“It was OK”

Not a bad hotel, but wouldn't rush back. When we first arrived I wondered what had possessed me to book it in the first place! However, a week was OK. The food was not that great and although we were fully inclusive you do have to pay extra for air con and safety deposit box. We ate out in the evening four times as the food some evenings was dire! The staff were nice though and the girls who served in the pool bar were lovely! Trying to get across the road to the beach is another matter - take your running shoes with you as it is a VERY busy road and they will also come in handy when trying to walk on the very stony beach too!!

myself two children and friend stayed here on the 20th july 2011, we stayed in the appartments over looking the pool, they were everything you needed clean ,roomy and bang in the heart of ixia. they are 2min walk to the local supermarket ( head right just outside the main hotel),bars and places to eat also 2min walk heading the same way as the supermarket. buses run every 15mins form just outside the hotel around 2euro 60cent per adult single ticket to rhodes town, return tickets you get from a round wooden hut where the bus drops you off in rhodes look for this when you jump off, theres a fab beach opposite the olympic hotel heading past the supermarket in ixia, sunbeds were 4euros each for all ages well worth it as theres no time limit on them ,you have to cross a busy road to get to the beach, but if you head up on the same side of the road as the supermarket the road splits making traffic easier to cross infront of it. staff were lovely spesh micheal douglos stavros( hiya from sharon stone lol x) the night desk porter fab bloke, all staff were lovely and helpful, the rep was fab, hard working and always there if needed, all in all fantastic holiday!!!!. air con charge 35pound for the week, it was 45degrees so this is a must! you can use day and night no extra charge once youve paid the 35pounds ,postbox for postcards is in the main hotel on the left by the desk, stamps are in the supermarket you buy the amount you need, also just outside the hotel just on the left theres a shop we didnt find until the end of our holiday .however we found the supermarket fantastic prices for most things 5lt of water was £1.95, gifts are good value for family and friends also. happy holidays hope you enjoy if you chose to go as we did x

Room Tip: we stayed in appartment 52, ideal spot few marbel stairs but worth it for pool view to watch kids if...

Me and my partner have just returned from our holiday and we loved Ixia. The location from the hotel is ideal. Although the hotel is a little run down we can't really think of anything major to complain about unlike some of the previous reviews.
The hotel staff and entertainment staff couldn't have been more helpful or nice during our stay.
The food again we had no complaints as there was something for everyone.
The location of our hotel as stated was ideal. On leaving the hotel and going right takes you to the bars and restaurants which we thought were good and visited Caballero cocktail bar more than once. Try the rainbow cocktail they are amazing!!! If you go left when leaving the hotel we went along to the neighbouring town of treanda which also was filled with bars shops and restaurants. We took a taxi which cost around 7 euros but if you walk it only take 30 mins.
Rhodes town is only 5mins on a bus away which the bus stop is right outsdie the hotel.
All in we had a good holiday and met some really nice people along the way so don't be put off by the bad reviews. A holiday is what YOU make of it not what a brouchere tells you.

Stayed at the Solemar for 2 weeks Aug 3, on a s/c basis. It is kept clean but the buildings are very dated, old and run down and could do with a lot of money spending on it. The staff are friendly enough and work hard espeically the cleaner, bless her. The pool is very deep so good for diving and swimming but not really suitable for small children, you would have to watch them like a hawk. There is a corner of the pool which is shallow but not very big but that's it for kids. There is entertainment during the day which was the same every day we were at the pool, a bit like ground hog day, don't know how people could sit there every day, but they did, not really our cup of tea. There was entertainment on most nights but we never stayed to watch it but did speak to other guests and they said it was rubbish. We stayed in an apartment which was basic but clean. Beds were like rocks every morning woke up with an aching back. We paid 42 euros for the air con for 2 wks and 20 euros for a safe for 2 wks, this was next to reception. There are a few cats around but they didn't bother us and mostly hang around the back of the kitchen area waiting for scraps. There is a bar next to the pool which the all inclusive use but you could buy drinks and snacks there, and a bar at the front which was cash only this opened from 6pm. There is the usual pool table, air hockey, table tennis to play on, and settees and tables in the reception area.

We were s/c so we ate out every day, there are a few resturants and bars next to the solemar. The Napoli italian resturant was good, and Jason's was okay. Good bars next to Solemar, Calleboro, FBI (both with free wi-fi) and Valentino's.

