“Almost perfect”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

After much searching for the perfect holiday we choose to stay at the Elite Suites. We were looking for some where private where we could spend our days sun bathing by our own private pool, unfortunately when we got there we were disappointed that our sunbathing deck didn't actually get and sun at all, but luckily this was the only downfall to our stay.
We stayed on the 5th floor which had the most amazing sea views. If I was to return I would ask for the 4th floor as the 5th floor has the suites without pools directly above, we were unfortunate enough to get woken up a few mornings by the people above having what sounded like a furniture moving party. I wouldn't want to stay in any of the lower levels as they are so close to the main road.
The staff are what made this hotel so special, their attention to detail was superb, they were always friendly and could not do enough for you, particularly the manager Leon.
Breakfast was great, lots of choice on the buffet and the option to order fresh eggs, omelettes ect. We ate at the Varkarola Taverna every night except one, this was because the food, service and value for money were exceptional, they also had a great selection of wines and champagne.

We were on a bed and breakfast package, we could upgrade to half board at a cost of 35€ per person per day but after the fist day we worked out that dinner didn't cost as much as that and you wouldn't be able to spend that much at lunch so it wasn't worth the upgrade.
The room service menu and mini bar were again very reasonably priced and a good selection.
The suite we stayed in was lovely and spotlessly clean, nicely furnished too, the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, we really appreciated the gifts left in our room on a daily basis from cakes to olive oil.
I also celebrated my birthday whilst staying here the hotel left me a bottle of champagne and even brought me a birthday cake out at dinner which was very thoughtful of them.

We went down to the beach but came straight back again as the beach is less than desirable although the sea was lovely and warm. We spent most our days by the main pool which was very nice, we didn't really like the black pool for the Elite suite guests and spa users.
The only place to get an after dinner drink was the bar in the 11th floor, this was nice but I really feel the Elite Suites should have a bar of its own exclusive to its guests.
We went in to old Rhodes town for one of the days, this place is defiantly worth a visit and only cost 10€ to get to by taxi.
We had a night flight on the way home and expected as we arrived late on the first day we would be able to stay in our room on the last day, but unfortunately we had to move to a less then 5* quality room in the main hotel, but guess this was better then nothing.
We had such a lovely holiday and like I said this place is almost perfect but I guess I expected perfect when you pay as much as you do to stay here.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the 4th floor.

We chose the Elite Suites as we like spacious holiday accommodation and these had the added bonus of a private pool and decking area. The rooms are faultless; lovely, comfortable bed, quality furniture, fab bathroom and all beautifully maintained and very clean. Also lots of thoughtful touches are included - Bulgari toiletries, robes and slippers, plenty of wardrobe space, (and enough hangers!) the option for a daily newspaper, (if you want to depress yourself whilst on holiday...) and small, in-room treats in the room every day.
It's worth noting that not all the suites have a sea view. We had booked a sea view room, but because of the position of our room, on the third level of the suites, the sea was in fact only visible as a small blue triangle from one corner of the deck. We also felt that as the main path to and from the pools, restaurants etc. went directly past our room, we didn't have much privacy.
Suites on the lower levels are also nearer the busy road at the front of the hotel, so traffic noise is inevitable.
Breakfast for Elite Suite guests is in it's own, relatively small, restaurant. This has the standard breakfast buffet and it's possible to order hot food, such as poached eggs or omelette, from the waiters. However, the system can be a bit chaotic, as the order is taken as you're seated at a table and the food can turn up anytime from 5 minutes to half an hour later! There is no outside seating for breakfast, which is a shame as there is a lovely outside terrace adjacent to this restaurant.
The hotel has a good gym and spa area which is well worth a visit. The pool area for the Elite Suites is at the back of the spa. The pool itself is lovely but the area it's in is a bit sad and could do with a bit of attention. There didn't appear to be any regular bar service here either as on only one occasion during our stay did we see a waitress asking if anyone wanted to order drinks.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and found a good selection of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. Rhodes town is also easily reached either by bus, from right outside the hotel, or, (at time of writing,) about 10 Euros in a taxi.
In summary, this is a nice hotel with good facilities but "could do better" in some areas

