Sheraton Rhodes Resort

Reviewed 19 August 2014

Having visited Rhodes three times previously, we booked the Sheraton only because our usual hotel was full (we'd left it late).
It was a more expensive hotel than we'd usually pick, but our hands were somewhat tied, due to the relatively short notice, so we bit the bullet and booked, thinking that at least it was well known brand name, so we were hopeful we wouldn't be disappointed.
As soon as we arrived, we realised what a fantastic decision we'd made, the reception is spectacular, immaculately clean, and very welcoming. The staff were very friendly, knowledgable and were happy to help with whatever queries we had throughout our stay.
Our room was on the 9th floor, with a sea view, and I must say, we had a beautiful view from our balcony, and we regularly sat there with a glass of wine, watching the sun set......just lovely.
The room had a very large 'King-Sized' bed, and a single bed for our son, both of which were very comfortable. The room contains a flat screen TV with various international channels including Sky News, and also a mini-bar fridge. There were two bottles of water, when we arrived, which were complimentary, and we then stocked the fridge up with beer, wine, water and orange juice, bought from the local supermarkets.
The hotel has three pools, the main one at the front of the hotel is where most of the water based animation events take place, such as water polo and volleyball, so it 's fairly lively and can be on the loud side. We chose to use the other pool on that ground level (Floor 1), a smaller pool, which seemed a bit quieter, perfect for families or couples alike. There's a third pool, located on the 6th floor, which is overlooked by the restaurant. There are some lovely views to be had from that pool, but I sensed it was mainly used by more 'mature' couples, so maybe not quite as suitable for families with younger children.
The breakfasts were simply wonderful, a vast assortment of buffets, everything you could possibly dream of, and plenty you probably wouldn't. My personal favourite was the beautifully smooth greek yoghurt, with lovely honey drizzled on top !
There's a mini supermarket, which is slightly more expensive than those outside the hotel, and 3 or 4 other small shops, selling locally produced items such as shoes, handbags. One not to miss, is the frozen yoghurt shop, where you can choose your own toppings, they're just delicious.
The hotel bars are quite expensive, Eu 5.50 for a large beer, Eu 6 for a milkshake, and Eu 12 for a club sandwich, although I admit, that was easily enough for two of us to share as an afternoon snack.
The hotel has it's own section of beach, where you're looked after by a lifeguard, who doubles up as a sunbed man, and you can order drinks and food, from a very cheerful young man who then dashes back to the hotel and brings your order to the beach for you. The beach is somewhat stoney, but once in the lovely warm sea, you'll find sand underfoot. I'd recommend a cheap pair of beach shoes or flip flops, just to avoid the stones, but it certainly doesn't spoil the beach experience.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants just a short 5 minute walk away in Ixia, and an 8 Euro taxi ride will get you to Rhodes Town, where you'll find many bars and restaurants to choose from.
Overall, I simply can't fault the hotel, we had a most relaxing, enjoyable stay, and I would definitely recommend the Sheraton Rhodes Resort.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in August. The hotel is beautiful, true 5* hotel. very clean & maintained. The sea view rooms are recommended. The food was great, be aware- if you arrive late you'll have to wait.
On the down side-
1.You have to go through 2 different elevators between the rooms located from the 8th floor and up, and the lower floors (where the poll, beach etc. are) so that’s a bit of a hassle because it can take up to 10minutes waiting for them.
2. If you are with kids there is not much activity for children. The kids club has old equipment and the person in charge is not very friendly.
3.Wi-Fi- free Wi-Fi is only at the reception area and limited to 90 minutes.
4. we came with a baby and got dirty cradle with no sheets and blanket.
The beach is nice but the west coast is very windy so swimming is not such a treat. Outside of the hotel there isn't much to do, you'll have to get a taxi to Rhodes town (8 euro).

Room Tip: sea view, higher floors

I would like to share with you my terrible experience at the Sheraton Rhodes hotel & resort.

First time in my life I stay in a classic room, and from the SPG web site rooms were available, even suite.
Just heard somebody complained and got it, and every time I went to the front desk to ask something there was somebody complaining about the rooms.

After 1 day I got a sea view room...that is exactly like the classic one...except the view. Plus after taking a shower the bathroom was totally under the water due to a bad construction of it.

Pool service is terrible, the one called "adult one" full of kids, towels not available till 9/10 am...
The pool bar managed by 3 girls that are not walking around...you must call them every time...and the day I ordered the yogurt delight asking low fat one she said impossible....!!!!
Impossible to get low fat yogurt in Greece? Or just so difficult to get it from the kitchen (same available for breakfast)! And plus very slow service!

