We had visited all the major Greek islands several times over the last 10 years or so but we hadn't done Rhodes until now. After we had booked the holiday we looked at a number of reviews of the Parasun and some of them filled us with trepidation. A lot of what people have said turned out to be true, in that there was no entertainment in the evenings (we had booked especially believing this was the case so we were a little disappointed), the accommodation was extremely basic even for Greece, sun beds were in a poor state of repair, dogs barking all day and night (though we didn't actually find that a problem) and the bar closed early even when there were still customers about. However, if you want top quality accommodation then you simply don't go to Greece - you pay a lot more and go elsewhere - so we took all this in our stride and made the most of it all. It was perfectly adequate, and there were positives such as the lovely pool. The main road is incredibly busy and it was difficult to cross at any time of today, but to do so is a must in order to get to the beach and to the many bars and Tavernas in the main resort. We went to the beach once and didn't stay - it is very pebbly and not suitable for anything other than lying on a sunbed - if you have kids don't go to Ixia. One of the reasons we go to Greece time and time again is because of the great food, and we did find a number of Tavernas that were very good, but the service was generally not what we expected from Greeks, and it seemed that chips with everything was the norm, rather than the lovely Greek potatoes. However, there were a few little gems and Mr Greek is well worth a visit - we went there 4 times in two weeks and had great food, great service and even free wine and puddings - George the owner is very attentive and typifies the Greece we know and love. We found only one bar in the whole resort that had any kind of entertainment on in the evenings, which was another disappointment given the lack of anything going on at the Parasun, Another first for us in Greece was that we were hassled about a dozen times during our stay by people (Brits) trying to "give away" free scratchcards on a variety of pretexts - we were wise to this from a previous trip to Tenerife so didn't bite, and we later found out that they were trying to get you to buy a timeshare and if you had gone with them you would have wasted a whole day of your holiday being given the hard sell treatment - if anybody offers you a scratchcard for any reason tell them no. And finally on our last night we tried the nearest Taverna, Whispers, which was handy being so close as we had a flight to catch, and as it had received several good reviews from previous bloggers we thought we would pay it a visit. Big mistake - for the love of god don't go there - the food was not Greek style in the slightest and everything was out of a packet - given the large number of decent Tavernas about give this place a wide berth. In summary, even as seasoned Greece travellers we were a little disappointed by the apartments, the resort and Rhodes generally and won't be going back.

Room Tip: Room 1 is the only one with air conditioning. Don't hire a fan - it would be cheaper in the lon...

The studio - The Parasun is typical budget Greek accommodation. The rooms are basic but on the whole clean; the rooms are cleaned twice a week. I personally did not find it a problem to take you rubbish to the bins at the bottom of the road and most people staying at the Parasun did the same. You are provided with enough cutlery and crockery and there is an electric kettle, and a two hob electric cooker. As I am on holiday this was more than enough for making a coffee and the odd lunch - to be honest it is probably cheaper to eat out that it is to buy everything to cook in the apartment.
The pool area - was quiet during the first week but got busier when the schools broke up. It is surrounded by greenery which is useful for making sure you get shade (if you want it). The pool is clean but be careful - some of the tiles are slippery and non-swimmers could have a nastly shock if they slip on them. The plastic around the outside of the pool is also broken in places and at least one person cut their foot on this when walking around the pool - again just be careful. The big issue around the pool was the number of broken sun beds which really do need to be replaced.
Entertainment - there is none. The informaiton provided by Thomson states that there are quizzes, Greek nights etc. over the 14 nights we stayed there was no entertainment offered at all. The snack area is lovely, however, there seemed to be very little enthusiasm from the staff to cater. On one occasion I ordered beans on toast for lunch, this was made by Paras, and the beans were about half a tin (of a small tin) for five euros - not good value for money and the service from Paras was poor. Disinterested is the word I would use to describe both Paras and George.
The location - ideal as it is quiet but the main town is easily accessible, probably a 15 minute walk away. You have the option of turning left, crossing the busy road and walking down to the traffic lights where you turn right - you will find an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants as you walk down towards the sea. Alternatively, cross the busy road and walk down past the side of the garage for about 5 - 10 minutes and you will come out at the beach front - I personally preferred this walk as the road down towards the traffic lights is really busy; the main road to Rhodes Town.
Ixia ,in my opinion, is ok but my least favourite of all the Greek resorts I have stayed in and this was my 8th visit to various parts of Greece. For me it was over commercialised and very expensive e.g. a pint of mythos or bottle of mythos was 3.50 euros in many places - shorts cost 5 euros and bottles of wine were 12 euros in many place, half litre of poor house wine 7 euros. Good value for money for food was the Alikonas 1 'Sports Bar where the portion sizes are huge. Another recommendation to eat is Debbys which is a small bar/restaurant about a two minute walk from the Parasun (across the road). George who serves at Debbys is very friendly and not only that the food is outstanding and reasonably priced - give it a go, as it is so close to the accommodation some people seem to walk past it.
Out and about - Rhodes old town is a must - it costs 2.80 euros each way on the local bus. You purchase your tickets from the supermarket - turn right when you come to the main road and walk for about 2 minutes, You will need to buy 2 x singles one for the outward trip and one for the return. We intended to go to Lindos but the weather was so warm we gave it a miss, however, some people did make the trip and thoroughly recommended it.
All in all an enjoyable and very relaxing holiday - but not my favourite island or resort.