Room Tip: Suites on levels 2 or 4 are in the best positions

Elite Suites is the luxury section of the Amathus and shares all the hotel facilities plus a few extras. They are set away from the main building in 6 blocks rising up from block 1 at garden level. There is much to enjoy and appreciate in the luxury of the Elite Suites set up.
The accommodation is exceptional - all the rooms are the same -spacious, stylish & superbly equipped. All have private decks and other than level 6,private pools, but they are north facing and in October are constantly in the shade, so with few exceptions, are rarely used. A fact worth knowing if you are planning an early or late visit.
We opted for a half board basis and the food at both breakfast and dinner in the Varkarola restaurant was excellent - wide choice, well cooked, attractively presented and outstanding service.
The one factor that raises Elite Suites from extremely good to excellent is the staff. At all levels in every section everyone was constantly friendly, unfailingly polite and totally effecient . The Varkarola staff were simply outstanding, perhaps the best we have experienced anywhere.

Inevitably there are a few minor weaknesses. The only place for a pre- (or post ) dinner drink was the bar on the 11th floor of the main hotel, quite a trek from our suite in block 5 and nearly as far back to the restaurant.
We thought the shingle beach was a bit scuffy (cigarette ends ) and Ixia itself had little appeal, but Rhodes was only 10 minutes bus / taxi ride away and was much more interesting and lively.
Road noise is a bit intrusive from 7am to 11pm (affects blocks 1 & 2 and the gardens and beach ) and the hotel machinery and equipment situate behind blocks 5 & 6 operates 24 hours a day and for these blocks becomes obvious and droning during the still of the night.
The one big problem - feral cats outside the main hotel and in the adult pool area. If you like cats OK, otherwise be warned .

These relatively minor points should not detract from the overall quality, luxury and service to be experienced and totally enjoyed at the Elite Suites.

Room Tip: For the best combination of views and less noise distraction, blocks 3 and 4 are the best

We have just returned from a week at the Elite Suites. All the staff without exception are excellent, they made our stay memorable. Food in the a la carte restaurant was superb. A special mention must go to Leonidas the manager at the suites. A very pleasant young man who was always smiling and willing to help.

Room Tip: Room 141, larger deck area than most.

First time to Greece, always avoided as thought a little backward. The Elite suites were just as we hoped. Total luxury and the service was superb. Totally 5 star!! We only went for one week but so wished we had had longer. We were upgraded to a suite with pool, which we enjoyed immensely. Every day little sweets/goodies would be left in our room. The al-a-carte restaurant was exquisite, very fine dining and lots of choice. If you like the finer things in life you will love this accommodation. The main hotel is of a very different standard, quite different! We would definitely return to the Elite suites.

We said in the Elite suit with a pool on the balcony for our honeymoon and the suit was amazing. The staff on the Elite suit side of the hotel were brilliant, very helpful.
The reception staff did not realise we were on honeymoon when we checked in at 3am so arranged for us to have breakfast brought to our room as a gift. Every day there was either sweets or water left in our room and every night there was sweets left on our pillows.

The towels and beach towels were changed every day. The restaurant food was so yummy and the staff were brilliant.

I would recommend the suit very highly and recommend a visit to the hotel

Room Tip: Elite suit with balcony and pool

We had a fantastic/superb honeymoon in the Elite suites at the end of september 2013. The room with private pool & garden was absolutely perfect & there were no negative points we could find during our stay. Luxury does not come close to describing the quality of our accommodation. Every little detail was catered for & the staff were attentative, friendly & extremely helpful on all occasions. The food was equally great. The Location was good as its only a short journey from the airport. Even though the main road was close to the hotel & you could see planes coming in to land, the noise was barely noticeable. Several decent restaurants & shops also lined the road down from the hotel. Only the pebble beach was perhaps not to our taste as the sea was not necessarily calm, but more often had a swell. This did not bother us as every other aspect of our stay was utopia.

Room Tip: For more privacy the garden room with private pool was perfect.
