“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

This hotel is listed as 5 star and although I must agree with other reviewers that it was more like a very good 4 star (us British are so hard to please) I would not hesitate to stop here again. The staff are all very friendly and efficient and nothing it too much to ask. The food is lovely and well worth going half board. We chose not to be all enclusive as we were often out and about but I did see people getting packed lunches. The hotel is extremely well situated as it is literally right on the beach and the cool breezes off the sea make the temperatures more manageable. It is a 15 minute walk from the old city of Rhodes and was easily managable.
I would advise people to get rooms with a sea view is they want a quiet night as rooms overlooking the pool at the back of the hotel (there is also a pool at the front) had to listen to the nightly entertainment from the hotel bar ... not too much of a hardship as it is good but my children are older and I would not like to think I had small children to settle down for the night.

Room Tip: Book rooms with sea views for a quieter evening.

First off, a pet peeve. It really is disappointing that a purportedly five-star hotel would feel the need to gouge its guests for wifi access. I mean, €5 PER DEVICE for TWO HOURS!? Wifi is a pretty universal request of most guests and, even if there is a case for cost recovery (which most other hotels don't seem to make, including on other islands), it isn't anywhere near this sort of figure. On one occasion during my stay, while I was standing at reception, three separate people asked/complained about the wifi - and the rip-off pricing really does leave a bad taste in guests' mouths. I imagine it's also a pain for staff who have to constantly fend off irate guests over it.

It is true that there is free wifi offered in the lobby but: (a) it is so slow as to be dysfunctional; (b) you have to camp in the lobby with dozens of teens desperately waiting for Instagram to load on their mobile phones.

Now, as for the broader issues...

This is a huge, impersonal hotel. It feels like it may once have been a five-star hotel - when the standards for a five-star hotel were somewhat less exacting - but it has faded to probably 4.5 stars these days.

On the up side, the room was comfortable, the sea view was sensational and the location was good - a 15-20 minute walk from the Old City and surrounded by shops/restaurants. The staff were, by and large, pleasant and helpful - though there were exceptions.

The food at the buffet breakfast and dinner is fine too - some of it is reasonably good.

On the flip side, in peak season, the pool space is inadequate for the number of guests. It is not acceptable for a "five-star" hotel in a place like Rhodes to have insufficient pool space. I watched as people came to the pool, walked around looking for somewhere to lie down, gave up and left.

All in all, the hotel wasn't bad but it had some frustrations. If you want a crowded, mass-produced, factory-style hotel that nevertheless provides a reasonable degree of comfort, this could work for you. My recommendation would be to book early and try to find a better option. However, if you end up booking here, it isn't too bad - even if certain capacity/amenity issues grate.

This was our first trip to any part of Greece having always opted for USA, Canada or Spanish resorts for smaller holidays, so it was with trepidation that we booked this trip. I have to say we were all very pleasantly surprised with what we got! Many people had said to us that the Greeks dont understand the principles behind the 'All Inclusive' packages and to a certain extent that is true. For example; Drinks, especially water should be on hand either from dispensers, or bottles in fridges etc around the pool areas rather than people get a tiny cup from the bars all the time. We felt that the small round pool which was seldomly used, because it wasnt full would make a great outdoor bar area for the pool. The food areas are all excellent round the pool but I do think you should be able to choose from any of the menus & sit where you like rather than restrict specific seating to the Mexican, Greek or Burger areas. If different members of the party want different food they should be able to have it. The entertainment definitely needs an upgrade! The 2 decent groups (Il Divo & Beatles Tribute acts) were excellent and whilst I dont think the hotel needs, or could accommodate any major entertainment I do think they need to consider changing their 'regular' male singer because for a start he wasnt even playing the keyboard he was sat behind & 'crooning' was at best what he was doing! I would suggest that in the evening where everyone sits outside that more waiting staff are provided to fetch drinks rather than just clear tables. All that said the hotel was immaculate, food was superb & actually offered a better choice than a lot of other All Inclusive 5* resorts we have stayed in. Staff were all very pleasant indeed and cannot be faulted in anyway. Beach was not great but served its purpose. Location was great for Rhodes & Old Town which was absolutely stunning & should be visited many times to see the best Rhodes has to offer. Would go back! Thank you.

I have just returned from a 7 night all inclusive holiday at this hotel and what a treat it was!

When we arrived (around 2.30pm) we were quickly checked in with no hassle and told that lunch was about to end so to make our way to the restaurant if need be but we decided to get up to the room to start with as we knew other places in the hotel would be open for food.

