Me and my boyfriend went to Solemar 29th June 2011 for a week it was our first holiday abroad together, i am soo fussy I even take my bed sheets on holiday, but I have to say it wasn't needed it was all very clean, could do with a bit of doing up but yano its a 3* and its's cheap what do you expect! The staff were always helpful and the cleaners did put fresh towel in daily, can eptied bins etc.. shower was very small and took getting used to but it did the job also when on the loo hard to close the door because of where it was positioned but i didnt spend much time in the bathroom haha. Spent a lot of time on the balcony taking drinks up from the pool bar and chilling over looking the avery which never woke us up so I dont know what people are on about? im also a light sleeper so.. Food was lovely, typical all inclusive fish was lovely, fish and emat cooked fresh in front of you on a grill. Pizza and Mousakka on the pool bar for a snak soggy sarnies and chips yum.. cocktails at pool bar very watered down but very tasy, wine at the restraunt lethal i was drunk off a glass haha.. international bar was good when pool bar closed at 11:30pm Gabrielle was very friendly. Also the animation team, Jorn and Danni were always trying to entertain even though it wasn't very good on that poky stage in the grass bless them haha.. they offered to take us to other bars around after mind giving us tips on good places to go.. Also french boules, volley ball, water areobics, darts the lot in the day.. Ask Gabrielle behind the bar for a kebab from FBI's he'll order it as long as its before 12 and its delishhhhh! must be done! Also tip him generouosly he works very hard and is building his own hotel apparently.. All staff friendly as a whole reception man was always joking around and the pool bar girl (don't know names sorry) Made friends. Room was baisic, British channels a lot of Nicholas Cage films which helped when I was nursing a hangover oen day haha, even friends was on at one point haha.. but fot the price its clean and youre not in there a lot.. Yes a lot of cats by the pool is a bit annoying.. but always sunbed never a shortage and buy a drink in pool down the road and they let you use it though we didnt we liked it at the hotel.. Rhodes town lovely at night (Old) i found new town boring and ALL shops there closed on a sunday.. oops.. found out the hard way.. yes uts a oebble beach but its very pretty... Me and my boyfriend loved it, would go back again, we're all on a budget you need to be open minded and it was great value for money.. Missed brecky everyday bar one well my boyfriend went once he said it was nice and he raved about the soup haha.. fridge in our room wasnt noisy nor did it freeze our water we left there all night? We didn't eat out once all week and were happy and no bad tummies so? LOVED IT! (: miss it very much, perfect holiday with plenty to do it you go out looking :)

Room Tip: I would go for a pool room, our toilet was in a weird place don't nkow what rooms didn't but...

Over the past 30 years we have stayed in many 3*, 4* & 5* hotels and fully understand the qualities and differences we should expect. Until now they have all been comparable for their standards and particularly for their hygiene, however, the Solemar Hotel is definitely not a 3* hotel and would struggle to achieve a 2* rating.

Below is a summary of the woeful qualities of the Solemar hotel

1.Although we were given a sea view, there was no mention in the brochure that there was a busy main road in-between the hotel and the beach resulting in us not being able to use the balcony as it was too noisy.

2.There was no pedestrian thoroughfare from the hotel to the beach. We took our own life in our hands trying to cross the road. The elderly or those in wheelchairs would have found it almost impossible to cross and it would be a complete hazard for children.

3.The shower bracket in the bathroom was broken. We were unable to have normal showers due to only being able to manually hold the shower head.

4.The towels were old and worn.

5.The photo in the Manos brochure and the Solemar Website are clearly misrepresentative of how the restaurant and pool area actually are.

6.The man responsible for maintenance was seen in the same soiled T-shirt for at least 4 consecutive days which revealed extreme sweat patches. On one occasion he was seen in this state behind the food counter in the restaurant whilst food was being cooked and guests were being served by the chef from hot griddle. This was about 15 minutes after he was seen dragging the wheelie bins to the front of the hotel road.

7.After approximately 8.00pm guests could no longer take advantage of the hot griddle, so it was a first come first served basis, despite the restaurant being open until 9.30pm.

8.The food in the restaurant was, on many occasions, inedible resulting in us going out to eat at an additional cost of ~€240 to us – but worth it!!!!!.

9.Breakfast was diabolical and hot food was often cold. Food put out for the evening was also found at breakfast/lunch the following day i.e. warmed up banana fritters, mixed grill consisting of left-over meat i.e. sausage, chicken etc.

