This boutique hotel close to everything, has lovely, charming rooms and a wonderful spa-like outdoor garden. The family provides excellent service and goes over and above to make your experience with them outstanding! Our stay was marvelous! Denver, CO USA

Room Tip: Although they do not have a restaurant, a delicious breakfast is served in the garden every morning...

We stayed at Spirits for a total of 4 nights on two occasions a week or so apart and found the ambience and service very much to our liking.

This is a beautiful spot from which to explore the busy Old City of Rhodes in the knowledge that a peaceful and relaxing return awaits. The room was fabulous and breakfast was excellent.

Nothing is too much trouble for Alex or Duncan and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for our wedding night. It was absolutely amazing. We stayed in the pasha suite which was eye watering beautiful. The service from Alex was fantastic. The garden area at night was incredible and the room was full of interesting artefacts as well as an amazing Turkish Hannam.

We will be returning very very soon.

Our 2 night stay at the Spirit of the Knights Boutique in early September was a wonderful experience. This remarkable conversion of a 14th century building brings comfort, luxury and genuine friendly hospitality to an ancient part of the Old Town of Rhodes.
The cobbled streets outside evoke memories of an era long gone and even the atmosphere of the shaded courtyard where we had breakfast each morning or sat to have a pre-dinner evening drink, seemed but a short step away from when and where the knights and crusaders would have stood on the same ground to plan their next campaign. For us our plans were a bit easier, we were planning which historical building to visit, where to eat, where to shop and when we could return to sleep in the comfortable bed. Our room used to be the chapel, so one could say we ‘slept on Holy ground’!! If there were any ghosts they were friendly and didn’t intrude on our peaceful slumbers and hopefully they rest peacefully knowing that their history lives on in such a beautiful setting.
Our thanks to Alex and his family for the warm welcome, the helpful advice, the extensive variety of the freshly prepared breakfasts, which include the largest croissants ever made (!), the morning cuppa tea and most importantly the vision that they all had to renovate such a charming property.
We highly recommend this place and would hope to return one day.

Room Tip: I'm sure they all have their own individual character and we were more than satisfied with the K...

Spirits of the Knights is an excellent hotel, worthy of its very positive reviews. The owner offered to come and meet us, but we decided to find the place ourselves, and found it relatively easy (I had printed a map).

The service is outstanding, as is the breakfast and the facilities. Alex, the owner, is very welcoming and hospitable.

It is an oasis in the otherwise very touristic city, close enough to the tourist sites (2 minutes from restaurants) but far enough so that it is very quit at night. The garden offers shade and comfort.

The archeologic museum is worth a visit - as it consists of a range of very interesting and historic buildings and a large garden.

Room Tip: I think that all rooms are great, the smallest room is beautiful as is the largest room, and the lat...

I should start by saying that this is one of my favourite hotels in the world.

The owners of the hotel have been part of a broader movement pioneering high quality accommodation in the world heritage listed old town of Rhodes. What they have done is a stellar example of this new "style" which is sweeping Rhodes, making it one of the best destinations in the world.

For those of you who do not know, the old town of Rhodes was the home of the Knights of St John after their abandonment of Acre and Cyprus after the fall of Outremer. The Knights, who were one of the two main crusader religious orders with the Knights Templar (before the Templars were disbanded) fortified the old town of Rhodes. For over 200 years, the Knights used Rhodes as a base to continue to promote crusading interests (and often their own) in the region. The Knights eventually lost Rhodes in the second seige of Rhodes, and established themselves in Malta. The old town was then progressively ruled by the Ottomans, the Italians, and then it was restored to Greece after WWII.

The old town of Rhodes is now the largest maintained medieval town in Europe, and in terms of these styles of architecture, the world. It presently has 6000 inhabitants, but much like Dubrovnik in Croatia (or in terms of further afield world heritage listed towns, Luang Prabang in Laos, Asia) it is being restored to facilitate high end boutique tourism. This is where the Spirit of the Knights (SOTK) come in.

The SOTK is a family run operation. This sentence, however, may not reflect the full extent of this family’s expertise. It is a family who have extensive awareness of what services need to be provided in a luxury hotel of this price tag. The manager, Alex, has an in depth knowledge of the surrounding old town, and in particular an excellent knowledge of local restaurants and activities. The original creative energy for the project comes from Felicity, who has lovingly and piece by piece masterfully restored the hotel, to its present luxury. This includes marble fittings, Italian and Greek paintwork, hand-made glass lighting, and of course its trademark Knight's chandeliers, which add both style and atmosphere.

I would be remiss, if I did not make a special note about the stone heaters which the hotel uses. The stone, which matches the stone of the old town, is full of electrical filaments which heat the stone. The heaters are an exceptional match for the hotel. It may seem like a strange thing to commit a paragraph to, but I suggest you go and see them yourselves.

The hotel, which comprises 6 rooms which are all specially designed in different ways, is an exceptional example of what accommodation in the old town of Rhodes should be. There are other examples of hotels in the old town doing it this well and those hotels should also be recognised as being just as excellent (and will be in subsequent reviews). However, there is no doubt that the SOTK is a special place that anyone who has a chance to stay at, should stay at. They should do so without any hesitation.

The SOTK serves good quality breakfasts, such as Greek yogurt, fruit, toast and coffee. It also has very attentive staff over night and in the early hours of the morning. A special mention needs to be given to this, as I had to rely on this several times when I had work coming in from Asia at 3:00am. The hotel, at this time, functions excellently. I was met with considerable help and support, given that it was between midnight and dawn.

All in all, I emphatically recommend this hotel and the old town of Rhodes generally to any potential guest. If you are looking for stylish luxury, in the "spirit" of the knights, then you should do yourself a favour and stay here.

Room Tip: Each room is based on a different style, such as the Rhodes suite, the Pasha suite, the Crusader sui...

When first picked up from the old town and taken into the corridors, and if you don't have experience in Greek Islands, you wonder where the hell you're going...
You end up in a great setup with the most pleasant family ran business right in the center of the old town.
Alex (day shift) will help you just about with anything you need. Restaurants, beaches, night life, down to getting you hairgel if you run out!
Duncan (night shift) will tolerate you after a heavy night of drinking and actually will go and get you from the middle of town because you were too pissed to find your way back :-D
Rooms are good but I've seen better considering I live in Dubai and the standards there are pretty much unbeatable.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience and what's really unbeatable about this boutique hotel, are the people behind it and their attention to details.
