“Did its job”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2007

This is an aparthotel, only a couple of minutes from the excellent beach, and surrounded by the many bars, restaurants and shops of the new town.

We had an apartment, so there was a very small kitchen area with kettle, electric hobs and fridge. However, it was pretty greasy and the size makes it OK for making a salad or sandwiches, but not much else. There was enough cutlery and crockery for the two of us.

The air conditioning was not on for 24 hours during our stay, but thankfully we didn't need it as Rhodes in October is a little milder than the height of summer. Note that you can't have it on if you are out of the room as you have to put your room key in the slot to get electricity.

The bed was comfy enough, and the bathroom had lots of towels and hot water. There was a good size balcony with table and chairs.

There is a swimming pool which is a decent size, and a good bar in the hotel, too. But such is the choice of food and drink nearby, we rarely used it.

The location is very good, but we were above the main entrance, facing the nightlife and you do get some noise at night. But that's the downside of having lots to do close to you!

Rhodes Town is a very good resort, and this was a decent place to stay.

The hotel Athena is a good priced basic hotel in a great location 5 mins from beach and almost on top of lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. We had 2 rooms both were clean, towels changed whenever you left them on the floor and beds changed twice a week. Reception were very helpful, even finding a kettle for us as I thought they were provided in the rooms. Kettles are usually only for apartments. Fridge provided. Showers were nice and hot. Small balcony overlooking other hotels. Breakfast were basic, cereal (like cardboard), toast, croissants, eggs, bacon sausage and beans, greek yogurt and fruit. Could have done with more variety. There is a small pool area that is nice but is shady for most of the day. We preferred the beach although my teenagers did prefer the pool. There is lots to do in Rhodes Town and so many shops! Old Town is lovely with lots of history as well as tourist areas.

I stayed here with my 17 year old daughter. The room was clean, we only stayed a week and the bed linen was changed again mid-week. Towels changed daily. We had a fridge, which was really useful, the room was air conditioned, definitely need that in the summer! You can hear some noise in the evenings, with being close to the bars, but hotel has upvc windows so not too bad. Decent size balcony. The breakfasts were simple, eggs, bacon, feta cheese and cereals, toast etc, could do with more fresh fruit. The beach was just across the road, very close to all amenities, 10 minute walk to old town which is exquisite. The greek people are very nice and not 'pushy' as in some countries. We loved it and will definitely stay there again. Its a thumbs up for us.

When we arrived we were told that we didn't have a room. We weren't the only ones that the hotel had forgotten, about 10 others didn't have a room. After waiting for an hour (about 130 persons came with the same flight to the hotel and we had to wait for them to check-in) we got a room.

We had booked a hotel room with breakfast but we got an appartment. After checking that the breakfast was still included to the price we were happy. My parents had own bedroom and I slept in the livingrooms sofa. They hadn't prepared the room for three persons and for the firs night I slept without sheets (we got the room about 12 o'clock at night-time). The mattresses were hard but I guess that's the Greek way.

The appartment had a small fridge and two hot plates. The kitchen equipment was enough for three people. The appartment was spacious and clean. We had a big balcony, where you could see a bit of ocean. There is an another hotel next to Athena and so from the balcony you see the other hotel balconys. The distance between is about 6meters.

The pool wasn't heated which isn't a problem in the summer but in the beginning of May it was nicer to swim in the ocean than in the cold pool. The sun chairs were wonderful but there was about 15 chairs. The pool area isn't big but the pool is good for swimming.

The buffee breakfast had bacon, fried eggs, little sausages, boiled eggs, bread, cheese, ham, feta and occasionally cucumber and tomatoes. You could also have quark, stawberry or natural with melted chocolate (it was a bit strange). All in all breafast was okay.

Our rooms was in the fifth floor and you could hear some music in to the room but it didn't disturbe us. I think that most of the nearby bar streets bars weren't open yet, so we had peacefull nights. One night I woke up because of the other hotels guest. Four boys were drinking and celebrating in their balcony and that you could hear very well.

The hotel was nice and we had, after the problems in the beginning, a good holiday. Hotel isn't so far away from the town center and there were cheaper shops nearby our hotel than in the center.

We stayed at the Athena Apartments May 10-17 2006. we were given a fantastic welcome, The apartments are fully air-conditioned and everything is new. The food in the hotel restaurant and at the pool bar is excellent. The owner Socrates, is quite a character and well worth meeting, his sons Pericles & Theo work at the hotel along with the very entertaining manager Alex, who also works in Socrates bar at night, they are all lovely and very genuine people. (our new family) It is a 10 – 15 min walk into the village; you need to be fit to walk back up the hill. There is a free bus during the day or can take a taxi from the square to the hotel for 4 Euro. Loved it there and can't wait to go back.
