“Nice hotel, but......”
Reviewed 29 September 2012

We stayed at the Nathalie in August/Septembet 2011. The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and the staff were all wonderful - very helpful and friendly. Food was the usual breakfast choice, and we only ate in the restaurant once - which was ok. Downside was the very small balcony, also the balcony furniture was small and uncomfortable. Set in a residential area, the Nathalie was quiet - yet the surrounding streets were absolutely full of dog poo! You had to tread very carefully - especially when venturing out in the evenings! Busy main road to cross if you wanted to go to the beach, but a short bus/taxi ride into Rhodes town - of which the Old Town is lovely.

Room Tip: Quiet location, rooms overlooking the pool get the sun for most of the day.

My daughter and I have just returned after a week at the Nathalie. It was very inexpensive so we didn't have high expectations. In the event it was just lovely! Beautiful gardens, nice decor, good breakfast and the staff are some of the most helpful I've ever met. With work I travel extensively all over the world and stay in very expensive and exotic hotels but most of them can't hold a candle to this little gem. Great.

Room Tip: If you have limited mobility (or a pram with you as we did) it would be wise to ask for a first floo...

What a wonderful little hotel. Stayed here for a week in September. Not much more to add that others have said...

Rooms: Basic but spotless. There are 3 floors; we were on the top. We had a side pool view (we emailed ahead & requested top floor pool view). I think all the rooms had a pretty decent view (maybe the front facing ones not so much, but they appeared to have larger balconies?). I think there are around 60 rooms in all.

Breakfast: No complaints at all; all the usual cold cheeses & meats, yogurt, fresh & tinned fruit, lovely berry compote too, also alternate days there was a hot choice in addition. The pastries were always very fresh. Help yourself to everything. The dining room was very pleasant, especially the outside area. As others have said they also do an evenning meal, which smelt lovely - although we did not have it ourselves.

Pool area: Lovely spot with plentiful loungers - spend 2 full days here relaxing. Very reasonable bar prices (& snacks) at the pool bar.

In addition: The whole Hotel had an eye for detail - very attractive. The staff were all lovley. Made a point of coming to say hello at breakfast every day & also the Reception and cleaning staff were very friendly.

Area: Ixia is not terribly attractive. Yes there is a beach a couple of minutes away. A few shops & resteraunts nearby which on the whole were quite good. Best to catch the local bus into Rhodes old town for some lovely sightseeing & great harbour & atmosphere. Buses very cheap & run every 15 mins til midnight.

Other areas: Lindos is beautiful. Lovely calm sea in a pretty bay. Warm water. We went by boat, but you can get a bus there too. It is on the East coast so less windy & the beach is sandy. Ixia & everywhere on the West coast in pebbly & the sea is quite rough...

Overall can recommend this lovely freindly Hotel :)

Room Tip: No lift, so if you have mobility problems opt for ground floor room

The Nathalie Hotel is excellent. The compliments of the reviewers are true. We stayed the first 2 weeks in September and have been twice before. There are so many people who return year after year. The hotel staff are so friendly and Emma and Maria will see to all your needs. The Hotel is named after the patron's daughter but lots of people call his wife Nathalie, but her real name is Lisa and both work in the hotel and are welcoming and helpful.
Since we knew the routine we cancelled our coach transfer and went straight for a taxi from the airport. Our journey from Plymouth had been tiring enough. For 18 euro we saved about 2h coach 'journey' time and didn't have to pull our luggage up the road (we could have hired a car at the airport ~25 euro/day, a friend got one for 21 euro, but he could speak Greek). Then it was straight up the stairs to a top room with hillside views (photo) looking towards the escarpment. Sure the first time up the stairs with the cases is a bit difficult (I am over 70) but for me it is worth it, there is no noise up there, a nice cooling breeze, sunrise or sunset and at night the stars without the light glow from the town.
What makes this hotel for us is the covered (bougainvillea, vine) garden (photo) courtyard where you can have breakfast, drinks, coffee, chat, and easy to integrate if you want.
I like swimming (pool area is fine, water temp 29C), my wife likes the Old Town and we went into Rhodes every day. At the bus stop we usually got a taxi (actually which ever came first, no real wait, perhaps ~10 min) as they charge (2 euro each) which is just less than the bus price (you just get 2 others at the bus stop to join you).
There is so much to see and do in Rhodes. I liked the Acropolis region and museum, especially the open air top floor, with shade and trees (for >65 year olds you can usually get in cheaper in museums etc if you show a copy sheet of your passport). Amongst much more I learnt what an omphalis (something like that) was. I would then walk along the front/promenade, have an ice cream and a swim/snorkel on Rhodes town beach down by the Casino/Aquarium. It's easy getting in the water (29C) but for very oldies a bit tricky getting out as steep shingle at the edge (no real problem as you can always sit down and get out). We did boat trips to the islands Symi (amazing only 15 euro, 20km, 80 min) on the Nicolaous X and to Tilos (28 euro, 60km, 90 min) on the fast catamaran, Sea Star both great scenic / cultural / historical / bird watching excursions.
It's easy from Rhodes bus centre to get another bus to the famous Kallithea 'medicinal' springs. We found the adjacent bay, or Beaches, cheaper, quieter, easy swimming/snorkelling (29C), changing huts, showers, sunbeds etc with taverna, more to our taste. It's easy to get the bus (or boat) from Rhodes to Lindos (but a lot of steps to the acropolis) or a bus to the end of the Island, Prasonisi, seeing half the Island on the way. One snag with the evening bus back from Rhodes to Avra Beach (stop for Nathalie) is that it might appear to be full, but they will get you on somehow, so it's not possible to fall over, quite fun after a bit.
Then there is Filerimos (temple, ancient Ialysos), Petaloudses (butterflies), Ancient Kameiros, Seven Springs. You will need to go again.
Evening meals are easy at the Hotel, but for a change the Napoli down the road and to the right is good and popular. There is also the Aegean Fish ~1km in the other direction, where you choose your fish and they cook it for you. The Prospori is reasonably priced with everything imaginable.