10.The food at the snack bar was often stale and inedible i.e. sandwiches were curled up at the ends plus chips had been left for so long they were hard. There is no doubt that food was being recycled instead of old food being disposed of.

11.General standard of the pool area was unacceptable i.e. mould around pool, broken slabs, broken furniture, long grass etc. Some guests had to prop their sunbeds up with chairs!!

12.On only one occasion did we see maintenance remove leaves, insects etc from the pool. When we complained to our rep we saw in the book that at least 4 people had complained of ear infections, which is normally associated with poor pool hygiene. One guest told us she had complained on a number of occasions about the state of the pool to which she was brushed aside.

13.The roots of trees around the grounds were raising the slabs causing a potential health and safety hazard.

14.Plastic cups available for drinks around the pool area were dirty. Drinking straws were used to avoid contact with the lip of the cup.

15.The area around the very small stage was overgrown with grass making it almost impossible to sit in the vicinity to watch the shows, of which there were very few and of very poor quality.

16.Our rep told us to go to Villa di Mare (co-owned by the same person) because it had a “nicer pool and sunbeds”. We had to buy drinks at the Villa di Mare so that we could use their facilities. We felt it was better to buy drinks from the Villa di Mare as at least the crockery/glasses were clean.

Room Tip: Don't stay at the Solemat Hotel

Me and my partner stayed here for our first ever romantic holiday abroad at the end of September 2011!

On arrival we were so happy with our choice of hotel, in comparison to the many the coach had already stopped at. The location was Amazing, 2 minutes from the sea and sand, shops and bars. Plenty of entertainment around and food and drink.

We did an all inclusive which turned out to be a great money saver. Good variety of food every evening and breakfast was fit for a King, lol! The hotel even provide you with a pack lunch of sandwiches, cake and fruit with bottled water, but you have to tell the receptionist a day in advance if you will be taking out.

Bus stop right outside which takes you direct into Rhodes(Rhodos) which was fab, you must go to Old Town, Wow!

My only fault with the hotel was that the en suite in our room was fit for a family of ants,Haha it was tiny! The shower did not have the space we wanted, so unfortunately no romance took place there! ;)
The best thing about the room was the breath taking spectacular view of the ocean!

I recommend this to couples, families and anyone looking for a great fun packed holiday!

Enjoy and hope I've been helpful.

We stayed in one of the apartments with the hotel. My and two friends shared the accommodation, two beds and a sofa were on offer. The sofa was okay but hard. Had there been four or us the other fold out chair would not have been appropriate and was very uncomfortable to sit on let along sleep on.The bedding was apparently changed daily, but was not and the towels were changed every three days. With three of us sharing and showing daily this was inadequate, we were not provided with a bath towel until the third day The shower had a small drain in the middle of the floor and was swimming with water every time you have a shower, very dangerous when so many of us were using the shower. There was a hole in the wall behind the toilet stuffed with straw and contained loose wires. The shower, if turned on too high or quickly shot up and got water everywhere.

The all inclusive food was often cold and re-used; It was normal to find last nights dinner on the lunch menu dressed up as something new. There was spaghetti bolognaise on the menu every single day, which reduced your food choice further to two meals. The menu was not rotated very often and we soon found ourselves facing the same meal choice as a few nights previous There are two bars in the hotel, but those all inclusive are only allowed to use the back bar, reducing you to some form of second class citizen and offering a poor choice of variety.

The entertainment team were lovely and made the holiday a lot more enjoyable, however the manager was inconsiderate and miserable, complained about the entertainment being inside and often told them to turn the music down during the night, prior to 11, that's if the entertainment was allowed to run until then. The hotel is run-down and dirty. The outside stage seating area is on grass and guests did not like sitting outside due tot he swarms of bugs and mosquitoes coming from the grass, despite being told that the grass area had been sprayed.

The swimming pool was full of bugs on the first few days and several complaints were made about its cleanliness. The water level was too low and not flowing over the top of the drains leading to a build up of the bugs. The pool was eventually cleaned after several days, although guests were accused of lying and a lot of hassle had to be made. During the second week whilst taking part in a water aerobics class the event staff cut her foot open on loose tiles on the bottom of the pool. The pool was not shut down and cleaner, despite there being blood in the pool and it was left to guests to take the broken tiles out of the pool. The railings going into the pool were sharp and you had to be careful using them.

My advice, don't pick this hotel, spend a bit more to stay somewhere nice, where you wont get a funny tummy from the food and where you wont injure yourselves by the run down furnishings.

Room Tip: A Room in another hotel would be the best.
