“Great Location - Nice Small Hotel with friendly owner!”
Reviewed 30 May 2009

This was our third visit to Rhodes and to celebrate my 65th birthday we wanted to stay within Rhodes Old Town to soak up the atmosphere of this lovely place! The owner Michalis was very helpful from the start - when our taxi driver from the airport refused to enter the old town and dropped us at the wrong gate Michalis quickly responded to my 'phone call and picked us up within a few minutes! This was the start of a very enjoyable stay and although breakfast was the same every day we found that the freshness of all that we were given meant that we enjoyed every meal! The room although fairly basic was very comfortable with a terrific view of the old town from our window and the roof of the hotel provided somewhere to sit and also more photo opportunities. This was by far the best place that we have stayed on Rhodes and should we return in the future we would not consider staying anywhere else! We would also like to recommend the Island Lipsi Restaurant (18 Agisandrou, Old Town Rhodes) this is located in the first road after Street of the Knights when walking into Rhodes Old Town and you will receive a warm "Welcome" from Niki and her staff - it is a five minute walk from the hotel (not related to hotel in any way)

We had stayed at this property years before but the difference this time was night and day. For a start, on arrival the manager spent over 30 minutes trying to persuade us to take an upgraded room over the one we originally booked. We were already extremely tired and hungry, and this immediate struggle just to claim what we had already requested was just the beginning of a downhill spiral. It tuned out there was no room left at the promised price, so we were forced to take the considerably more pricey 'upgrade'.
A few days later it turned out their credit card machine was not working, so we were forced to change reserve money and pay for our stay in advance. Very insulting. Whatever happened to customer service ?
This place is quaint from the outside but has almost no amenities, inc. no internet. The 'breakfast' is a bad joke. Also, don't come equipped with heavy luggage, as no-one will help you haul it up the steep stairs to the office. And forget about finding a cab back to the airport: cabbies will not be interested in manoevering the cobblestone streets of olde Rhodes to pick you up from this remote location.

We arrived with no where to stay, found a card for this place, rocked up and was given a great room at a reasonable price. The location was wonderful in the old city and there were great views from the top of the building. We even spent one day just relaxing in the sun, reading and enjoying the view. There are some excellent restaurants in the area and all the main sights are close at hand. Definately recommended.

Staying at Niki’s provided an excellent experience. We had a double room on the corner with great views (and provided a nice breeze on a warm fall day). The room was good sized, clean, and quiet. Michalis, the owner, is extremely helpful – offering recommendations, maps, and whatever else you may need (as is his whole staff). He personally prepares your breakfast in the morning and delivers it to the seating area with a warm smile. Breakfast itself was great. Coffee, juice, eggs, bread, cheese, cakes, and more. The hotel has a terrace with a beautiful view. It’s a bit tricky to get to (steep attic-like stairs), but totally worth the .climb.’ I highly recommend Niki’s Hotel!

We really enjoyed our stay at Niki. Where most of the resorty hi-rise hotels are stuck at the crowded beach end of the island, Niki's is located in the middle of the old town inside the city walls which made it a great base for exploring (Rhodes old town is a maze of ancient alleyways and beautiful old buildings) and there was a great restaurant virtually next door (where complimentary ouzo shots are the norm). Our room had really good airconditioning as well as a fan and lots of natural light...there was some english language TV too. The breakfast was also good and was served in the hotels little courtyard area (they also have a rooftop terrace where you can take stunning photos of the old city).

Niki's owners were really nice people for whom nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Niki's may not be the most upmarket hotel and it may not have a pool, but it is a really neat place that we genuinely felt sad leaving. All in all it was great value for money and a great experience
