“Fantastic Holiday after changing accomodation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2009

We just returned from a weeks stay at the Electra Palace. We were due to stay at the Oceanis but after discovering it's promise of refurbished rooms on it's website only related to one floor, we took the advice of other posters & paid extra to go to the Electra.
I will post some lovely photos, look at the hotel's website & what you see is exactly what you get. We had a 5th floor room with an amazing view of the pool. The rooms are very spacious, immaculately cleaned & the minibar is stocked when you arrive. It is not restocked but this did not bother us as the cola was local brand & we prefer branded so bought our own. The room has lovely bathrobes & slippers & toiletries. They are very good & restocked immediately. The hotel is on the flight path but the rooms have sound proof windows & you don't hear a thing. Actually we enjoyed seeing the planes as did all the guests who were constantly trying to catch them on their cameras whizzing past! The hotel had very little British travellers, mostly french & german. As you can imagine the Battle of the Sunbeds is alive & well. On some days we could not get a bed in a nice area & for the 1st time in 33 years I suffered mozzy bites after having to sun in the grassed area. After this I took it upon myself to inform the mangement of my disdain having seen people hijack the beds at 6am etc then not turn up to them until sometimes 2pm. The Hotel said it is not allowed & so we had a fun day removing all the towels! I had lots of fun telling an irate Frenchman who said the bed belonged to him to "Ferme la Bouche"!They were all hotel issued beach towels so no personal belongings. In fact we were so peed off at the people doing this, we took the boat to Turkey & placed our towels out at 6am before we were picked up & left them there all day and night. We chose our location craftily on a couple who took the choicest beds everyday without fail. Small pleasures. Anyway, I digress. The food is marvellous, I have never seen a hotel with so much choice, the breakfasts were eggs, bacon etc about 10 cereals, fresh fruit, freshly cooked croissants, pancakes. The lunches & dinners were as varied with a sweets section that was out of this world. The homemade gateauxs, profiteroles etc melted in your mouth. The Italian & chinese were great but book early as we did on the 2nd day to be given a slot at the chinese the night we were leaving, it was so popular. The beach is shingle so adviseable to invest in a pair of waterproof shoes from the supermarket for about 5 euros if you are going to visit often. We got our best tan then. The Hotel is in a quiet location & a bit out of the way but this suited us perfectly. The entertainment was great fun, Beatles night, Abba night, it was fun watching all the foreigners singing Hey Jude word for word and all twisting to Twist & Shout singing the words! The hotel is spotless. Only few drinks are branded but the local ones were good, not bad at all. We were so glad we changed to the Electra, besides the sunbeds we couldn't fault it, the staff speak very good english & are very friendly. Lefteris, George & Giannis (Rhode's own Jimmy Carr) made sure there were very little queues at night for drinks. It was a relaxing break for me & the hubby after I had been diagnosed with a serious illness issue last yeat & needed a break. I did wish my kids were there as the kids there had so much fun with their own play areas, pool & watching their little disco at night doing Superman & Agadoo was fun. We felt so relaxed even on the second day & have decided next time to return with our young children. I would wholeheartedly recommend this. I will post photos soon, lots of the room, beach, hotel bars and pool for you. Oh and you have to visit Rhodes town, it's beautiful, we were so impressed last time we got engaged that day!

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Electra Palace Trianda. We took our grandaughter who is 17 and her boyfriend who is also 17 years of age. We had a brilliant weeks holiday. The hotel staff were very efficient and friendly, the food was excellent and varied each day. The hotel and rooms were very clean and the whole area around the pool and gardens were well kept and clean.
Our whole holiday experience was good.

Just arrived back from this great hotel and could not fault it. This was our second visit, our first being five years ago and it was even better than we remembered.
The hotel is all inclusive now and for the money we paid it was excellent value.
The choice of food at meal times catered for every taste and was always well presented,
and lots of it. There are also Chinese and Italian restaurants which make a nice change.
Well worth trying.
The staff were all very pleasant and the girls on reception were very helpful.
The rooms were a good size and had a fridge and a kettle. You were also provided with
a bathrobe and slippers, a really nice touch.
The pool is one of the nicest we have seen with lots of sunbeds, there are also lots of sunbeds in the gardens which lead onto the beach. The beach itself is very pebbly and not a lot of sand. One thing that really annoyed us though was the reserving of the loungers, some people were actually laying their towels out at night to get the best spots.
The hotel should have a policy in place to deal with this.
The decor and cleanliness of this hotel was again faultless.
We had a lovely relaxing week with good food in a fantastic location, ten minutes from the airport and the same for Rhodes town. Loved it.

