Enjoyed this hotel stayed in may going back in August. The bar man during the day is great helpfull and cheerful. Not to far from the bars and shops near Rhodes town in a good location. The restaurant needs to have air con on and tables set more quickly. The only spirits you can drink are the ouzo and brandy other wise the cheap 30per cent proof spirits spoil the cocktails. The hotel reception staff are great and are always helpful. The staff in general are friendly most of the time need to smile a little more. We really enjoyed our stay the animation team are great lots of professional shows as well as the norm comedy shows and games. The air con works well rooms are basic mostly kept nice and clean The public relations lady is lovely always around checking if everything is ok taking pictures would live to come back again

We have returned from a 10 stay in Ixia at The Avra Beach Hotel/Bungalows.

Generally we found the previous good reviews about right. While this is not a four star hotel (more like a good 3), it is a well run, clean & friendly hotel and anyone going here will have a great stay.

Rooms;
We had a standard room. They were fairly basic, quite small inside but adequate. They were very cleaned regularly and to a high standard. We did find them to be quite noisy at times with other guests in the corridors at night, or moving the furniture on the floor above as well as the road,. We kept the AC on low throughout the night and used the blankets. The beds were fine.

Food;
A first time on all inclusive for us - we have always been put off by the poor quality food in mainly Spanish hotels that we usually go self catering. In this case the food reviews encouraged us to cautiously try AI, but we fully expected to end up eating out if it turned out to be poor. We never ate out once. The food was of good quality, plentiful supply and varied throughout the week. Our only comment would be it would have been nice to see more fresh fish and Greek style dishes. The snack bar was a vegetarian type pastry which was ok, ham and cheese rolls, also ok, and a pizza type thing which we didn't like. Ice cream was on offer all day but it was not dairy ice cream, rather this oil based cheap stuff so we didn't really eat any of that but the kids there seemed to like it.

Drinks
The beer is ok, you get used to it, the wine at mealtimes was surprisingly drinkable. The cocktails at the bar seem to be very popular. All the spirits are local stuff and apart from the G&T we didn't try any. There is proper Pepsi served at the bar.

Hotel facilities
The hotel lets itself down on the lack of sunbeds. There is enough room to put more in if they wanted to but they don't, so as usual there's the 6-7.30 am brigade out reserving beds. I also noticed so many people mentioning this in their reviews but whenever the hotel responds to a review they never make any mention to the sunbed issue. When are hotels going to stop ignoring their guests and address this?? This year we refused to join in on this and as a result we never got a bed. We simply grabbed a couple of the tables by the pool and set up camp there along with our towels on the ground.

The pool was very nice, clean and large enough. It never felt very crowded.

The beach is not especially attractive with the lack of sand and just a concrete deck, but the pebbles do stop after only a couple of metres and the water is lovely and warm.

The other facilities inside the hotel are fairly basic but don't let that put you off, it is a good hotel. I would have liked a gym to try and keep control of the extra calories consumed though!

Resort
The immediate "resort" outside we found to be a bit of a let down. It is just a busy and treacherous road to cross (the main road to the airport and Rhodes Town) and once you have crossed it you will only find a series of restaurants desperate for your trade, slowly being killed by the All Inclusive hotels, along with shops selling the same stuff. There is a couple of larger supermarkets within 5 minutes walk. The resort is both very noisy and quite dirty. Get on the bus to Rhodes Town (about 10 minutes, 2.20 euros each way) which is beautiful. Beware though it's a total tourist trap.

Staff
Excellent. Cleaners, reception, restaurant, bar staff all very helpful, very friendly and a real asset to this hotel. They were all great.

Animation Team
Quite a funny bunch. They have a good team here with Arto the Albanian in charge, A dutch and Swedish girl and English Chris. Again, all hard working and are a real asset to the hotel. The Management have certainly got it right by employing this Animation Team.

Other Guests
We found a nice and balanced mix of English, French, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Russian, German, Polish & some Slovakian. There was no particular majority nationality and this made for quite a pleasant atmosphere. The Russians didn't seem to be as friendly but that may be due to the language barrier.

Summary
If you want a great hotel with good food go ahead and book this hotel. You will have a good holiday. The resort outside is not too great but get out further and explore all the island has to offer.