Stayed here for two weeks this summer with my boyfriend. It was very clean and cosy. The staff were very friendly. A yummy breakfast, beautiful pool and a overall lovely atmosphere. All the little touches such as candles at night, the terraced garden and pebbles made it a gem of a hotel. I had a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: We were in room 306 and this caught the sun in the mornings, overlooking the mountains. Perfect spot...

For nine years we went to the same hotel in Ixia (Pines Tree's) which is now sadly closed. We've not been back to Ixia/Rhodes for 3yrs and wanted to stay in another hotel that was small and friendly and this looked like it would be. Our expectations were met pretty much from when we arrived with a lovely warm welcome from Maria and continued with the rest of the staff. There was also a nice Scottish lady working behind the pool bar who turned out to be the owner!

We stayed in room 101 which is at the back and overlooks a nice house and gardens. It's balcony is a good size and from the side you can look down to the pool. The bathroom is a bit cramped with the shower curtain almost permanently stuck to you while you try and avoid the soap dish with your elbow. or not. We also got room 110 for between checking out and leaving which is on the side away from the pool but had a much nicer bathroom. The balconies on the side are wide and narrow while at the back they are deep but not as wide - I prefer the latter as I can stretch my legs out better. So the bathroom from 110 in 101 would be ideal!

The pool bar does some lovely food with two/three specials each day including some great salads. All at a good price as well.

There was a great selection for Breakfast with some hot food every other day - look out for the wonderful bacon which had lots of nice crispy rashers as well as non crispy.

The bar is open from 6pm (the pool bar closes at 4pm so there is a 2hr "no bar" period) which was staffed by the very nice Agnes (I think that was her name - I never asked which was poor) who does a very good Mojito according to Jane.

Possibly the only down side to the hotel is actually more the tour operators fault in that the coaches can't get down the road outside the hotel so your dropped off on the main road with a general wave of the direction to head by the coach driver. You then have to walk the last 350yds along a not very flat road that's slightly uphill - not ideal. You then have to go back and wait by the road to be collected - although the tour rep does stop the traffic so you can get across. Next year we think we will get a taxi.

All in all this a great, wonderful, friendly hotel that we can wholeheartedly recommend.

The hotel is located in the resort of the island, in the countryside. Decorated in the traditional Greek style. There is a pool. You need to go to the beach about 15 minutes. Near the hotel you can find two real supermarkets. Not far to go to the mountain Filerymas. Buses from the airport and Rhodes City stop in 5 minutes. Room is equipped well. For air conditioning and fan you have to pay separately (we did not need). Quiet street. The bathroom has soap, shampoo, shower gel (but not renewed). Breakfast is very good (including fruits, various yogurts, warm meals, but juices of chemical concentrates). In the evening you can eat on the spot. There were no problems with communication with the staff in English. There is a separate room for baggage storage, a guest toilet and shower (you can ask for a towel).
- No elevator. Have to pay for the fan in the room. No TV in the room (there is one near the hotel bar). WiFi only works near reception (do not need any code). There is a computer with Internet access for 2 euro. Soap, shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom was only for one person (added after the request).
