Mitsis Faliraki Beach Hotel & Spa
Ranked #3 of 70 Hotels in Faliraki
Reviewed 30 May 2010

My partner and I have just got back from a great week at the Faliraki Beach. We are tanned relaxed and happy! We booked last minute and, having seen many of the other hotels available at a similar price during our transfer, we are quite sure we picked the right one!
It is in the centre of Faliraki which means you have plenty of shops, tavernas and bars nearby, but we were never disturbed at night by noise from the clubs or bars. The hotel is right on a lovely clean sandy beach with clear water. You have to pay for sunbeds on the beach as they don't belong to the hotel - but 7.20 euros for 2 sunbeds, umbrella and table isn't unreasonable we felt.
The bus stop to Rhodes Town is right outside the hotel or just along the beach you can catch the water taxi - we did both and would highly recommmend it!
As for the hotel itself:
The room we were in was basic but spotlessly clean. The balcony was a good size and we enjoyed a night cap there overlooking the sea every night! The beds are firm but comfortable - but be warned the pillows are VERY firm! The air conditioning unit is a big ugly unit - but works a treat and isn't too noisy even on full power - plus you can control it yourself at any time of day or night (unlike in many other hotels we have stayed in!).

The staff are mostly very polite friendly and helpful. The animation team are a bit OTT but do tend to concentrate their efforts on the guests who want to join in all the activities and don't pester you if uou prefer to watch or just chill out.

The food was fine - plenty of it, well presented, tasty, and good selection. Although after a week we were getting a bit fed up with it. The drinks are varied, and decent quality, although the cocktails rarely tasted the same as they don't use measures - and they are often a lot stronger than you imagine! But certainly they couldn't be criticised for watering anything down!
The only thing you had to buy was bottled water as this wasn't available on all inclusive for some reason, but its not expensive so not an issue for us.

The entertainment was interesting - probably best described as good for a laugh after a few drinks - mostly aimed ( we thought) at the German guests who seemed to throw themselves into all and any activity - my personal favourite being the afternoon dance around the pool - you had to see it to believe it!

On the day of our departure they provided a courtesy room and plenty of clean towels. We also were alloowed to continue to eat drink and use all the facilities until we were collected.

All in all this is a decent, comfortable, well run hotel, that offers really good value for money, in an excellent location for getting around the island or simply chilling.

This was a last minute holiday for my husband and I (we are a couple in our mid-thirties) wanting to get a good balance of relaxation and exploration. All in all, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was excellent as a base to explore the island, and as we went off-season, Faliraki and its clean, sandy beaches were a nice pleasant surprise. There was a good mix of English, German, French and Russian at the hotel at the tme.

TRANSFER: we were fortunate as we managed to get a taxi due to the coach being overbooked. The taxi took 25 minutes, the coach arrived nearly 2 hours later (arr: 12:10am) due to the multiple stops, so be warned. On the way back, we were on the coach and it took 1h 40 back to the airport, however it was quite good to see other places on the island that we had not visited.

HOTEL ROOM: we checked in no problem, however they do take your passport on arrival as 'validation' and put them on view behind the reception desk'. I picked ours up the next day without any trouble. Our first room we were given was on the side of the main strip of bars, so we requested a quieter room which they provided us with stratight away. Please note the rooms are basic with no hairdryer, iron or toiletries apart from soap, so take your own. Ours was very clean during our stay and we did have air-con, which gave out a small cool breeze that you could feel when standing over it.

FOOD/DRINK: this was very good for the money. It was varied with salad, cheese, soup, a selection of main courses and desserts. The staff were excellent. Drinks were great. We had no issues here whatsoever. The cappucinos are interesting - black coffee with a dollop of sugar-loaded whipped cream!

FACILITIES: very family-oriented with darts, bingo, karaoke and a theme night.. In the evenings we tended to have dinner then take walks around the beach and have a coffee at one of the few cafes overlooking the bay, or catch up on our reading!

TRIPS: we are explorers so we walked around the local area and covered off 6-8 miles a day. Do take a day trip to Lindos by boat and Rhodes town during your visit (take the bus from outside the hotel - only 2 Euros per person for a single), and have a swim around Antony Quinn (we walked there from the hotel - took approx. 1 hour).

So despite the rooms being basic, the hotel is a great base for exploring the island out of season in our opinion.

