“A comfy place in medieval Rodos (Rhodes)”
Reviewed 7 June 2013

If you are coming to Rodos for its medieval history, the Olympos offers a comfy place to sleep. Stepping into the brightly decorated courtyard, the lobby and Maria's kitchen are just inside and rooms are either along a hallway or upstairs. Our room was en suite, with a back door out to the garden. On quiet St. Fanourius street in Old Town Rodos, this small hotel is convenient for visits to the Grand Master's Palace, the Archaeological Museum, and for strolls along the Knight's Way where the ghosts of those brave fellows are all around. Socratus street, lined with abundant shops, is easily reached as are dozens of pleasant cafes tucked in plazas all over the town. George and Maria are wonderful hosts and made our stay quite pleasant.

We booked a few weeks ahead for 2 nights and were allocated a very small room with double bed, fridge, kettle, and ensuite shower room with sink and toilet. The room was painted a hideous bright orange and had an extremely tiny window overlooking a small enclosed rubble courtyard. Air conditioning was an extra 5 Euros per night, which I thought was rather a lot considering we were paying 45 euro's per night without breakfast. We had no access to the garden, which was a real shame, as we could have done with somewhere to relax in the afternoon from all the walking and sightseeing. Good points was the shower... it looked basic but worked very well, and the atmospheric location in the heart of the medieval old town. Fortunately we had small wheely cases, anything larger would have been a real impossibility to drag along the extremely cobbled back streets which have no access by taxi.
Oh yes, and there were a few little ants in the room - not a major problem, but we were conscious of not leaving any food or crumbs around to encourage that.

Stayed for 4 nights and was given a room with private bath, refrigerator and GREAT A/C that opened onto the pension's garden. I put the thick blanket from the closet on top of the firm mattress (under the sheet) and we slept great. The Greek yogurt for breakfast was yummy! The owners are very nice, speak just enough English to make the stay interesting. We left our bags with them after checkout on our last day since our ferry didn't leave until midnight, no problem. The owner George volunteered to give us a ride to the ferry, for which we tipped him generously. We ate dinner one night at Marco Polo, just a few steps away down the alley, and highly recommend that place!

We stayed in this pension for about three days after moving from another pension across the street, which was less than satisfactory. We got lured into this pension, after the owner's daughter helped us in her jewerly store. We were traveling with my mom, grandmother, a family friend and me (age 14), and had to rent two rooms. The overall size of the rooms were adequate enough for two people. The room featured two beds, a TV, dresser and bathroom. The bathroom included a toilet, sink and shower. This bathroom, was small but so are all the other ones in Europe. The only complaint that we would have is that the breakfast, which consisted of orange juice, yogurt, toast, jam and coffee, was rather expensive. Other than that, the overall stay was great, and also the people were very nice at the pension. They all tried to give us a warm stay and make sure that we came back happy. If we were in Rhodes again, we would definitely go back to the Pension Olympos.

Hidden away in the streets of the old town, this pension was relaxed, friendly and quiet.
George (the owner) offers pick ups/drop offs from the airport (charges the same as the official taxi rate). This is a bonus, as trying to locate the tucked away pension late at night I am sure is difficult by yourself.
The small fridge and kettle in the room was a good touch. My wife appreciated the hairdryer. Breakfast was extra but a good way to start the day.
The pension is centrally located to many restuarants, the Place of the Grand Master, the City Walls and the harbour, but is quiet.
It was no problem to leave a bag for a couple of days as we were returning to the pension after trips to Symi and Lindos - see other reviews.

We stayed 4 nights in this pension. It's very clean, very nice. The owner, George, is very friendly and it called us a taxi 50 m away from the pension each time we wanted a cab. If we were to call the taxi, the driver would just tell us they are not allowed to enter the old city.
When George talked to them they knew how to do it. He was so kind he was considering taking me to the airport at 5am in the morning.
I made friends with them and will definitely stay with them next time I visit Rhodes. I plan to do that and to visit Karpathos too. George told me to call and have him arrange for a room in karpathos as well, since he has family there.
Their daughters have the shops across the street. One of them, Irene, has the most unique jewlery you'll find in the old city. Bottom line they are very friendly people and kow how to treat their customers. They have lived in Germany for 21 years and they speak better german than English but still....

The new town and marina are only about 10 mins walk away but the real secret to this lovely pension is that it's right in the middle of the old town and just a stones throw from the main square. We stayed for 3 days and during this time the place was kept very clean and lovely with little touches like flowers making it very homely and nice.