The beach in Ixia wasn't great very stoney and a bit rough for us, got deep very quickly not suitable for small children at all. Ixia isn't a 'traditional' Greek village/town at all no white washed buildings or golden beaches a bit of a let down really. There's a lot of bars/resturants/shops which have shut down in Ixia, so it's not a nice looking place. Obviously a combination of hard times and the majority of the hotels offering all inclusive. Basically Ixia is a VERY busy road with a few hotels, bars, shops and restaurants. That's it.

We hired a car (150 euros for 3 days) and went to some beautiful places, Lindos, Stegna, Afandou, wished we'd hired it for longer there was so much to see. We also went to the water park (Falaraki) which the kids enjoyed (20 euros each), and went on a boat trip which was great. We had a few nights in Rhodes town which is lovely got a taxi there for 10 euros, loads to see and do there.

Had a fab holiday but as I said nothing to do with the Solemar, glad we were s/c, would definitely go back to Rhodes, but wouldn't stay at Solemar or in Ixia next time.

Stayed in one of the studios for a wee and it was okay but kind of glad we werent there for two. The size of the studio itself is fine for 2 people and the kitchen facilities were fine, everything you would need for a weeks stay as we ate out every night anyway. My main issue was the bathroom. Ants everywhere, however we bough ant killer spray and they soon dissapeared. The Shower is a joke, the shower head isnt attached to wall (greek tradition apparently!) so you kind of had to hose yourself down and as the shower curtain didnt reach the bottom the bathroom got soaked. There is a plug on the ground to suggest its meant to be a wet room but im not buying it! The shower is also tiny, cant barely move in it. My boyfriend is 6ft 3 so you can imagine how it was for him. Other issue was the lock on the balcony door was tempremental, could sometimes open it from outside when it was meant to be locked! Reported it straight away and was told someone would be round but no one ever appeared. Just kept all our belongings in the safe. The beds were rock hard also, had to put the blankets under the sheets to try make a bit softer but didnt really help! Apart from these issues we had a good time. Had drinks in the hotel bar before we went out most nights, and as been said before the bar man is very friendly. Went to the beach every day as the breeze was amazing, 8 euros for 2 sunbeds for the day which was def worth it. Went to the pool on the last day and nearly died with the heat, no breeze at all! The restaurants in Ixia are quite nice, had a nice meal in Dimetrios, very friendly staff. Went into Rhodes Town a A few nights and it was beautiful. The old town is a must see. Lovely Restaurants and bars. Hope people find this helpful as before I went I read lots of reviews and hoped that the people writing good ones were right! I have been honest here so remember don’t go expecting 5 star luxury, it just about cuts it at 3 star.

Enjoyed a 2 week holiday at the Solemar and was a little anxious after reading previous reviews. Fortunately, there was no need to be! I stayed all inclusive and over a fortnight, every mealtime was different and the food was good. The hotel was clean and well placed for the nicest bars in Ixia. All the staff were friendly and helpful...Gabriel was an excellent barman and the animation team were enthusiastic - aquagym was lots of fun! The main road was busy but crossable and the bus stop is just at the front of the hotel for a quick journey into Rhodes Town...a definite must-visit. I would definitely use this hotel again.

We stayed for a week from 23rd to 31st July on all inclusive.
First of all we found the food fine, there was spag bol on most days as some reviews said, but there was also many other choices and we found something to eat without any trouble. Don't come here thinking you're going to get an all inclusive like the Carribbean though, if you understand this is Greece, you'll be fine.
The drinks were also fine, but the hotel should maybe think about opening the bar at the front to the all inclusive guests as we did get a bit fed up of the pool bar.
There are a lot of cats around the hotel and the smell of cat pooh while sunbathing did put me off and we ended up walking about most of the day.
Pool was nice and the entertainment was poor although the staff get 100% for trying.
Rooms cleaned most days and all the staff we encountered were pleasant.
We would have preferred to have just gone self catering and spent more time in Ixia's bars and restaurants, we did visit some but not as many as we normally like to in Greece.
Bus stop just outside the hotel to Rhodes town 2.20 euro's each, from there you can travel round the Island easy enough.
A final tip: if you want to keep your room on the last day, ask at the beginning of your holiday to make a note in their diary, they will then plan rooms around yours, if you ask on the last day they might have planned to put new guests in yours. It costs 30 euro's, well worth it.