Had a lovely time at the Faliraki Beach with my boyfriend. Weather was gorgeous, staff were friendly and helpful. Food was really nice, even had seconds some nights! Everything was included on all inclusive (I know some time hotels have hidden charges for extras), there was laways something available whether it be food or drink. Being right on the beach was such a luxury as made it fair as the bf loves the pool whereas I like the sea! Location was excellent, 2 minutes walk to bars but when you were back at the hotel you couldn't hear a peep. Lovely grounds, by the time we got down to the pool all the sunbeds around the pool were taken but there were always some free on the grass areas. Rooms were really spacious. I travel quite a lot and I feel that this hotel was well worth the money we paid! The only thing I would say is that there are a lot of Germans staying here but personally that didn't bother me as I don't look to stay in a hotel that is like England in the sun! They were pleasant enough and were there to do exactly the same as us - relax! At 21 and 24 years old we were definately one of the youngest couples there by far but that didn't bother me either as I was there to spend time with my bf and I wouldn't have wanted to stay in a club 18-30 style hotel.I always have a read of reviews before booking a hotel and i think that most people who want to write a review generally have something negative to say. If you are quite laid back and looking for a laid back relaxing holiday and you are looking for nice food then head to the Faliraki Beach!

Visited with a friend. Good room, decent size and clean. Nice balcony and great view from our room (101). Television in the room not brilliant but not important. Air conditioning was a bit rubbish!!

Food was interesting! Breakfast was different! Did acquire food poisoning, sure it was from the dog burger or whatever meat it was in the burger!! Another holidaymaker from London also had bad food poisoning, but other than that food was good. Packed lunch provided if you were going out for the day for all inclusive.

Pool was very cold but clean.

Snacks were hot dogs ((rock hard) or crisps!

Alcohol: Very very strong!! 3/4 alcohol 1/4 mixer!!! LOL! Easy to get drunk!!! Dont tap the bar (inside) else the bar maid will get narky with you -- i guessed that is a rude thing to do in Greece?!

Arrived late on arrival, and no food, had to venture up into the main club street which had poor selection of food available at midnight!!

Hired Quad Bikes for about £20 a day, fantastic fun! Highly recommend it! about 13 miles to Rhodes city.... Brilliant riding around the island!! Plenty of places to hire from!!

Very Strange: On booking into the hotel, the reception keep your passport in exchange for your key... your passport is kept in full view of everyone behind the receiption desk. However, a tip... say you need your passport for something (like hiring quad bikes) and they will give you your passport back and then you can just keep it!!

But overall... A good fun holiday and nice hotel. Plenty of sun loungers for us within the hotel grounds, but you have to pay on the beach the other side of the hotel wall!! Beach sports were plentiful! And great fun!!!!!

Location was excellent right on the beach. Hotel needs updating ,.Our room was like something out of the 80s .There was a daily maid service who used to come and hoover the thread bare carpet. The public areas where quite nice and always kept clean. The staff where very nice and helpful in all areas bars and restaurants etc.We had a meal outside by the pool one night .We where bitten to death by mozzies. I had at least 100 bites alone and I wasnt the only one.We did visit other Mitsis hotels while we where in Rhodes of which we enjoyed shared privileges. The other hotels where far superior..We loved Rhodes but we wouldnt go back to the Mitsis Faliraki until it had been updated.

Clean hotel, friendly staff; if you're nice to them they will be nice to you! (and refill your glass without you asking!)
Food was edible and as we were all inclusive we were satisfied with it. Unless you're paying top prices you shouldn't expect 5 star food. You get what you pay for!
Good location, easy to get around on public transport.
Plenty of clubs, bars, restaurants and shops. Although unfortunately we went at the end of season and a lot of places were closed. The Mambo bar is nice and has friendly staff; we had a great night there! (Within walking distant of bars, shops etc, but far enough you shouldn't hear any noise from them).
All in all we had a nice relaxing time and would recommend it.

Advert on the internet said "4 star hotel......." which of course builds up certain expectations, and the hotel website seemed to confirm them. It was therefore a bit of a shock to find out on arrival that what is a 4 star in Greece is a 2 star in the UK!! We we asked we we were told that Greek hotels are graded on their outside/entertainment facilities; not on facilities in the room, lounge and restaurant areas and service levels as well.

