Our family of 5 (2 girls aged 13 and 18 and son, 17) stayed in the Jasmine Suite for 4 nights from Aug 19-23, 2011. We were initially looking for a place in Old Rhodes, as that area had been recommended to us, but we couldn't find anything suitable or within our already increased budget. Our daughter then came into contact with the professional Gudrun, who assists with online bookings for Rodos Niohori. I can't say enough about Gudrun. We are very picky about accommodations and ask lots of questions, and poor Gudrun responded to a long string of our emails, always answering them all promptly, fully, honestly, and notably with our best interests in mind.
Our family always likes to stay together in one unit, not to mention the fact that had we booked 2 suites, the cost would've been prohibitive for us, so although the max. # of occupants for Jasmine (which is the largest of the 3 units) was 4, we asked her if she could ask the owner to add an extra bed and allow all 5 of us in there. The owners kindly agreed to do so, and we paid a nominal fee for the extra bed/person.
Rodos Niohori was extremely easy to find as it is located just behind a well-known restaurant in New Rhodes. It is an old building that was completely restored and thoughtfully redesigned by a husband and wife team, and they successfully maintained the building's character. As soon as we arrived on the doorstep and knocked, Joanna, one of the two friendly and outgoing women who manage and run the hotel came out, exclaimed that she had been concerned that something had happened to us as we were more than 1 hr late. In fact, Gudrun, who was on holidays at that time, had also phoned to ensure that we'd arrived and also was alarmed by our late arrival. We're not used to the concern of hotel staff about our whereabouts!
Joanna is so warm, comforting and personable. She helped us in with our bags and we could see a beautiful patterned Rodos-type rock floor foyer with a terribly high ceiling; our Jasmine suite was on the left and the small reception office on the right. Joanna quickly ushered us through our private entrance and into the suite. It was beautiful, bright and airy! Well-appointed furnishings, lovely moulding and wood detailing, high ceilings, an LCD TV, a lounger, sofa bed, a mini fridge, tea service, juicy nectarines in a basket, a lovely and compact bathroom, and stairs leading to a loft greeted us. Our 2 girls slept on the sofa bed; our 6 ft son slept on the lounger which was alright as a bed and he slept OK, but we loved the place otherwise and were just grateful the owners let us stay together in Jasmine.
The upstairs is the master bedroom suite and it's gorgeous! Again, bright and spacious with 2 big windows. There's a lovely dresser/desk with a safe and a large LCD TV and an upholstered armchair. The queen-size bed was very comfortable. There's a little bar area and door that then leads out to our private deck that overlooked the side street on which the hotel is situated, a cute white with blue-trimmed apartment, and a tiny parking area. This deck also overlooks the hotel foyer. We never had time to enjoy this pretty and sun-drenched area, but I did hang my laundry out there!
From the open master bedroom a step up and through a beautiful wooden door was the dressing area, also bright with a window, open closets and drawers, and a make-up area. Note that the master bedroom, downstairs, and this dressing area each had its own air conditioning, remotely controlled, and it was fabulously comfortable.
Through the dressing room you then enter the beautiful and stunning bathroom which is extremely spacious, has 2 sinks, widely spaced apart, and a long, double shower with gorgeous mini tiles. There is a window and toilet. My only complaint for the entire suite was that this bathroom didn't have A/C so it go very hot sometimes. So I'd then rush into the adjoining dressing room. That's a small complaint for an otherwise flawless hotel! Unfortunately, our bathroom was so beautiful and inviting that all 3 of our kids chose to use it. We are a very close family so that was ok. The showers are perfect for newlyweds and romantics and it does have a lock, which my husband and I used on 1 occasion!
Both Joanna and her cohort, Yohanna, were exceptionally helpful, friendly and kind. We so enjoyed meeting them and learning about how each of them came to live on Rodos. Joanna encouraged us to rent a car, proceeded to do so for us, and went to the trouble of handwriting a 3 day driving itinerary for us with suggested stops, restaurants, beaches, etc.
Breakfast is complimentary and outstanding with incredible service, smiles and laughter galore. Every day we'd tell Joanna or Yohanna (only 1 of them work on any given day) approximately what time we'd like breakfast the next morning, and we'd enter the adjacent, private courtyard that is again beautifully appointed with the same lovely rock-mosaic designs on the floor, nice outdoor furniture, decorations, potted shrubs and plants…. We greatly anticipated our breakfasts, which were cooked and served graciously by Joanna and Yohanna. Honestly, we LOVED the breakfasts which were varied, but included the light Greek yoghurt that we grew to love (and have been unable to locate in Vancouver) with local honey and homemade preserves, savoury and sweet pastries, bread, eggs cooked to your specifications, cheese, fruits, olives, tomatoes…. There was also coffee, lattes, tea, hot chocolate, chocolate milk, freshly squeezed orange juice, and water. We were always delightfully satisfied with and full from our meals. You guys spoiled us silly, but we so enjoyed and appreciated it!
The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Karras (I apologize, I can't remember your names), each made the effort, independently, to come greet us. Mrs. Karras came to say hello when we were at breakfast one morning and kindly gifted us with some figs from her summer home. The day we were departing, Mr. Karras rushed over just as we were saying our goodbyes to Joanna. There is such a personal touch to this hotel and we are people are really value this. Thank you for the courtesy you extended to us, and again, thank you for allowing our family to stay together in your Jasmine Suite. That truly enhanced our vacation.
Rodos Niohori is within walking distance to Old Town (it took us about 20 minutes to walk there, but it's a pleasant and safe walk, past lots of stores, restaurants, cafes, etc. There are no designated parking spaces, so sometimes it took my husband a long time before he found street parking. It was easy driving out of New Town to Lindos (which we loved) and anywhere else. Lots of road signs to major destinations/attractions.
We loved Rodos Niohori and would recommend it unequivocally to friends. It is an exceptional boutique hotel (it only has 3 suites in total) that will exceed your expectations in every way. The staff and owners have done a remarkable job with this new hotel and their caring, warm and professional nature will surely make it a big success. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for teaching us about Rodos and Greek culture, and for your wonderful service, and your incredible personalities. You've enriched our trip and our lives. I wrote you a card that has all our contact info and hope that our paths will cross again (whether we return to Lindos or you come to Vancouver!).