the pool is one of the nicest

Just returned from a week in the Electra Palace Hotel, in Rhodes, we went with Thomas Cook. We had a fabulous time, the accommodation, food and service we received were out of this world.....I'm sure we both put on 2 stone each..... We had not booked it but we were shown into a suite and that was pure luxury as well, with towelling dressing gowns and slippers, beach towels were included. as was the full mini fridge and air conditioning. and safe.....Do not hesitate to go there as you will find everything up to 4 star if not 5 star standard, and the staff are so obviously well trained and can't do enough for their guests. The views all around the hotel, which is on the beach, were amazing and we cant wait to book up for next year...the Italian restuarant was great, although we did'nt make it to the Chinese, one, we were more than happy with the main dining room with its view and beautiful white linen, and spotless crystal glasses.....Very few children there, which suited us, and it did look like they were catering more towards adult only clientel.....entertainment was fair, the alcohol on the whole was named brands so no problems there either. Basically could'nt find a fault....if there was one it was with us only booking 1 week.

my partner and i came back on 13th june 2009, fantastic hotel, wonderful choice of food
and drink, very clean, the down sides, hotel staff not very friendly, not alot of entertainment
for children or adults, and the waiters/waitresses would take your plate away as soon as
you put your knife and fork down, only one lift working for the entire week.
weather was fantastic, be aware that you will be badly bitten my the mossies, even though we took repellent and a plug in, we had to go to the pharmacy for cream
all in all a wonderful week and would return again

This is the first review I have written for Trip Advisor despite saying after every holiday my wife and I have been on that I will definitely write one this time, then the next and next etc etc.

So the Electra Palace in Trianda is a 5 star All Inclusive (Thomas Cook), the hotel has been refurbished in 2008 and since this was our 2nd visit we were impressed with the improvements since we were last there in 2005.

Rooms

The rooms are very spacious, clean and provided you are on the 3rd-5th floors then the views are great regardless whether you are pool or sea facing. A tip would be to email the hotel directly before you go and request the floor you would prefer, we have done this twice now and each time we have been given exactly what we requested no questions. My advice would be to go for 5th floor pool facing (522 was ours) sea view is just as nice but there is a supplement which considering the views from the pool view rooms I don't think it's necessary. The only niggling thing would be the fact the music from the evening entertainment is slightly louder from the pool view side.

Food

This is one area I get frustrated with when reading reviews. The food was great there was a vast selection for both lunch and dinner everyday, there was always a fish, chicken and red meat dishes as well as a massive variety of salad and cold food. The deserts were just as varied and tasty. There was always selection of grilled food available at lunch and dinner. Breakfasts were just as nice with the usual full English selection, omelettes, pancakes and crepes were alternated on a daily basis.

Sunbathing

As with some All-Inclusive hotels the race to get a good spot at the pool or beach can be a tough one, personally I got up each morning at 7am and put our towels down in the spot we preferred but to be honest there were more than sufficient sun beds available it was just the parasols which disappeared quickly. If it's a quiet spot you are looking for there are some good grassy areas just behind the beach, previously these were only available with and additional cost however since the hotel has changed to 5 stars there is no extra charge. My advice would be to get up early to claim one of these.

Resort

Trianda itself is quite a large town and it wasn’t until our 2nd trip to the Electra that we discovered most of it. If you go out the front of the hotel and head for the beach and turn right along the front you cross an area of waste ground then a bar/restaurant called Patty’s, walk passed this and down a street passed various hotels and shops. When you get to the end of this street there’s a fork in the road either left or right will take you to another main road when you reach this street turn left and head for the beach. The road turns right at the front and for about ½ a mile there are a selection of bars and restaurants expensive and reasonably priced. The Windmill café is well worth a visit very unusual but a lovely place to enjoy a refreshing drink.

You can also come out the hotel main entrance and turn left, if you walk up this road you will eventually come to the main road which goes round the whole Island. Turn left and you can walk along to the centre of Trianda, this is a quicker way but the main road is very busy and not the nicest to walk along.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Electra Palace on both occasions and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun with good food and tranquil surroundings.

We are just back from a fabulous holiday at the Electra Palace. There were 8 of us and we had four rooms which included one single room which had double bed and great sea view and tv. One junior suite which had 2 twin beds together , dvd player and huge private balcony with unbelievable sea views. We also had one residential suite (was an upgrade on arrival - details to follow) which had separate living room with sofa beds dvd player and flat screen tv and another tv in bedroom. We also had a family suite which was open plan. The living room and bedroom were separated by a sliding frosted glass door. This was great as we had a 2 year old who slept on comfortable sofa bed in living area but we could see her from the bed (two twins together). This room had two balconies - one off living room and one off bedroom. had view of pool and partial sea view. Also had dvd player and tv in living room and tv in bedroom. Greek tv is great. There is always an english film on at night on Star channel with greek subtitles. Also had an english speaking cartoon channel Jetix - which was a godsend for the 2 year old! sky and bbc news also. There were also french and german channels.

