Lots of really good things about this hotel, great location on the beach. Lots of sun beds, plenty of shade, very clean, great pool area and a reasonable buffet barbecue.

This timeshare would be great, but the air-con is really poor and when it's 25 degrees at night you need it to work properly- ours was no better than a fan, although this wasn't the case in all rooms.

I travel a lot and actually lived in Greece for 12 months and I have never seen as many mosquitoes as there were at the sun beach- this was like a swarm descending every night. The hotel really need to address this, I noticed that some of newer rooms had mosquito guards at the doors so they know this is a problem- no matter what we did, sprays, electronic deterrents, citronella etc nothing seemed to work and we woke up covered in bites every morning. Despite all the good things I would not go back or
recommend this hotel purely for this reason, which is a shame because there were lots of good things.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a mosquito guard- I would avoid the ground floor

We have been timeshare owners at Sun Beach for about 8 years now. I love it because it is right on the beach, is continually breezy, only 15 mins from the airport and 15 mins from Rhodes Town. The club pool however gets very busy during July. We had to use the sunbeds on the beach for a couple of days (6 euros for two) because there were no pool side loungers available. All the units have now been refurbished to a good standard. For animation you need to go across the road to Sun Beach II. Plenty of restaurants to choose from in Ialyssos.

Room Tip: We always use our timeshare room, which is in Apollo block which opens out onto the lawn and has a seaview.

Stayed here because it came with good reviews, the location and was available with timeshare. Wouldn't stay again but not because of the resort itself, just hope that more timeshare options in Rhodes crop up over the next few years.
We started in a room on the ground floor, not impressed, little webs, coffee maker didn't work, stripping in both tubs was coming off the wall so when we showered the water sent gross chunks of mildew into the tub, no view, had requested an upgrade which we were entitled to and didn't receive. Front desk was a little put off that we didn't like our room, but it's their job to make us happy. Requested to switch and was instructed to see RCI (first time we have had to do that, usually front desk does it), but it worked out they accomodated us to a beautiful third floor room with view of the pool and sea. All the equipment worked and was lovely and clean. Only complaint with this one was that the hot water got shut off one day and we ran it for hours and it was still dirty, no shower that day. You had to rent your pool towels, if you wanted a beach chair on the beach you had to rent that too, if you wanted a proper wash cloth to do your dishes you had to go accross the street to the grocery and buy your own (we made do without), sometimes it's the little things that count, ya? I got taken for a ride by a bartender for coffee one day, he charged me 4 Euro next day I went back lady charged me 2.40. It's not much money, but still it's not right.
Speaking of being taken for a ride, they charge you 2 Euro extra to have the hotel call for the taxi, agree on your price before he takes you cause otherwise you may get a surprise, it didn't happen to us but we heard some stories.
The beach here is rocky with beautiful white stones, they are not jagged but if you aren't used to rocky beaches, take water socks with you and it wont' matter. A few days were quite windy and the water very rough, great for the abundant wind and kite surfers(cool to watch). Then a few days the wind died down and it was calm and once you get passed the rocks it's sand.
Location was great for us, we walked into Ixia every day. Airport not that far away, it cost us 13Euro to get to the resort. You can rent scooters and the like and if you are adventurous enough it's a dead cheap way to see the island, 18 Euro for a day and if you want more days "we can talk".
The greek salad does not have lettuce in it traditionally, it was FAB!
Luna Bar in Ixia is a family run establishment and the owners are so fabulous, you feel like family by the time you leave. So much fun and good food, drinks, internet, desserts and such. I am vegetarian but eat fish, so Kiki (the mom) made me a gyro with tuna instead of meat.
Go to see Lindos, Filerimos, Rhodes Town new and old, Seven Springs, Aqua Divina is a spa with "Dr Fish" and you can have this WHOA treatment done to your feet with the fish, so cool, it's in new Rhodes town. Shopping in Rhodes was fun too, bought an awsome bikini and dress at Zen boutique.
Beware of the roving dogs around the island, they seem all calm and docile during the day but by night time, they are hungry! It's maybe not that bad, but being leary of dogs, I wouldn't go back without pepper spray in my back pack! One came right up to us barking mad and followed us, my husband walked backwards because he stayed hot on our heels for nearly a km.
Beautiful sunsets, eat the baby shrimps from Symi Island, you eat the shell and all.
All in all, I think it would be great to go back but to the Lindos area where the water was calm all the time and nice sandy easy beaches. I think it would be a good base to do some island hopping. Do your research with that because if you book in good time, flights are cheap.
A word to the wise, we had a layover of one night in Athens to get back to Rome and it was the only place on our entire trip that we felt entirely unsafe. If you want to see ruins, email me and I can give you a list of other places to go that you will see similar sites. We watched a man ride off down the street with a ladies purse in tow. Thieves are everywhere. We will never go back to see more, a few hours there was enough to ward me off and enough to tell anyone not to go there!

