Minos Pension & Roof Garden Lounge
Ranked #64 of 126 Hotels in Rhodes Town
Reviewed 18 November 2013

We went there in early November and it seemed we were the only guests at that time. We reserved a triple room but they gave us a 4-people room, which is rather spacious. I tried to contact them via email and see if we could book it directly with them, but they didn't reply. Probably the couple are rather old and they don't use the internet.
The room is large and clean, with a boiler, hair dryer and small kitchen. The roof garden cafe was closed at that time but we could still go up there and took pictures. If you take the bus from the airport, it is around 15-20 minutes walk from the bus stop.
The owner gave us some bottled water and other drinks free of charge.
Kostas Taverna at Pythagoras 62 is just a 3-minute walk away.

If you are looking for a decent place to stay on Rhodes and would like to get value for money, Minos Pension might be the right place. We stayed in one of the inside budget rooms, and even though it was small, it was clean and sufficient for 2 nights. Breakfast is probably not their forte, but if you are in need, it will suffice. However, having coffee on the rooftop terrace overlooking the harbour and old town, was truly lovely!

We stayed at Minos Pension (MP) for two nights in mid-September 2013, based primarily on the reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere extolling the views from the rooftop. We were not disappointed on that score -- the view is breathtaking, and we ended up spending quite a bit of time on the rooftop each afternoon.

MP is located in the old town, and is at most a 10-15-minute walk from any of the attractions there, such as the old crusader palace (the palace of the knights). We found it pretty easily after a 5-minute walk from the Pili Agiou Ioannou gate, where a taxi from the airport dropped us off. (Note: the taxi cost us €22, in contrast to the maximum of €15 or so indicated on the MP website. The latter needs updating, as the taxi driver showed us the printed schedule of currently-applicable rates.) Rhodes old town is lovely -- although we found it thoroughly overrun with tourists -- and visiting the attractions will keep you busy for at least a day, two at most.

The staff (Minos is family-owned and -run) was welcoming, gracious and helpful throughout. Our ground-floor room (two twin beds next to one another) was rather small and felt a little dark and dingy, but was well-kept and clean and did the job, as they say. (We booked very late, so many of would have been our top choices of establishment and/or room were already sold out.). We did not have any issues with noise at night, though we may have been lucky with quiet neighbors.

We did not have any meals at MP (breakfast was not included in our room rate and, at €7.50 per person (price for residents) did not strike us as a bargain, so we opted for coffee and pastries outside), and thus cannot judge the quality of the food there. Drinks at the rooftop cafe were priced similarly to other cafés in the area.

In terms of suggestions for improvement, I have only a couple of minor things to point out. First, the processing of passport information at check-in could be a lot more efficient. My partner left her passport with the management at check-in, and when we asked for it back a couple of hours later we were told that it hadn't yet been processed and that we'd get it back in the morning. When we insisted and explained that we weren't comfortable wandering around without ID, they agreed to take down the information immediately (a task that took 2 minutes at most) and return the passport. Second, the amount of soap provided (one tiny bar for the entire stay) is not very generous, although in fairness this seems to be standard practice in much of Greece. Finally, rather than charge separately for breakfast, a better strategy may be to charge slightly more for B&B.

Room Tip: We did not see any of the other rooms, so would find it difficult to recommend a specific one.

Lovely, quaint pension in a very quiet alley off Pythagoras Street. We took the room with a kitchenette and balcony, which we thoroughly enjoyed! Very clean and friendly, though I can imagine too basic for some tourists (tiny soap and no shampoo in the small shower). The view from the room's window and from the roof is breathtaking and makes the stay special.
Not sure if this is a Greek thing, but wasn't keen on the owner's insistence on keeping one passport throughout the stay (four nights).

We stayed here for two nights in order to see Rhodes Old Town. We were thrilled with the location, a short walk from the centre of the little cobbled town. Our room was very nice, simple and clean. The family who run the pension were very helpful and told us places to visit and always asked if we needed anything. The rooftop bar was lovely and we could see the direction to walk in to get to everywhere. It took about two minutes to get to the main square, where there are many restaurants and bars etc.