Plus:
Official photos capture reality well (thus also no photos from me)
Good location - directly on beach, no walking, no roads to cross; close to Rhodes (bus stop opposite, service "every 15mins" (on average though ;-) )
"Spacious" - well designed and laid out - never had a cramped feeling
Clean - rooms, premises, pool, dining hall
Superb service - reception desk staff, waiters, beach bar bartenders, animators; cleaning staff nice and smiley but sometimes little sloppy)

Good food and drinks
Dining hall - sitting inside and outside (with some shading though); the all-inclusive package is nice, food is varying and reasonable (even though fish, desserts and yoghurt never touched the greek style)
Beach bar great - water, soft drinks, some snacks available "selfservice" 10-24 - great for kids; guys behind bar great (esp. Kiriakos) smiling all the day

To consider:
There is mild to stronger wind blowing most of the time - area around is named (wind)surfers paradise ... it is not unbearably hot thanks to this, but most of the time there are wawes, smaller to bigger (but nice all the time).
There really is not a sandy beach to play on - sunbeds "next to sea" ar on pebbles, then you descend (some of) the stairs and you enter the sea, there are pebbles and fine sand - water starting out shallow (safe) and clouded - fine sand getting disturbed all the time by the wawes produced by the nonstop wind; not much to see for those snorkeling etc.
Farther out to the sea there are some patches of seagrass where even some turtles appear

Some "cons" (but limited only):
- as usually number of sunbeds can never suffice but still place not overcrowded
- "public" toilets near the dining hall (next to pool and beach) the only choice when out and thus ... not really clean (expand and/or clean more frequently - people go there wet ...)

Room Tip: Family rooms in bungalows are (I guess) much better than the smaller ones in the main building (we stayed in the bungalows ...). The higher number of the room, the better, i.e. blocks of bungalows probably start (I guess)with numbers 6xx going to 10xx, while the prefix is block (rising toward sea), xx0x is ground floor (maybe cooler), xx1x is first floor (better view but heated up by the sun).

My boyfriend and I have just returned home after a lovely week at Avra Beach Resort Hotel in August. We both had such an amazing holiday and were very sad to leave. When arriving at the hotel we were greeted by the receptionist who were very helpful throughout the week. Our room was very nice with a lovely sea view from the balcony and an overall comfortable room that was cleaned daily. However I do recommend that if you have trouble sleeping bring some earplugs as the fridge was very noisy. The hotel staff were very friendly and worked very hard to give you a wonderful holiday. The Animation team worked very hard, constantly entertaining the guests with such games as Water polo, football, Volley Ball, Darts and a water gym. They worked so well with the children and can not recommend this hotel enough to families. The food was also delicious with great variety of different foods to choose throughout the day. The cocktails were also lovely and enjoyed drinking them in the evening while looking out to sea. The pool area and beach was also very enjoyable and had a great time swimming in both the pool and the sea. However there were no sunbeds as we heard some guests reserving them at 5:30 in the morning. We definitely think the hotel should sort this problem out as it is not fair but we just walked into ixia which took about ten minutes and hired a sun bed on the main beach which was only 4 Euros for the whole day and enjoyed this very much. We also went on two excursions, but we felt our travel company was too expensive so we went with sigma travel which was a lot cheaper and is right next to the hotel. One was Lindos which was a lovely day, where we went on a boat trip to Lindos and then spent the day there where you could go on the beach or to the castle by foot or donkey. However there is not much in lindos and is a long boat trip just for a few hours and as it was August it was very hot and became uncomfortable. The second was the Waterpark. We throughly enjoyed this day and we would love to go back as it is an amazing place and definitely recommend it as it is lots of fun. We also had a day out in Rhodes town that we arranged ourselves. We went on the bus that is just outside the hotel and can get a ticket for just 2 Euros.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and were very sad to leave but we will be returning to this lovely hotel and definitely recommend it to anyone espically families.

We have just returned from a week at the avra beach hotel. As my first time in Rhodes I found it was a brill location if you wanted to travel around or right on the beach if you wanted to laze about. The beach is a shingle beach but it doesn't effect anything the water is beautifully clear and warm no big waves so perfect for kids and inflatables too. The hotel itself isn't 5* luxury but its so fresh and clean, and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The staff are so friendly and helpful, very polite and speak very good English. The animation team are lovely getting everyone who wants to involved in fun activities reguardless of age/sex/language spoken! We got on very well with chris he's a fun friendly typical English bloke who is always happy and goes out of his way to advise on local restaurants and bars or trips round the island. He will not only get you involved in the group activities but he will go out of his way for a chat to get to know you on a personal level. And doesnt make you feel pressured to do anything. Our room was basic but very clean which is just what you need as we didn't spend much time there anyway. The food was a bit repetitive but as it has to cater for everyone there is always something yummy to have. The bar staff are brilliant and work non stop. They will whip up a fruity cocktail no probs! We found this hotel had a good mix of couples, old, young and families, aswell as people from all different countries. We found the hotel to be very laid back and no pressure which we have had in previous hotels. Don't hesitate this hotel is a must!! Some people who have wrote bad reviews on this hotel must be seriously picky and don't know how to enjoy themselves as we had zero problems. We LOVED IT!!!

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a bungalow. But the standard rooms are still lovely.
