“Average Hotel - Good Location Near Old Town”
Reviewed 5 July 2012

We stayed here for a week from the 23 -30th June,2012. On walking in to the Hotel it looks very nice and the corridors leading to the rooms very nice and clean, sadly it stops there when you get to the door of your room. The doors are very tatty, wood chipped round the side, door handles had seen better days. On walking into our room we were met by a navy blue carpet that had marks on it and very worn with bits on it, not sure if it had been hoovered didn't look like it and so unusual to have carpet in such a hot country. The decoration was very tired with the boarder strip at the top all split and hanging, the whole room needed to be decorated, on turning on the air conditioning there was a terrible smell of mouldiness which we had to turn off as it got into your throat. We were in rm and our view was of concrete and some old sun loungers but this didn't really bother me as we did not ask for a room with a view. In the bathroom there was an awful smell in there of the sewage and it looked like the air vent had been sealed off with mastick which had all mould round it and the wall behind the shower at the top was all mouldy and in need of a clean and a good coat of paint.
We stayed in the room one night as it was late when we arrived and went down to reception the next day and complained that this room was not up to 5 Star standard and they told us to come back the following morning and we would be given a different room which we were, this room was over in another block and was rm 202, this room was slightly better. The bathroom looked like it had been decorated not long ago and did not smell but was not what I would call 5 Star!
The bedroom had the horrible carpet again with dark stains on it and the wallpaper needed redoing. The food was average nothing special, we were on all inclusive so we could have cocktails if we wanted but I didn't have many of them as the barmen did not seem to know how to make them they seemed to think if they put loads of vodka or barcardi in with orange squash it was a cocktail it was very strong like drinking neat spirits. I would certainly never rate this Hotel 5 Star and to be honest it would just make 3 Star. Would never stay there again!

Room Tip: we were moved from room 153 to 202 with a garden view

We stayed at the Mitsis Grand Hotel from the 23 June - 30 June on a Half Board basis.

The hotel looks very grand from the entrance. The downstairs communal areas are probably as close to 5 star as they are going to get.

We stayed in room 331, which had a sea view which was stunning, we could see Turkey on a clear day. Would recommend you pay extra for a sea view, as we knew others staying in the hotel who did not pay extra and their 'view' was a concrete wall.

The bathroom was small however it looked like it has been recently refurbished and was fit for purpose. Towels were replaced daily with clean ones if put in the bath. Small complaint about the bathroom is the complementary toiletries in the bathroom (shower gel and shampoo) were not refilled daily, so once the two small bottles were used they were not be replaced. This is something you would expect in a 5 star.

The bedroom was definitely not up to 5 star standards. The room was carpeted with quite a big big dark stain on it in one place. There was also a big hole in the carpet by the balcony doors. The reason for this is the balcony doors did not shut and open properly and got stuck on the carpet. The Chambermaid cleans the rooms daily, however, we do not believe she hoovered once and by the end of the holiday there were lots of bits on the carpet. There was an ants nest behind the dressing table and they got everywhere. We went to Reception about this on our first morning and they informed the Chambermaid who sorted the problem out very quickly. All of the furniture looked a bit tatty around the edges, something you would not really expect from a 5 star.

Most of the staff were very friendly. The young girl who stands outside the dinning area at breakfast and dinner was very friendly.

The food in the restaurant was typical hotel buffet food. At breakfast there was ham and cheese, baked beans and some funny looking little sausages, they cooked eggs and pancakes in front of you. They had juices and water. At dinner there was usually a couple of different meats being cooked in front of you, there was salad, salad dressings, lots of Tzatziki and potatoes.

Booking into the Chinese Restaurant is a must. There were 5 of us and we all chose something different and had a bit of each dish which was nice. The Italian is also very nice, although the Panacotta is more like Creme Caramel.

There are 3 pools at the hotel. One at the front, which we did not use, so cannot comment. We went to the pool round the back of the hotel which was not too busy. However, we did have to put our towels on the sunbeds before breakfast as everyone was doing this. There is also an indoor poor (not heated) which rarely had anyone in.

The entertainment in the evenings was a man playing a keyboard and singing. On Friday night there was a performance by some Greek dancers.

The Hotel is near to a bit of a dodgy road, which has strip clubs on it. However there is no need to go down this road and if you head in the opposite direction you will eventually end up in Rhodes Old Town (15-20 Min walk) or you can get a taxi for 5€. Don't order taxi from the hotel as the taxi driver will charge you 2€ extra for a call out from hotel. Just walk down the road and there is a taxi rank there. The Old Town is beautiful and has lots of shops and bars.

The hotel is on the beach front. It can get very windy, but this is nice when it is so hot. Sunbeds are 4€ each and include a parasol.

Would not recommend this hotel for families who like their children to be entertained. There is not a children's club and neither is there any entertainment for kids.

All in all would recommend if you want a cheap holiday and you don't expect luxury. If you expect 5 star, then this place is not for you, as this is more of a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Would recommend you pay extra for a sea view, as we knew others staying in the hotel who did not pay...

We have just returned from the Grand hotel. This is a great hotel, not quite a 5 star, but almost. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room, sea view on the 4th floor was great, roomy and clean and you got the sun bleeting through in the afternoon. The food was great, plenty to choose from and the is a lovely italians and chinese restaurant to try out too. There is a fridge in the room which is a big plus, but take your portable kettle if you need to. All in all I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms, worth the extra charge

This a great hotel, and while it has plenty of to marvel it is not a 5 star, but then this differs on personal experiences and the expectation. This hotel would be great possibly for business, and for those that really want to enjoy the Rhodos town. I have stayed here only for a couple of days and location is the best for this. The beach is pebbles, and is just across the road. Perhaps the best thing about this is that the most know bars and nightclubs are just two block away from the hotel, and no matter how drunk you can still find the way back :)

Always book via agents for discounts, I found mine via www.directline-holidays.co.uk

We went to Mitsis Grand on the 31st March for 1 week. This hotel is in a great location and is only 2 mins to the long stretch of beach at the front that was our balcony view. Lovely view at sunset. Only a 15 minute walk into Old Town. The hotel had only just re-opened after a long awaited refurbishment by bad reviews that we previously read before departure. Overall very good, the room were nice but still looked a bit out of date (however class for the price as you only really stop in the room to sleep). The restaurants were average, the Italian and Chinese that you can book at reception once each (make sure you book early if you want a time to suit your plans). Food was ok and the staff were friendly apart from one occasion and one rude staff member in the restaurant that seem to suddenly not speak English when we had a complaint. Seems the dress code is strict when you wear posh three quarter length trousers and shirt. To me this was smart casual but not allowed. Men need to have trousers full length, but this is not consistent as women are allowed to wear pretty much what or as little as they want and a child on heellies skating around the food area is acceptable? The all inclusive main restaurant was a bit tiresome towards the end of the week but when you have the Old Town and so many lovely Taverna's on you doorstep then this was not a problem. Our only issue's were that there is no entertainment. There was a nice bar but you had to pay (very expensive) the only inclusive bar was a tad small with very poor repetitive music.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the sea like ours were quieter after hearing reviews from other travelers.

The hotel is in the city center and just opposite the wonderful beaches, the service is great, the food at the Chinese and Italian resturants in the hotel are good.
The Staff at the hotel are helpful. The hotel is clean and the rooms are fine.
There is only problem, the rooms don't have a kettle for hot water, the safe deposit vault cost 4 Euro P.D while in most of the five star hotels they are given out for free.

Room Tip: Request for rooms facing the beach.