Adult pool is like an horror movie...they put food that attracts bees...(picture attached)
I will report this directly to your main office in USA....do you know how dangerous it is?
Coke zero on the menu, but not available anywhere at the hotel.

At the Spa therapist giving massage or treatments are the same changing towels and water in the gym...no comment! I cancelled my second appointment after I noticed it
In the morning the gym is messy, no towels, no water, no service at all. (And such a small gym for a big resort?) and plus you charge 8 euros for jacuzzi and steam room?

As a Platinum I should get automatically complementary water in my room and not asking for it every day. This is what I did.

Breakfast selection is poor, no light cereals at all...no bananas...no soya milk. There is not an healthy section.
Also the cakes, just 2 kinds, chocolate and vanilla.

Hotel participate to the Greek Promotion to get extra 3000 points for each stay...when I asked to front office agent about it the answer was "I don't know"....to whom should I ask?

I have been in many Hyatt and Marriott resorts during my life...and this was the first time I

Saturday 16/8, No newspaper!!!

Link@sheraton computers are very slow, and the excuse from front desk is that guests are connected with too many devices...?!?!?!
Wifi connection goes through a server, computer connection through a LAN cable....how can it be that the iPhones or PC connected on wifi are faster and your computers at Link@Sheraton area so slow?

Sunday check-out and no priority desk for gold and Platinum members.

Plus as I mentioned to the hotel and Starwood prices in Greece for you properties are crazy, going up and down without reasons...and the SPG website is giving for some properties prices like 75.000/100.000 Euros a night!!! İ never saw something like that with other hotel chains.

I feel Starwood does not care to loose loyal customers, but I suggest you instead of opening new properties first to renovate and improve the service in the ones you have...and to look after your Platinum and Ambassador guests that are expecting a better and unique experience.

Regards

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

I have to admit that we are a bit surprised with your comments, since we have tried to satisfy every single request you had while staying with us.

During your arrival, all suites were occupied and therefore we were unable to provide with your upgrade. The staff-member at our dedicated SPG check-in office, a service created exclusively for our Valued SPG members, welcomed you in the best possible way. She escorted you to the room and contacted you many times during your stay with us just to reassure you have a wonderful stay.

The above exclusive services provided, make us feel extremely surprised for your mention of the non-existence of a no priority desk. We took in serious consideration every request you had and strived to fulfill it. You were provided with a Deluxe Room, two levels above your reservation, one day after your arrival and although an upgrade is upon availability, we did our best to provide the extra care you deserve.

Upon your arrival, and later during your stay, we have placed grapefruit and excluded green apples in your complimentary fruit platter. Following your letting us know you do not drink alcohol, we replaced the welcome sparkling wine with 2 cans of Coca Cola Light, on a daily basis, except from the 16th of August, as you had placed the Do Not Disturb card in your room door.

Concerning all your other points, please, note that on Saturday, August 16th, no newspaper was delivered to your room, as due to the August 15th Bank Holiday, no newspapers were available. Furthermore, on the issue with Internet connection, after upgrading our system all over the property we obtain the highest possible speed in the area regarding the internet connection. Sometimes delay could occur due to high occupancy but rest assured that we are continually upgrading our network. All our Platinum Guests daily receive 2 bottles of water in their room; this is the policy that our housekeeping follows, you did not have to ask for it. This was a benefit of yours and house ladies were always on the way to serve you as best as possible.

Furthermore, Jacuzzi and Sauna are complementary for our Platinum guests so you were never charged of it. In order to improve our hotel’s operation the spa therapist has extended tasks including placing fresh towels at the Sheraton Fitness. We have been trying to serve all our guest in the best possible way, and in no way we intend to annoy any of them through our operational details.

Regarding the bees issue rest assured that we always take into serious consideration of all new ideas and proposals. We have chosen the current procedure exercised for repelling bees from the restaurant without harming the environment.

Regarding the products that you mentioned, please let me kindly inform you that we do have bananas, soya milk, 7 kinds of cereals, and various cakes available to our breakfast buffet which is organized and supplied based on Color Your Plate, Sheraton’s signature program for an easy way to eat healthy. Please excuse us for delight yoghurt not being available; there was a shortage due to the aforementioned bank holiday. We have received our order the next day and it is once again available to all our guests.

Concerning your last comment about the 75.000-100.000 euros per night, we exhaustively tried to comprehend your point, but we were unable due to the shortness of the feedback.
Once again thank you for your feedback, as any criticism, positive or otherwise, helps us enhance our services.

We really hope to welcome you back at the Sheraton Rhodes Resort to fully ameliorate your experience with us and to fulfill our promise for an island escape to remember.

