. If I could have given three and a half stars, I would have done, because it was a little better than average, but not sufficiently great enough to be described as 'very good'.

Service
The team of maids, who worked tirelessly, always had a cheerful smile and a friendly 'kalimera'. Special mention must go to the two Georges and Niktarios at the Italian restaurant for the quality of the food and also the service. The two guys at the beach bar were also really helpful. and the Serbian animation guy (Peter?) was also really lovely.

Regrettably, the same cannot be said of the reception staff (with the very notable exception of the big chap who has a beautiful, kind smile). I don't want to mislead: the women on reception do smile when approached, but it feels more of a grimace. I suppose that when you need help with something, you just know the difference between a cold smile that they have been told to use (that never reaches their eyes), and a genuine smile with a warm manner.

In fact, as our holiday went on, we stopped asking reception for help or advice because their barely concealed hostility made us feel like a nuisance, and instead we tried to ask other British holiday-makers. The woman behind the pool bar also had a very bad attitude, as did the waitress at the Mexican. A shame really, because they let the other hard-working, polite staff down.

Food
As with most all-inclusive hotels, the main 'restaurant' is more of a canteen and consequently, the food is mass produced. However, some hotels manage this better than others, and in our opinion, the Faliraki Beach was at the very bottom of that scale.

In particular, the breakfast was about the worst we have experienced. I know that bacon in Greece is never the same as British/Danish bacon, but even so, the bacon that we were faced with was like a fatty dog chew - and a cold one at that! The fried eggs were always undercooked, with the whites still transparent, and often cold too. The bread rolls were hard, and the fruit salad was just an apple salad, with no other fruit in it. The kiwis (served separately) were so under-ripe that I couldn't dig a spoon into them, and the platter was left practically untouched most days, presumably because other guests had the same experience. However, if you like lettuce and cucumber for breakfast, you would have been happy.

Lunch and dinner were little better, and although in theory there was a lot of choice, we felt most of it was inedible. ALL of the meat dishes were fatty and chewy, and the dishes were lukewarm at best. Mass produced - and cheaply produced. The vegetables were all over-cooked and sloppy. Again however, the salad was fresh and plentiful.

But things really changed mid way through our break when we tried out the separate international restaurants, that are the hotel's best kept secret. They are the feather in the cap of this hotel, and for the life of me, I just cannot understand why they aren't signposted and why there is no information provided about them, either by staff or in written information. The hotel would do well to promote these restaurants because they are really lovely. They are situated around the side of the hotel, in a beautiful location overlooking a small pool, and for the first couple of days, we didn't even know they existed.

There is a Sushi restaurant (appropriately staffed with a Japanese chef); an Asian restaurant (which is actually Chinese rather than Asian); a quite superb Italian restaurant; a Greek restaurant; and a Mexican restaurant. As with other bars in the hotel, the drinks are all locally produced, and unfortunately, you can't get a coffee at the end of your meal at any of them, which is a bit disappointing. But aside from these two little niggles, in general, the service and quality of the food was superb - care and effort was evident in both, especially in terms of presentation and flavour.

The public space/facilities and the rooms
When the taxi dropped us off, the hotel was very impressive and beautifully illuminated with coloured lights. The interior decor is fabulous too, and the whole place is kept spotlessly clean. The main lounge is lovely, and the furnishings are all high class and decent.

On the downside, there was only one lift working for the duration of our stay, and even that one seemed so dangerous that we opted not to use it. Okay if it's just one or maybe two adults, but dodgy for children or if you have luggage. The problem is the doors shut very quickly, and the button to hold them open appears not to work. Even brute force seems ineffective and we had two near misses before we stopped using the lift. Scary!

Also, significantly lacking, is a secure storage space for luggage on your day of departure. Instead, guests are told to pile their cases and bags up at the foot of the staircase, which is messy, potentially dangerous and very insecure. There is simply no other option, except to take your suitcases to the pool, or to pay for a late checkout (6pm) for 35euros.

Outside, the sunbeds are tired and many are broken - that needs to be addressed because it makes the pool area look far less attractive than it should. But the landscaping is beautiful, and the pools themselves are very nicely done. The whirly kids slide is great fun for adults too :) The outside bars are decently situated, one with a selection of lovely farm-style ice-creams by one pool, and the other is by the beach. Unfortunately, the beach bar closed before the end of our holiday, which we felt was badly managed. Another thing we noted was that guests without an all-inclusive wristband were served their drinks in glasses, whereas those on all-inclusive were served drinks in plastic cups!

There is little to say about the rooms, other than they were satisfactory. Not the best we've ever had, but far from the worst. Disappointing views - but then the hotel is built at right angles to th sea which seems a shame as if the rooms had frontal sea views, it would have made a real difference. Ask for a pool view rather than a sea view!