All bathrooms had bath and shower. The toiletries provided were really good as well.

The rooms were cleaned every day and the whole hotel was spotless.

We booked through direct holidays and on arrival at reception they tried to tell us that it was our lucky day and instead of the standard double room and standard single room that we had booked we were being given one residential suite instead (details above). This was not suitable for us and after a bit of a debate they said they could give us the single room after one hour as they didnt' have one immediately available. After we completely refused lo and behold they said actually the single was available and we could even keep the residential suite instead of the double. It worked out well for us but be warned and be ready in case the same thing happens to you!

The mini bar was stocked on arrival with a few beers and soft drinks and water which was nice and on an all inclusive deal was great that it was free! It was not re-stocked though which was not a problem.

As previous reviewer said breakfast was large and plentiful. You could also go for a late breakfast between 10.30 and 12 in the italian restaurant where you could have eggs, bacon or french toast and coffee to order and a basket of cakes/rolls/breads. lovely!

There were 2 vegetarians in the party and were in the main catered for pretty well. Some days were better than others but there were always plenty of options at the buffet in the grand international. The selection was different every night of the week we were there. There was always a huge selection of salads, cheeses and for dessert there was ice cream and a selection of cakes. Examples of dinner choices would be spaghetti bolognaise, grilled fish, sea food pastas, veal fillets, pork medallions, mexican night had vegetable filled tortillas and burritos. There was also a chinese night with stir fries. Lunches were also brilliant. The hotel also has a separate italian and chinese restauarants which you have to book. We booked the italian and got a place 4 days later. It was amazing. The pizzas were superb. The meat main courses were also really really good.

The pool area was superb with plenty of sunbeds and the hotel is situated right on the beach and also had lots of free sunbeds. The beach is sand and shingle and sea bed pretty stony so you need those rubber shoes for swimming in the sea. You can buy these at the small supermarket next to the hotel for around 5 euros. The sea was great to swim in though can get choppy so beware! The water is pretty shallow for quite a distance so still good for those not so good swimmers like me!

We are not a family who as a rule enjoy organised entertainment but actually the stuff that was on was pretty good. During the day they hosted yoga, petanque, aqua aerobics and we took a greek lesson. In the evenings they had a variety of live bands which were really good. This all took place in the outdoor areas so if you prefer peace and quiet there are two bars inside serving drinks till midnight. The cocktails are to be recommended! The beer was not brilliant but drinkable and the white wine was ok. The red was not all that great.

With the pound doing so badly against the euro just now all inclusive is the way to go. we went out a couple of days to rhodes town and cremasti (a nearby village with the most gorgeous chuch) and had lunch. Very expensive - £8 for a club sandwich and £5 for fish fingers.

The bus stop is probably 10 mins walk away and the buses are brilliant. Very air conditioned and the driver announces every stop in english.

All in all I thought the location of the hotel was superb. It is on the flight path of rhodes airport which means that you have a very quick transfer (10-15 mins). The planes fly very low over the hotel which was actually great to look at. In terms of noise I can honestly say it didn't bother me. My dad did say a plane woke him up once during the week. The noise of each plane probably lasts about 6 seconds and there were not that many during the day and night - prob about 20 in total I think but could be totally wrong on that so don't quote me!

Along the beach to the right hand side you will find yourself on the main Trianda strip where there are lots of other hotels and shops and bars etc.

What we liked most about the hotel and the Trianda resort was that there was a mix of nationalities - I don't like going on holiday to be surrounded by brits like me! I would say in the hotel itself there were mainly French people followed by German and British. The Trianda strip mentioned above seemed to be mainly Scandinavian and Dutch.

Like most places in Greece there were tonnes of mosquitoes. Make sure you buy Jungle Formula. That seems to be the best repellent - although I still did get bitten a few times. We also bought a plug in repellent with tablets from the same supermarket near the hotel which also helped. We saw a lot of toddlers who were absolutely covered in bites - I thought at first it was chickenpox but was definitely the mozzies.

This is the first review I've ever done but as I've used the site so many times in the past I feel I should give as much info as possible! I hope you find it helpful

I would highly recommend and would definitely return.