Yours sincerely,

Markos E. Tzamalis

Me and my partner stayed here early August and it was exactly what we wanted. Quiet adult pool on the 6th floor was out favourite place to be. Ate at he Greek restaurant twice outside for the lovely views whilst watching the sun set. We would recommend its worth going all inclusive at the hotel as there wasn't much outside the restaurant within walking distance. We were bed and breakfast but paid extra to dine in the buffet restaurant 2/3 evenings which did not disappoint! All the staff were absolutely lovely and friendly. All in all a beautiful grand hotel. If we revisit Rhodes we will r retuning here! Thank you Sheraton Rhodes x

Just got back from a week in the Sheraton Rhodes Resort. Having stayed in the Fuerteventura Sheraton it was a no brainer for a luxury finale to a backpacking Europe trip. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for the outstanding staff. All have the exact same ethos. Customer comes first every time. Unlike in a lot of resort style hotels, this is not followed by the customary pregnant pause while they wait for a tip. It is almost a given that excellent service is covered in the price you pay. The food in the Castellania buffet restaurant is amazing, the quality better than most British restaurants we have eaten in. At 25 euros for adults and half price for kids for fine cuisine it's difficult not to want to stay and eat there very night rather than venture into Rhodes old town where you could pay the same for a photographed calamari dish and chips. All the waiting staff make it their business to get to know you by name and room number. All are local Rhodians and clearly love their town. One waiter, Lambros stood out in particular as being extra special but they were all great with adults and kids alike. Would be nice to actually hear the guests using please and thank you more as some just sat in mute attendance of having their glass filled or plate removed. The room was boutique, clean and we'll appointed. Our sea view was stretching it a bit as it was half blocked by a wall but it didn't bother us as we were never in it. However they do need to watch their classifications. We had been warned about the back rooms by a relative so avoid those even though they are cheaper. Love the 'skip a room clean/Eco tourist idea' where you get cash or points credits, or donate to UNICEF for not having cleaners. Pools were beautiful and you could always get a bed but avoid the pool bar. It's is a bit like shoe polish and shoes and designed to be very profitable- 4 smoothies for 30 euros is not acceptable. However the plan is clearly backfiring, waiters trying to rustle up business whilst many guests simply wandered down to the supermarket for refreshments. Drop your prices Sheraton and you will make more money and your guests even happier than they already are. The animations team were brill and really got people involved in the poolside activities. Fuerteventura seemed better tailored to teens' needs with a proper games room. Rhodes had less to offer. Didn't matter though as our two now have finely honed culinary tastebuds and were happy to surf the net on the free wifi. Overall a great place to stay.

This is a great resort hotel. We spent a week here and it really is an excellent place to stay.
I asked for a quiet room which the hotel accommodated. If you have a room over the pool area it probably will be a bit noisy if there is entertainment on.
The room was really nice. Stylish, big and airy, large balcony, great view of Turkey over the sea.
The facilities are second to none. 1 in door pool and spa but you have to pay 8 euros to use the sauna and steam room. The jacuzzi has one powerful jet which will pummel you senseless. The treatments there for massage are reasonable. The three out door pools are very nice but busy when we were there. Doing lengths is a bit tricky. The only annoying thing is when hotel guests do their usual trick of getting up at the crack of dawn and reserving sun loungers. I don't think it's really necessary, there are plenty. The hotel try to resolve this by only giving out towels at 9, but this doesn't stop some people. They even leave towels on the loungers when heading off for lunch.
Everything was very clean and as you would expect from a luxury hotel. There is a basketball court, tennis court, table tennis, kids club. Squash courts. The gym is an excellent facility. The evening entertainment included a salsa night and Greek night.
There are three restaurants. The buffet was excellent, lots of excellent food, something for everyone and all pretty healthy. Some food is Cooked fresh such as meat dishes and fish dishes. They will cook omelettes and pancakes at breakfast.
You can swap the dinner in the buffet restaurant for 10 euros off dinner in one of the other restaurants. One is Italian the other Greek which is outside near the pool. You can also swap dinner in the buffet for 10 euros off of lunch.
There is a wind surfing school at the beach which is excellent. 45 euros for an hours one to one tuition.
The beach is on the other side of a main road and is linked to the hotel via a tunnel. There is an on site shop which has most things you wil ever need. If at the beach there is a kiosk near the wind surfing school which is more convenient to get things.
There is not much to do in Ixia but the hotel offers everything you would need, which is a shame for the shops which are around but they seem to be doing ok. You can walk to Rhodes town along the coast which is a nice walk. It takes about 50min both ways but make sure you have plenty of water if on a hot day. Probably not good for young children.
The staff in the hotel are really really good. Always friendly and helpful.
