“Thank you and well done!!”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

We stayed in the Mitsis Grand Hotel in Rhodes Town from the 09 to 16 April 2014. The hotel is extremely well positioned on the island, it is not too close to the centre of Rhodes Town to be noisy but not too far away to stroll in and enjoy the hustle and bustle of it all and take in the sites and the history of the Old Town.
Our first impressions when entering the hotel were very good the reception area was very impressive and we found the bars and restaurants and all communal areas clean and well presented. The hotel is clean and bright throughout.
The staff were very professional and helpful and coped happily with the large quantities of tired guests that arrived all at once due to many of the flights being originally delayed and then all landing at the same time.
There are a number of pools, all freezing I might add, including the indoor pool, but probably a godsend in the height of summer.
Our room was well located, we had a sea view and afternoon sun on our balcony as requested when we booked. Room was a good size, clean and the bathroom was lovely, toiletries which were of nice quality were topped up every day. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed we have ever slept in, We slept as well as we do at home.
The food was excellent and the chefs were serving with a smile and worked very hard to accommodate the many requests of the guests, we had some concerns after reading the reviews before we left England but we needn't have worried there was more than enough to eat for even the most fussy of eaters. If there was any criticism it would be of the guests with their terrible table manners and lack of consideration for others when literally "ploughing" through the food. Many of them with plates piled high, making a terrible mess and then not eating the food and just walking off and leaving a table full of waste .... it takes all sorts.
There was some repair work to a roof, and there was some building project going on within the grounds. This did disturb us somewhat whilst we were relaxing by the pool and we felt that this should have been done before the beginning of the season but it wasn't so bad as to ruin our stay. The friendliness and the warmth of the staff more than made up for any small failings. Would we stay here again, definitely, if we came back to Rhodes we would, it was pretty good, maybe not a 5 star but still very good. Thank you and well done Mitsis Grand we had a great time!!!!

We stayed just one night, in order to see Rhodes town at a more leisurely pace. We were welcomed with a refreshing drink on arrival, leaving our car conveniently parked at the front of the hotel, while we went off sight-seeing, as our room was not ready until 1.30pm. Reception staff were very professional - and plentiful enough to deal with the number of guests booking in or requesting information.
The hotel itself is very 'Grand' and luxuriously appointed throughout the public areas. Our room was lovely, with views and a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. We found the room spacious and elegant, although some slightly out-dated decorative features have been retained. Beds were large and comfortable, with memory foam mattresses and a choice of pillows. The bathroom had plenty of room for two, with lashings of hot water and a range of appealing toiletries. Unfortunately, our room was just off a large, marble clad lift and stairway entrance, which was incredibly noisy and 'echoey' throughout the night and in the early hours, making sleep difficult. Having asked for a quiet room, I was a little disappointed in this and, had we been staying another night, would have asked to be moved to the end of a corridor.
There were 4 pools at the hotel, although only 3 in use at the time. We used the large outdoor pool which was excellent for an invigorating swim but rather too cold to lounge about in, as we visited early in the season. Had we stayed longer we would definitely used the indoor Spa pool, which looked very inviting.
The main buffet was extensive, with comprehensive provision for breakfast and dinner. However, we found the experience rather crowded and noisy. Had we stayed longer, we would have booked in to the Chinese or Italian themed restaurants on site for a more relaxed approach to dining. The wines on offer were a little thin and didn't represent the best of what Rhodes has available.
The Mitsis Grand was excellent value and just fine for our requirements but I would not recommend it for people with young families or the younger crowd who may find this environment a little tame for their tastes. However, for the more mature or quieter visitor, it is an excellent choice. We have used the Mitsis chain before and would do so again, unhesitatingly.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room well away from the lift and stair area.

