“Good location - shame about the food!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

The majority are usually right - after having read other reviews I agree -reasonable hotel in need of upgrade in good location for the old town but oh dear the food!

Good points:
Good location overlooking the beach
10 minutes walk to Rhodes town new part or 15 minutes to the old town
Close enough to be convenient but far enough away to avoid the noise of the new town area at night
Good sized pool
Rooms and hotel immaculately clean
Staff excellent
Constant sea breeze

Bad points
Road between the hotel and beach - not an issue for us but constant traffic noise until early hours of the morning may be an issue for some
Not the cleanest of beaches but seen worse!
Far too few parasols - need to be at the pool for 8.00 to 8.30 otherwise in the sun all day. Not good enough for a hotel with 212 rooms and only around 20 parasols its unforgivable. I go on holiday to relax not be getting up early to reserve a parasol and sun longer.
Nice sea and pool views from front and side - rear rooms face hillside with semi derelict buildings.
Worst aspect is the food - genuinely motorway service station standard (despite what some other reviewers have said!) and given the excellent quality and value for money of the food in most of the restaurants in the area it's unforgivable to provide this quality of food! my tip - don't book anything more than breakfast and visit some of the great value restaurants in the old and new town.
Rooms good sized but fittings are dated particularly bathrooms that are probably 20+ years old.
Annoying issue are the balconies on the rooms facing the sea - no privacy screens so the whole floor have the chance to get to know each other really well whether they want to or not!
Annoying issue number 2! - if you book through Thomas Cook as we did be prepared to be advised on arrival in Rhodes that there is no representative at the hotel or guide book (hope you are not planning on booking any excursions or seeking advice from a rep.!

In summary spent a good week in Rhodes last month -wouldn't go back to the hotel -it's ok and staff are great but too many issues let it down.

Room Tip: Don't choose rear facing -you'll have a view of a hillside and semi derelict buildings!

Hotel was clean and nice, everything I expected. I appreciated the fact that cost for a late check out was very reasonable (15 EUR) and although we were on the first floor looking at a busy highway (and the sea) there was no noise with closed windows.

Room Tip: take the sea view, don t be afraid of the road passing by, it wont be noisy

i have been to this hotel in july 2014, i can complain about 1 thing, clean bedding, towels everyday. evening entertainment on monday, wednesdays and greek nite friday night. all the staff are friendly, welcoming and will go the extra mile. 2 staff stood out massively tsmapika and iwona. very chatty, always smile, i am looking forward to returning back to the hotel in the near future. book through olympic holidays totally brilliant and has a holiday rep called mark come for welcome meetings, The hotel has its own min supermarket, bar very cheap for drinks all day long.

Room Tip: ask for pool view

This hotel is pretty bad. Probably one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in for a number of reasons:

- Our room overlooked a busy road. It is also extremely windy so I didn't sleep well most nights due to the noise.
- The hotel is so dated. Think 1970's without the update. Like being stuck in a time warp. Room extremely basic and bathroom like a relic from the past, all brown tiles and too dark.
- Food was average to below average
- The other people staying there seemed mostly to be Russians. Dinner times were like a piranha feeding frenzy in a tank. Nobody queued, it was like every man for himself with people hoarding entire trays of food to their tables. Dreadful greed and rudeness with people pushing past you to get to the food first.
- The dining staff were rude and strict. We moved tables to get out of the sun (it was often baking hot in the dining room) and one member of staff barked at me implying I was trying to steal the bottle of water as I brought it with me to the next table. Another ordered my friend to go and change because she had been swimming and got dressed before showering (she was very clean and had showed before her swim, the staff member treated her like a naughty teenager when she is a professional woman).
- Checkout was early at 10am. They allowed us to 'check out late at midday' then we had to wait til 8am the next morning for our flight. By this time I was nearly vomiting from the lack of sleep. Checkout should be extended for late flights like that.
- At least 30-40 mins walk from the main old town bit.
- The beach it looks onto was mostly unusable as the wind is constantly super high so you have to walk 30 mins to get to the calm side of the island where the winds are virtually non-existent.

Overall I'd describe it as a hotel that is weirdly stuck in 1972, in massive need of updating, with shabby dated rooms, overly strict staff, unpleasant guests and average food. It is manageable for a week's cheap sun holiday but I would never stay here in again.

Judging by the rooms alone four stars is quite a stretch, as they are worn and the bathrooms are cramped. They are however clean and functional, and on the seaside the view from the balcony is great. Location is very good with walking distance to both Old Town and the city centre with lots of restaurants, also quite nice ones close by on the beach. Closest beach is just across the street via an underpass. The best quality of the hotel however was the staff and the very friendly service throughout. This is the first hotel I've ever been where I have been kissed goodbye by the breakfast waitresses. We were very happy with our stay.
One feature to be aware of is that there is entertainment 3 nights a week, which translates to some noise to the poolside rooms if the balcony door is open - especially karaoke night can be somewhat painful. But even that wasn't really too bad, and ended always by 11 pm., so as said overall a very good choice of a hotel.

We stopped here for 11 nights.Got to say it's the worst hotel we have stayed in.We did pay to have a sea view room, the Sunset is unforgettable but there is a lot of road noise,as it is a busy main road. Not for light sleepers. Our room, where do I start. There were cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, you had to step over them,or catch your feet. There was carpet in the room/corridor which was very dirty/stained/mucky.This could have been cleaned properly during Winter months.Balcony floor & table & chairs.well over 12months since they were cleaned.I could go on & on listing.Variety of food was very poor.it was what you would get 30 or 40 years ago when people started going abroard.Table cloths not cleaned every day,Same food stains on them for days.not enough parasols or sunbeds. Some sunbeds had bits of metal sticking up on them. Not good.I could go on & on listing things but I will leave it there. Please do not expect a 4* if you stay here,But overall Rhodes Town is a great place to stay. But please pick another Hotel.

+side- staff were all friendly and helpful on the minus side - on a very busy road
desperately in need of updating , supposed to be 3* but felt like a 1*
the eggs, bacon and sausages at breakfast was always cold
would not recommend this hotel

Room Tip: top floor and not a sea view because of the road noise