Fantastic holiday, exceptional service, central location bars and restraunts handy and reasonably priced! Just around the corner there is another hotel were we attended quiz and karaoke nights, great for a night away and to let your hair down.Rooms were basic but had everything you needed, beds were a little lumpy but not unbareable to sleep on, near by dogs barked but Paras sorted that issue quickly. Helen the cleaner was in every three days in our two week stay and she was friendly and very hard working, on the go all day. Paras and George were the most gracious hosts, we were a bit anxious when we read the reviews on here and found them to be nothing like they had been made out to be. Paras's relatives were over for a family wedding and all members of the family were extremely welcoming and helpful. Loved the holiday and the people! Other guests were cheerful and friendly, we had so much fun in the pool everyday, different activities to come up with, adults turned into big kids AMAZING PLACE. Would come back in a heart beat!

just back from staying at parasun for two weeks with a friend. The rooms are basic but bigger than i thought they would be. The first week of our holiday the pool was nice and quiet and easy to get a sun bed but by the second week it was a lot busier and ended up on crappy sunbeds, a lot of which were broken. The hotel is in the perfect location close to the beach and less than 5min away from a supermarket which was very handy.
George was very welcoming and makes great cocktails, definitaly worth a try, can't say the same for Paras though. After not even seeing her for the first few days my friend an i returned from a night out, which we were very quiet about to be spoken to by Paras like we were 12 years old and told us what we should and shouldn't be doing on OUR holiday. This annoyed my beyond belief as we are 20 years old and this was the one and only time that she spoke to us.

There are some great restaurants just along the road from the hotel and the food is very decently priced. There is a great trip shop just along the same road as well which we used instead of going through our travel agent and we found this to be much cheaper. Would definitly recommend going on the Jummpy Jeep safari, was brilliant and such a laugh.

We have just returned from Ixia after a weeks holiday staying at Para Sun Apartments, and we had a great time. Paras, George & family were very accommodating & friendly, and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are big but basic, however we only needed a bed and shower! The pool area was clean and tidy (admittedly some sun beds have seen better days), and the breakfasts were good too. George makes a great cocktail, so make sure you try one!

I'd definitely recommend getting a fan as it helped us sleep at night, as well as keeping the patio door open, as the rooms do not have A/C. The supermarket 2 mins down the road towards Rhodes has everything you need for snacks.

We found a great restaurant called Cactus, left out of the apartments on the main road, and right at the traffic lights after about a 10-15min walk, great home cooked Greek food, child friendly. We also liked Mr Greek, (another friendly George) good food, at reasonable prices, located on the seafront road. Bikini Bar was a lovely outside bar, with great cocktails, but never seemed to be very busy (bit pricey maybe!)

Do take the time to get the bus to visit Rhodes Old Town, beautiful town inside old city walls, lots to explore & plenty of souvenirs to be found.

I would thoroughly recommend Para Sun as a great place to stay for those who want a base to explore, friendly service & somewhere to relax after a hard day at the beach :)

We stayed here in July 2013 and to begin with we thought we had struck gold for such a bargain.

We were under no illusions of getting what we paid for and we certainly didn't expect a lot, but our room was fine - clean and convenient. We had no intentions of cooking there so weren't bothered about the facilities.

To begin with we though it was a great little find as it was small and a family run spot, and both Paras and George seemed lovely. We had to wait a couple of hours for our room but we had a drink at the bar and were happy enough.

After about the 3rd day the staff's attitude completely changed towards us for no reason at all. We had been no bother and had eaten breakfast there each morning (even though every day without fail they would serve us 2 teas and a coffee when we asked for 2 coffees and a tea). George completely blanked us and went from wandering over to us and sitting with us chatting to completely ignoring us. But it was Paras we found to be the rudest. For no reason at all she was vile to us. I asked for some marmalade with my toast as there was just jam, and she argued with me that they were all the same but just different flavours....needless to say I didn't get my marmalade!

She kept serving us tea instead of coffee in filthy cups and then seemed surprised when we didn't drink it. It got to the point where we would rather not complain than end up having to argue with her!

The only thing we can think of it being was the neighbours left us a fan to use rather than paying for one from Paras. That or the fact we spurned George's advances.

It's such a shame because we were having a lovely holiday and were happy enough with the accommodation, but George and Paras' attitudes and the way they spoke to us really ruined it for us.

On a side note, if you walk down to the beach (straight across the road from Para Sun) turn left at the bottom and follow the road round for around 5 mins you will find a lovely restaurant called Knights Of Olde. We went a few times, the staff are fantastic and service is brilliant.