Having just returned from two weeks at this resort I am pleased to confirm that the promised renovations appear to be almost completed. Although timeshare owners we were actually allocated to the building normally used by the tour companies as the time share block was fully booked, we therefore did not see a finished T/S apartment but speaking to other owners, we were told that they were very nice. Certainly our apartment was fine, we were told it had been renovated about 18 months ago and although it was simply furnished it was quite adequate and gave us everything we needed for basic self catering. It was a good size with a large balcony and lovely views across the water to Turkey.
Sun Beach is a very family orientated resort and there are lots of activities for children, together with large pool and recreational areas, this is all great but we were disappointed in the Ialysoss Beach area. It is very "touristy" nothing traditionally Greek at all, just lots of souvenier shops, bars, over priced supermarkets and in the main, mediocre restaurants. However, it is only a 15 mins walk to the bus stop and from there is it easy to get into Rhodes town and catch bus to almost anywhere on the Island but if you want to explore properly it would certainly be an advantage to have a car.
Taking notice of a previous trip adviser review and also the recommendation of our rep at Sun Beach we did find the San Allote taverna and it was extremely nice - well worth a visit. The food was delicious with many genuinely home cooked Greek dishes and helpful advice about what to choose if you are not sure; the Cake Box is also to be recommended. It is also worth walking to the Carrefore supermarket on the main road (about 10 mins from resort) as food it slightly cheaper there and there is certainly much more choice that at the local shops but be warned that a holiday in Rhodes is not longer a cheap option - we were shocked by the prices of everything.

There have been mixed reviews concerning the Sun Beach Holiday Club but we found that the stay was marvellous. The weather was good although windy, which always helps for a good holiday. The room was a recently renovated one and so we found it to a high standard and very comfortable.
The staff were very helpful, both the resort staff and the hotel staff. We enjoyed both the welcome meeting and a small evening do that was put on by Aegean Blue who are the on site RCI points people. Needless to say they did try to encoiurage us to buy some more points but we resisted. But the sell was not hard in anyway and we did not have to attend any presentation. In fact Chris, one of the staff, was most kind and gave us a lift in his cream coloured London taxi to the top of Filerimos hill where we saw the acropolis and the small churches. We then walked down later in the afternoon, at least an hour and a half walk but well worth it for the splendid views over the bay.
We tended to cater for ourselves but we did do a 3 dinner meal plan with the hotel. It was in a buffet style restaurant over the road attached to the package holiday side of the business. We enjoyed each of the meals - the soup and salad bar were the best feature and the choice main courrses always had something that was appealing. We were told that some of the local restaurants are very good but didn't get round to trying them.
There are three pools and three childrens' pools attached to the resort. All of them were very good, in particular we were able to use the 'members only' pool which has also been recently refurbished and that was excellent. But the toilet facilities near to the pool need some refurbishment now where there is also an out of order jacuzzi.
It was out first trip to Rhodes and the trips we did included the old town in Rhodes - a lively place with a plethora of jewellers shops. The ice cream from the shop in the square near St Catherine's gate was most welcome on a hot day. We also took a boat trip from Rhodes harbout to Lindos and climbed up to the famous acropolis and its temple of Athena. Once again a very enjoyable time amongst the ancient monuments and also spectacular views over Lindos and nearby bays with their fishing villages. Finally a catamaran trip to the island of Symi where we saw the shrine to St Michael (not M&S!) at Panormitis and then the beautiful town of Symi itself, divided into the harbour part Gialos and the upper part Chorio. The houses are beautiful - painted in many pastel shades of colour. We tried to find some of the old churches in the Chorio area but effectivel got lost and only managed to get to one which was locked.
All in all a delightful stay.