The room was lovely and spacious and the air con was very powerful (much appreciated as it got up to 39 degrees during our stay!). The maids were very thorough and gave us clean towels every day and left 4 bottles of water (one day we didn't get any and another day we only had two - but they tended to leave the bottles outside your door so we think other residents must have taken them!)

The food was really good. There is a main restaurant buffet style which serves a huge selection of food for both breakfast and dinner (we didn't eat here for lunch). They even cook food in front of you so you know it is fresh. There are other restaurants around the poolside as well - a Greek, Pitta/Burger, Mexican and Creperie (which also doubled up as an ice cream bar!). There was also a pizza hut where a woman was constantly cooking pizza all day where you could just wander up and grab a slice whenever you wanted. We tried all places for either lunch or dinner, all of which were really nice and made a change from the buffet restaurant. It felt like we had actually gone out for a meal rather than being in a hotel. We were really suprised when they just bought over more drinks to us without us even ordering - this was a very nice touch from the attentive staff.

Entertainment was a bit lacking but this didn't bother us. It tended to be one man on a keyboard most evenings but it was nice background music. The guy on a guitar another night was also very good.

All inclusive at this hotel really did mean all inclusvie. We could go to whichever bar we wanted or eat at whichever restaurant we wanted without extra charge. The drinks on offer was good - a total of 9 cocktails, 3 or 4 non-alcholic cocktails, plus a huge range of soft drinks. I was a particular fan of their lemonade!!

There are plenty of sun beds although we did have one afternoon that we struggled to find a one but that was a one off.

We booked 3 excursions through the hotel which were very well organised and which we thoroughly enjoyed.

All in all, we loved this hotel and would definitely recommend to anyone considering visiting Rhodes. The location was brilliant for the old town (about a 15 min walk at a relatively average speed). About 35/40 mins from the airport with a coach transfer.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 3rd floor (garden view) which overlooked a nice big pool and trees etc. The ro...

We went to Rhodes and Mitsis Grand Hotel 23.th of july for a two weeks stay well aware what would meet us, we thought. But surprise! They ' ve managed to make it even better!
As it comes out from the title, this was our third stay here, in three years. We already knew of the friendly and nice staff, the clean hotel, the restaurants ( buffet, chinese and italian) and we were so surprised when we realised there was a greek , a mexican, a pitta-burger and a pancake restaurant opened this june. And a pizzaoven from were you could have freshly made pizza during day time.
As a result from this, and from the hotel quitting the table card in the main restaurant, there where no more ques.
We tried all restaurants at our stay, also the chinese and italian, were you have to book table 1 day in advance, and the food was exellent.
We had all-inclusive, and I'm happy to say that this goes for a real all-inclusive now. Both the pool-bar and the bar by the reception were included. And the drinks were nice and a good variety of longdrinks et.c.
The hotel had hired an event managment, wich gave us Il divo, acrobats, dancetroup and 3 different groups making cover versions of Beatles, 70s and 80s music (don't remember their name) and ABBA the pool bar.
3 days a guy with a guitar played, and the piano man from the inside bar played once.
At this events the pool bar were a bit overcrowded, but this was just a minor task.
There is a freshwater-pool (w. Chlorine)indoor witch I only tried a fem times the first year, and in the garden a kiddie pool with only a few inces of water, but my preferance is the saltwater pool.
By the entrance of the hotel there's a big pool wich is said to have warmer water.
And if you prefer, you just have to walk across the street to the beach, allthough I would have made it a little towards the aquarium to get a better beach.

We were two adults and two 18 year old boys. The boys will go back, but mabe try another hotel with younger clientel.
As for us, Mitsis Grand Hotel is no.1 and we'll come back next year as well.

i have been there since 5th of august and i just came back yesterday. The only thing which i liked about the hotel was location. the food was terrible and very limited type of food and no variety of bread for breakfast.

for the first day in the the swimming pool bar, we have been told off by the staff because of the children wet the floor and they said to us that if you come by wet body then we won't let you in.

there are 4 restaurants by the pool that served different types of food and the problem is that:

first problem was that they took so long to make the food ready for you( in other hotels they have generously prepared food)

second problem, if you are in a group and you wanted to order different food, you can't sit together because your weren't allowed to take the food elsewhere.

there was no shallow pool for the kids at least from 8 to 13 and it was all salty and cold!

Room Tip: sea view is a great way to relax in the night
