“Great Place to Stay!!”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

My wife and I stayed at the family run Rodos Sun for a week at the begging of August. We are a young couple that have been traveling the Greek Islands for over a month. I can easily say that the Rodos Sun was the best place we stayed during the entire trip (1st out of 8 hotels).

The room was clean, spacious and basic. The room was a bigger to other places we had stayed and also had a balcony area.

It was really nice to be in a comfortable environment which is so easy to socialise with other guests at the hotel either by the pool or by the bar in the evenings. Nick and Alexia were our tour advisors for Rhodes recommending some amazing places to eat and visit.

The whole family made us feel very welcome. A big big thank you to Nick, Alexia, Myra and George.

I have no hesitation recommending Rodos Sun for anyone traveling to Rhodes. We will be back again.

Me and my boyfriend (both mid 20's) stayed here 26th July -2nd August 2014. We arrived late and were given a room promptly and then a free map and Nick told us where everything was, the bar strip, beach, supermarkets and bus stops to Rhodes and Lindos. The owners and other employees were very welcoming and always chatty and asking how you were getting on. Nick made the effort to remember our names even though we didn't hang out in the bar much and didn't attend the BBQ as we preferred to spend our time out and about together.

The rooms are basic and just what you need a hob to cook but we didn't use it. A fridge to fill with water and some basic cutlery, pans, plates and glasses. Only thing we missed were bowls for cereal. We had a lovely view of Faliraki town and the sea on the third floor. The best thing is the hotel is nice and quiet but a ten minute walk and your in the bar strip with lots of busy bars and good touristy shops. Supermarkets are just a 5 minute walk. Called Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrions which we thought was funny. They have all the essentials. Definitely pay for air con! Only €42 for the week, worth every penny in July!

The pool is just the right size and enough sun loungers for everyone, we never missed out even if we didn't get to the pool till the afternoon. You can sit and eat meals by the pool which is lovely and there is free wifi in the bar area which is good for a Facebook fix!

We haven't been self catering or to a small hotel before but after this we would go to one again as new really enjoyed our stay and it was nice staying somewhere a bit more personal where you can meet the owners.

The beach is at the bottom of the bar strip and I recommend going out on a peddlo. We really enjoyed this, the one we used was €20 for an hour or €15 for half an hour, as it was so hot out we just did half an hour which was enough. I also recommend going on the boat to Rhodes. I think this was €12 and you get it form the port at the end of the beach. It was a fun journey there, more fun than a bus. You can get a return ticket for a small amount more but we got a bus back as the boats stop earlier. However we ended up getting a bit lost in Rhodes so if we went again we would book a thomson tour I think. The best bit to see in Rhodes is old town which we did see and we had a Greek platter which was delicious!

The restaurants I recommend are Manolos tavern which Nick recommended to us, try the octopus if you go on a Saturday as their menu changes daily. Go early though as it is very popular and often full, or you can reserve a table. Also the Opera restaurant it is of to the left of bar strip and is open roof and is a wonderful place to eat and see the stars. Our local lunch and drink bar became the Jamaican bar which is reasonably priced and has well known ciders, koppaberg and brothers and also beers and some tasty Greek beers, my boyfriend really liked their local beer Mythos.

Anyway we recommend this hotel highly for a lovely relaxing stay or a party holiday if that's your taste as the bars were busy and we saw pub crawls are available.

Husband and myself Stayed here with 3 children (14,10,6) and was fantastic
Got there around 11pm and nik was great . Gave us a choice of rooms overlooking the pool .. And also made kids pizza n chips .
Rooms were nice and clean could not fault them. Air con def recommended . Nik George Myra and alexia are fantastic very friendly and warm family . There are plenty of sunbeds for everyone and the small pool is great for cooling off . The first week of our holiday we was the only ones in the pool !!!
The beach is around 10 minute walk where sunbeds are 4 euros each with parasol .
The town is either 5 min taxi drive costing 5 euros or around 20 min stroll.
When was time to leave it was very emotional with the the family as they were so nice and friendly and we got attached .
All in all had a fab time wud def recommend to anyone and wud most def go back . Xx

Me and my sister stayed here for a week from 26th July- 2nd August. We were a bit hesitant with what to expect before arriving but isn't everyone?! We read all the reviews and the place sounded lovely and perfect for what we were looking for and this was confirmed as soon as we walked in! We arrived in the early hours of the morning and were welcomed by Nick, he let us choose our room which was great and explained everything we needed to know. It's a great hotel for both young people and families and is in perfect location to the strip and all the bars with just a 10 minute walk. The rooms are basic but very clean and the maids came in every other day with fresh towels and bedding. The shower was a bit odd as didn't even have a shower curtain, it was more like a wet room but that didn't bother us at all as the floor soon dried. Air con is a definite and only costs 6 euros per day. Food and drinks at the bar are reasonably priced and is very nice with cocktails being 2 for 6euros!! On a Monday night is the BBQ, this is a must! It's the best night to get to know everyone else, you play killer pool and card bingo then Nick takes everyone out into town for a night out. The pool is great and plenty of sunbeds for everyone.
Overall, we had a lovely holiday and felt very welcomed by nick and his family and we hope to return soon.

Room Tip: We had room 108 on the ground floor, lovely with a pool view!!

The Rodos Sun to me and my family was well overrated. Check in was a joke with the owner George telling us our rooms were not ready and having us sit in reception/bar for over an hour waiting for our rooms.

The rooms themselves were very basic at best. The bathroom was a nightmare especially at shower time, there is no bath which was not a problem TBH. But having a shower tray with no shower cubicle was, it made shower time into an ensuite swimming pool! Also the shower head was blocked up with only half the jet holes working, but when showering in cold water it did help! As for toilet rolls you get one when you arrive and are expected to buy your own, which I found ridiculous when staying in a hotel.

Air conditioning is available at a costly €6 per day unlike other hotels which is free, but trust me you do need it especially in 40c+ plus heat. The beds are ok but with only one flat pillow not the best for sleeping on especially with a neck problem. Maid service was twice in a week not enough in my opinion especially with how many towels you have to use to mop the floor after showering.

The bar area was very very awkward unless you was in the "click". Everybody states in reviews how friendly the owners were, and yeah I believe they are provided you sit and drink day and night there. We like to eat out and drink out but finish the night in the hotel bar where we found it very clicky so that stopped pretty quickly. As a previous review says if you don't goto the Monday night BBQ you are treated like "peasants" is bang on the money. We didn't go due to chicken being the main meat which I don't like so after that you guessed it we were "peasants" haha. Not that we could have given a toss, but on the last day we bought breakfast at the hotel which was a joke. A nice big bread cake with no butter, a rock hard egg with one sausage cut in half for €3 the robbing gits. So if your staying there goto the BBQ it's less hassle haha.

The pool area was ok but the pool was quite small for the amount of guests staying here. But more important I found it to resemble that of an 18-30 club hotel not that of a family hotel. Saying that the youngsters were pretty well behaved as we enjoy pranks and high jinks as they were playing on each other. Saying that our children are 15 and 16 so were fine with it, but in my opinion not for young children especially in the summer months.

Faliraki is a brilliant resort and we will be returning for the fourth year running next year, but back to the Orion Hotel...