We went 5th-12th April 2014 2 adults 49,50 two teenagers 13&15 Half Board. We werre very happy with the hotel. like others have said I would class it as 4 star.We could not fault the staff at all, The hotel managers appeared to be very attentive to the smooth running of the hotel. Nothing seemed to be a problem. The hotel had just opened, any minor glitches with the room were rectified immediately. We had a sea view but the garden/pool view/rooms looked like they had a good view too. there were a handful of rooms that had a dreadful view (Near the lift shaft) I don`t know if these are used by guests but I would not have been pleased to have had been allocated one of those rooms, we used one on the day of departure maybe they are just used for that purpose or for staff. The hotel looked like it had been repainted during the closed season. The Buffet Restaurant was good. My wife and children went once to the Chinese restaurant and were not overly impressed. plenty of staff about the hotel. not much for the kids to do. although the free WiFi in reception kept them happy. The entertainment was just a guy at night in the bar with a keyboard although they trialed out a young Greek guy out who played the guitar and sung, he was fantastic!! apparently he could play the Bouzouki too. the Manager said that he was going to start playing there once or twice a week, if this has happened inquire what night he is working at the hotel,he is not to be missed! hotel very clean. We highly recommend.

Room Tip: Sea View, or garden/pool view anything else is taking a risk.

I have returned last night from Mitsis Grand Hotel. 7 days all inclusive stay. My rating is not really high, as all of the hotel facilities are prepared for 60+. If you are over 60, this is perfect offer for you. Fantastic location, nice and helpful staff, very good food with Chinese and Italian restaurants. 5 stars hotel experience. The management of the hotel definitely aims wealthy retired, as the basic customers.
If you are 35-55, it is not that great, no more then good 3 stars experience. In all swimming pools water is icy cold. No swimming, unless you are a penguin. Barrier prices for the gym, entertainment not really suitable for your age. I made a resolution to use the swimming pool every day, but I did not use it not even once. Next time I make sure , that the swimming pool is heated , before I make any booking.
If you are younger then 35, better find more friendly hotel for you, unless you enjoy to be surrounded by people 2-4 times older then yourself. No entertainment, poor facilities for any activity. You might find yourself to kill your time.
The guests of the hotel mostly Dutch and Russians, but there are some French, Poles, Germans. I have not met English. All of them are Ok and nice.
Tips. Use the Chinese and Italian restaurants as many times as possible. It makes you to feel much better with the every day buffet food .
I possibly return to the hotel for another stay when I am retired.

Room Tip: The hotel is prepared for 60+. If you are significantly younger , you might be disappointed.

we stayed here last year and absolutely loved it! the room are big and the service is great!
the thing that we love the most is the fact the hotel had a two thimed resturant one is italian and the other was asian food - the food was very tasty and had a nice twiset that you do feel like dinning in a resturant but you still in the hotel!
plus the hotel have a great location - right next to the main barstreet - but no worries we had a good night sleep! it is also very close to the beach and you can even walk to the old city.
definitely come back!

We stayed at the Mitsis Grand for a week in the first half of April. When we arrived at the hotel we were really impressed with the location and facilities. The hotel is huge but was clean and the staff efficient (if not necessarily that friendly). It is a little dated but generally in good condition and our room was very spacious.
The hotel is situated right on the seafront and is a convenient 20 min stroll into the Old Town. Because it was the very start of the season, a lot of tavernas etc were still not open and the resort felt quite run down in some places. This did have it's benefits as it meant there were less people around.
The first half of the week at the Mtisis was lovely and very relaxing because it was quite quiet. The food at the buffet restaurant was great quality for an all inclusive place and there are plenty of options which we enjoyed without queues for the first part of our holiday.
However, and this is the only down side, the second half of the week, the occupancy of the hotel seemed to double overnight and it was bedlam in the restaurant. Previously having been seated straight away and having our pick of the various stations and dishes, we had to queue to get into the restaurant and the hot counter serving freshly cooked meat and crepes etc had an enormous queue continuously. This combined with other diners elbowing you and racing to get items before they ran out did not make for a relaxing meal and the restaurant became somewhere you just wanted to get out of as quickly as possible.
It just isn't big enough for the capacity of the hotel and despite the staff working as hard and fast as they could, they were really struggling to cope with the number of guests. I dread to think what this is like in peak summer season. Such a shame as the rest of the holiday was lovely and based on the first half of our stay, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better balconies with no view of the AC units.