Room Tip: If you're ahppy to rely on dodgy lifts (or if you're fit!), a high floor might be okay. Oth...

just back from two weeks there................the hotel itself is excellently laid out, inside and out, plenty of space and facilities, spotlessly clean and peaceful.................rooms well furnished...............great location two minutes off bar street, bus to rhodes town stops right outside (every 20 mins....2 euros fare)..............you simply will not find better staff anywhere................staff on reception,in the restaurant and bars, bellboys and cleaning staff all hard working, polite,friendly,efficient,cheerful................the reception staff absolutely amazing.....................sushi and greek restaurants excellent, italian very good, asian good in parts.......only the mexican was a disappointment (easily cured by giving the chef a bit of proper training in authentic mexican cuisine)........................in the main restaurant the cold buffet was great, the hot buffet average (but enough choice for you not to starve ), but breakfast excellent................aside from a bit of retraining for the mexican chef, the only minor downpoints are that the beach is a little dirty, a small minority of the russian guests are inclined to physically barge into the hot buffet queue , and the coffee could do with up-grading !........but these are minor blips in an otherwise excellent establishment..............full marks to whoever trained the staff....they do you proud............couple of tips for future guests........take your own beach towels, book into the speciality restaurants as often as you can and try the coffee in the pagotomania ice cream parlour on bar street......and join the mitsis friends club before you go...........this gets you fresh fruit and wine in the room on arrival, as well as bath robes.....highly recommended.

Room Tip: back of the hotel swim-in rooms....................and its quiet there as well.

My wife and I are in our late fifties and early sixties and we enjoyed our stay at this hotel very muck. The staff were friendly and helpful with everything very clean and tidy. We went all inclusive for a week, and the food choice offered in the restaurant was plentiful, and tasty - although like many hotels with buffet style it was getting repetitive towards the end of the week. However they do have some smaller international restaurants (Italian, Mexican, Asian, Sushi) with waiter service, which we only became aware of after a few days. They have to be booked at reception the day before between 5.00 pm and 8.00pm, and places can go quickly. We tried the Italian and Mexican and they were great. There are many pools and poolside refreshment areas, a nice lawned area with lots of sunbeds to relax on. There is a large bar off the pool area and they had evening entertainment. Access to the beach was straight through the pool/garden area and you could go on the beach and pop back in for a toasty and drink/coffee at any time.
It was nearing the end of season so Faliraki was quiet in the evening, which suited us. However we did have the impression that the financial problems besetting Greece are having an impact and prices are not cheap (eg Petrol 1.68 euros per litre). The local bus service is good. We went to Rhodes one day 2.20 euros per person each way, and to Lindos another day 4.00 euros per person each way.

Room Tip: rooms odd numbers 51 to 81 had direct ladders down from balcony to small side swimming pol

Our group consisted of 2 couples all in our 20's and we had a great time here. The weather was perfect even though it was mid October.

The hotel looks great and the staff are all really nice and very very hard working, especially Stergos the half Australian who was very funny and the night bar staff and the night pool side bar man (Jager man). We were also had asked for a room with a swim up pool which we were given and were very happy about!

The Animation team are very good and very nice (and maybe slightly overworked as there are only 4!) especially Milano and we had good fun and got involved with all the games and the evening entertainment, although it was a shame that there was no water polo at this time of season.

The food was good and there was always many things to eat even for vegetarians. Personally I thought the meat seemed a bit dry in the main restaurant but it may just be my personal preference or just how they cook meat in Greece, the Gyros however was always yummy and the omelette man was nice and made a good breakfast omelette. The restaurants all served v. nice food, we thought the Mexican was the best but the portions were smaller compared to the other restaurants.

The Hotel is a few minute walk from the end of the main Bar street which is very nice, however being off season everywhere was very quiet. It was also only 26 euros for a taxi to the airport which is very good.

The water park is also near, 5 euros in the taxi and was very fun and very big.

The 'godfather' of the animation team recommended the banana boat safari to us which was also very enjoyable, it was an hour ride out around the coast with 3 stops to jump off and swim in the crystal clear waters, where they supply you with a diving mask so you can see the fishes and everything underwater. This was also only 14 euros each with hotel discount.

The drinks in the bar were local and of decent quality as expected for an all inc. I think maybe the selection of cocktails could be refreshed as the 4 of us never really found one we liked, which doesn't mean they are bad, just not to our tastes, there were definitely lots of other guests drinking them.

The other guests were mainly Eastern European / Russian but were not problem at all and we had good fun playing games with them. It was also mainly families with children and older couples but this also wasn't a problem for us.

We have also been to the Mitsis Rodos Maris hotel and I would say that this hotel is on par with that one, even though it has 1 star rating less!

All in all we had a really good time no concerns or complaints and recommend the Faliraki Beach to others, a big thank you from all of us to you all at the Faliraki Beach Hotel!

Andy (Loser team!)

Room Tip: we asked for a room with with the swim up pool and got one
