We stayed in Thalassa suite which overlooks the old town and the main harbon. Will never forget the colors of the sunshine. Very romantic place. The staff was kind and very friendly.

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel from July 6th to the 10th, in the Eros suite. The room is quite spacious, with a separate sitting area which has a pull out bed and a good size table with four chairs. The bathroom was very nice, fully equipped with whirpool tub and shower. We had a little bad luck with a power failure, which meant no hot water one morning, but that was soon fixed. The bed is quite comfortable, but you do have to share a terrace with another suite, which is a little awkward, especially if you like to sit outside late in the evening to chat.

The location is great, just off the Street of the Knights, very close to the Palace of the Grand Master. You can walk everywhere, even to the beach, in no more than 20 minutes.

The garden terrace is indeed a nice setting for breakfast or drinks, but, because it is enclosed, does get a little hot in the afternoon. Bar prices are a little on the high side, especially with all the competing restaurants and bars close by. What is offered is good and fresh, but could be a little more varied, I suppose, especially if you consider the cost to stay here.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Smaro. Good job girl! Dimitris was also very nice, but he wasn't around as much. The owner's mother was there every day, and, while friendly enough, doesn't seem to speak much english. She also had a shouting match with one of the employees one morning, while we were having breakfast, which really shouldn't happen in a place that charges these prices.

The one big problem is the air condionning. First off, you cannot control it from your room. The temp is preset at 23 deg. C from the reception area, and you have to ask to get it changed. They claim that you can vary it yourself up to 2 deg. either way, but that never worked. I had it changed to 21, but noticed very little difference. The units are really inefficient. On our last night, when we had to get up at four in the morning to catch an early flight, it was completely non-functional. As a result, we were lucky to get 2 1/2 hours sleep in the stifling heat. Since the windows and doors have no screens, you can't leave them open either. During our stay, I was told it would be fixed in the winter, when it was quiet. Well, that will mean a lot of unhappy customers when it gets really hot in July and August.

Had it not been for this problem, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the resort hotels in the area.

Dear Guests,
Thank you for choosing our hotel for your holidays. Additionally, thank you for spending your time writing all your thoughts.
Regarding the power failure, you understand that it happened not only in our hotel but in the old town in general. I am very sorry that you didin't have hot water in that morning.
Our philosophy is to run a luxurius yet familiar boutique hotel. Ideally everyone should know how to speak english ( even my mother) and of course everyone should respect your relaxing time. Sometimes when we try to do everything in a perfect manner, we over react. I ask for your excuse and apologise. The air condition is already fixed, we don't claim we are explaining what we have been taught from the air-conditioning company.
Best wishes,
Yiannis

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during our honeymoon in the Thalassa suite. It was very spacious and nice with modern fixtures, although the air conditioning didn't work upstairs and there were a lot of ants downstairs. The location is right in the middle of Old Town, which is great for doing sightseeing in that area. It is a unique quaint and charming hotel. The breakfast is served each day in the courtyard, where you fill out what you would like from a list the day before. I wasn't too impressed with the food overall. It's pretty simple and not a ton of options but it is convenient to eat on site. I wish they had other food options during the day but if you want another meal you have to request it the day before. We received very accommodating service from Smaro and Demetri, who were willing to help us with anything we needed, but the owner never spoke to us and seemed unfriendly, which we were surprised about after seeing such nice reviews. I would agree with other travellers who wished there had been a pool, especially during the summer months. I think this hotel is best for travellers who want to do a lot of sightseeing in the Old Town, are staying at short amount of time and visit during cooler weather.

The Avalon Boutique hotel has the best location in the heart of Old Town. We stayed in the Thalassa Suite which was beautifully decorated, spacious, and had all of the amenities of home. The staff were fantastic and helped us tremendously in locating our lost baggage! The breakfasts were my favorite part sitting out in the courtyard patio taling with the other guests. We will absolutely stay here again and fell in love with the traditional charms of Hotel Avalon.

We didn't stay at this hotel, but we certainly intend to. We visited the cafe garden twice whilst on holiday in Rhodes and found the service and surroundings impeccable.