We were rather disappointed to be given an old unrefurbished room with minimal facilities - no hairdryer; no teatray; no minibar (fridge provided but empty!); dodgy aircon; and very battered furniture. We managed to borrow a hairdryer from reception; the restaurant manager was very helpful and allowed us to get our early morning tea from the restaurant @ 7.00am each day; when when on the 3rd day the aircon was completely shutdown, enough was enough!! We spoke to reception and the GM who gave us 3 options - 2 were unacceptable but the 3rd was to upgrade to the 3rd floor which had been refurbished and pay an extra 20 euros a night - we did this and our new room was great -everything we hoped for in a UK 4 star - but still no tea tray!
Only 1 English TV channel -World News!! No ITV or BBC 1.

The hotel buildngs are in desparate need of total refurbishment - everything is fairly shabby and run down and maintenance is poor. The pool was great but cold; the gardens nice; and the beach excellent and the sea warm- but you had to pay 7 euros a day to sit on the loungers on the beach!! Entertainment was OK - the animation team were good fun -but it was very much geared to the Germans - the evening theatre performances were always in German

Cleanliness in the hotel was excellent all round. We liked the clean towels every day

Hot water is a bit of a problem - between about 4.30pm and 7.00pm almost everyone goes to their room to shower/change etc. Everyone wants hot water at the same time so often it was tepid or almost cold.... on our last day when coming home we had no hot water mid-morning at all and had to wait nearly 2 hours while the problem was sorted out before we could have a shower.

On a service level the restaurant staff were excellent; bar staff very good; housekeeping good; reception poor and generally unhelpful - totally money grabbing. Everything paid for up-front nothing could be put on room account and paid for on departure as is more usual.

We thought that the food was very nice overall, though we did hear from other people that they thought it was poor in comparison to other All-incs they had been on. Yes, it got a bit samey by the end of 2 weeks. You can't change breakfast much (Full range of choices) so no concerns there; Lunch/dinner salad bar was excellent but you do need to watch out for the new salads that appear each day to ensure freshness - sometimes saw the same ones for too many days in a row!! The hot dishes often weren't hot, only tepid, but quite a good choice each day. I have feeling that the remains of dinner on 1 day, got rejigged as part of lunch the next!! Desserts repetitive, but always nice.
We were there right at the end of the season and in the last week the choices of food got a bit more restricted - I think they were trying to use up everything in the storerooms rather than buy more stuff in - also the number of guests was down to about 100 only.

The local alcoholic drinks in the bar were great - very gluggable! The staff were very polite with us - a smile from us helped alot!! They had a hard job because quite a few people were rude and arrogant and had no reason to be so. We even heard a child swear at a barman - unacceptable.

Didn't like the 5-8 dogs that roamed round the grounds all day every day - seemed very friendly but no good if you are nervouse of them - can't relax on your sun-lounger properly! they weren't strays, some had collars on, but didn't really know where they came from.

We didn't particularly like Rhodes as an island. The ancient town of Lindos was lovely; Rhodes City quite nice; Falaraki - DREADFUL!! Large parts of the town are abandoned and derelict. Nothing there except tourist shops/bars/restaurants - nothing genuinely Greek/Turkish. Its saving grace was the beach - lovely - and one of the best on the island we heard from others. Although the hotel needs refurbishment, in comparison to the rest of Falaraki it was a pleasant oasis. Rubbish is a big problem almost everywhere especially in rural areas and alongside roads. Many abandoned building sites; fly-tipping dreadful. Seems little pride in maintaining anything - everything seems unfinished or falling apart including the private houses

Take everything you need with you - very expensive here. A 250g packet of pistachios was 12 euros - nearly £12..!!! Suntan lotion very pricey too!

The hotel had an informal dress code in the evening - requesting gents to wear long trousers - no shorts and T-shirts etc. Most people, including us, dressed up a bit in the evenings, even if it was just jeans and a proper shirt. Shame on those that couldn't be bothered - disrespectful to the hotel, and your fellow guests.

Mitsis Hotels have only owned the hotel for a short time and apparently are refurbishing it - like our new room - but it will take 3 years to complete........

Despite everything - we did enjoy our 2 weeks - sun, sea, sand and.........we had a good rest which is what we came for.
