“enjoyable 2 week holiday”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Just returned from a 2 week stay with my husband and 15 year old daughter. The only criticism was that the room we were in, although spacious could do with an update. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. All the staff were fantastic and extremely friendly and helpful, they all work extremely hard but with a smile on their faces. The animation team were one of the highlights and some of the shows they put on in an evening were very good and the whole team were fantastic, even if you were not wanting to participate in the activities they put on during the day they were not pushy and just left you alone but still asked you every day if you wanted to be involved..
The dining area was large and there was always a variety of things to choose from. We tried both the Italian and Greek a la carte and enjoyed them both but thought the Italian meal was the better of the two.
The complex is rather large but is kept very clean and tidy, there was always someone keeping the grounds and pool area tidy. The pool itself was spotless, although we only used the large pool, the smaller one was where the younger children's play area was and also where all the activities took place so was usually very busy.
During our first week there were hardly any English holiday makers but this did not seem to matter as English was still spoken by all the hotel staff.
Overall a very good holiday and would certainly consider visiting again.

Room Tip: The hotel is on the arrival flight path bu to be honest once you have been there for a few days you...

This is one of the best hotels I have been in so far. It is a little more expensive, but OK. This was my second time and it was even better than last year. The animation is wonderful, really the best so far. They give their 100% all the time. There is a normal variety of food and fruits and all of it is delicious, especially the desserts. The pool and its surroundings are clean. The rooms are spacious, but the bathroom needs a renewal. The cleaning staff is really nice and so are everyone else. I will visit this hotel again, but I hope they get a football field , because that is missing.

Being reluctant AI-tourists, this probably does not come as a surprise: not going back!
But let's begin at the beginning!
The hotel and it's grounds are great. Lots of space, quite a bit of noise and lots of people everywhere. Having found a sunbed that wasn't broken, you could easily stay on it for as long as you liked. The rule of not securing your sunbed untill 8:00 am does not stand up. I belive some people got up at five just to get the special bed they wanted! : )
We managed to get the sunbeds we needed, even ones that weren't broken, and a shade to hide under when necessary, and can't complain. But I must say I felt aggressive those mornings when I had to hunt round for beds, when som bugger had taken four decent sunbeds and replaced with broken ones from under that shade we spent the days! Securing up to eight beds in a row, for kids who hardly spent any time on them at all?! This makes me a bit annoyed.
BUT: the hotel who sets it's pride in keeping the grounds neat and tidy and well kept, why can't they keep their sunbeds and umbrellas in working order? Stacks og broken sunbeds in one corner of the property, waiting for what? Being put down, or being fixed? They weren't too clean either, even if the public areas where being cleaned and kept nice. Perhaps when the season is over, they'll give the sunbeds a rinse too....
Our room was terrific! Spacious for three, even four. The ladies who clean, are great. New towels every day, most of the time we had plenty of toilet paper too. :) The hotel could change bedlinen a little bit more often though.... And the posh shower: not for someone with arthritis. Nothing but three drinking glasses in the kitchen area though. Could have supplied a hot water boiler, so we could make ourselves some coffee?! You don´t get coffee for lunch or dinner, btw, just for breakfast. In the pool bar, yes, but then you will have left the Dionyssos restaurant and your sweet dessert, and the coffee you get there is warm and brown. Don't add sugar from the bowl there, you don't know where the spoon has been! Not a decent cup of coffee, sorry to say.
But back to Dionysos and bereakfast, lunch and dinner. Get up early! There is a line for fried eggs and pan cakes, and some members of the kitchen staff are quite strict. Fried eggs disappears quickly, and they don't keep up the supply. The little pan cakes tend to stick to the botom of the tray... Small things to complain about, but annoying.
We experienced that we needed to come early to every meal, to be able to secure plates, glasses and cups, since the staff had trouble keeping up with the diners' pace. They also sometimes had trouble refilling drinkmachines, one seemed to be left dry for days, or perhaps I was just unlucky?!
The food itself was OK. Repetitive. Some of the meat where poor quality, lots of fat and stuff that isn´t food for men. A good variety of cold dishes every meal, but some days the fruit supplied was poor. Why set out half rotten and mouldy fruit? Perhaps for someone who only wants to eat half of it anyway? NOT APPETIZING!
Most members of the staff there was smiling and polite. Enough said.
After a few days, we escaped outside the walls for a decent meal in PEACE AND QUIET. Food prepared just for us. Bliss.....
We never tried the Greek or the Italian restaurant in the evening. Didn't see any reason to. We know the island so well, we know where to go for great food. That was not in the hotel's grounds.

The animation team: fun gang, impressive! ; )

All in all, it is a good place to spend your holidays. But we are not going back. We are not AI-people, we do like to decide what to eat from a menue and sit in a comfy chair having something nice to drink with our meal. Something coming out of a bottle, not a plastic bag in a machine....
We did know what we were getting ourselves into, and we worked hard to stay positive and polite.
The reason we stayed there, he was happy most of the stay. So then were we.
The lady in the little shop, she is a gem. So are the ladies doing their magic in the massage areas. I know. Thespina(?) worked her magic on my back. ; )

You get to see a lot of planes coming in for landing at the airport. Fascinating. They all landed where they should and quite a few of them passengers were guests at the hotel. I hope they had a good stay like us. And that some of them, unlike us, will return. : )

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms closest to the larger pools, as these will be affected by entertainment bot...

This hotel was everything we need to make our two week holiday a succes.

Good food: check. Good bed: check. Good kids club: double check.

Let's start with the first one. Food was very good, plenty and a lot of choice. I don't think we had to eat the same thing twice. Only down side was dinner at the main restaurant. Wauw, that's one noisy place! It's more like a high school cafeteria. We went out for dinner often and the Italian a la carte restaurant was a releif too. Our daughter loved the restaurant and that's the only reason we went there once in a while. But if we could avoid, we did.

Our room had everything you needed except for plugs. We had a sea view room on the 3rd floor, so we could enjoy some time on the balcony too. Yes, the room is a bit outdated, but nothing problematic. What was a problem was the lack of plugs. There's not even one in or just outside the bath room, so electric shaving could've been a problem.

Entertainment was fantastic! Hats of to the whole team. Our daughter loved going to the kids club. We even hardly saw her. They were all very nice and not pushy at all. We enjoyed it all very much and sometimes we went along with an activity and sometimes not. That was all ok.
Shows were of a very high standard! So why don't you just go and check it out.
They gave our daughter the best birthday ever! She'll never forget that day :-)

Rest of the staff was so so. I thought they were mostly very rude and somehow it was difficult to get a smile once in a while. It got me frustrated in the beginning, but after a while you just get used to it, I think.

We loved how the hotel was situated. Very quiet area. We took the bus into Rhodes a few times. And we rented a car for two days to explore the rest of the island (please do so, as it's just magical!).

If we would ever go to the same place twice (which we never do) we would definitly consider going back to this place.

Sunshine Vacation Club Rhodes is ok if you travel with a large group with children, and you prefer to lay by the pool all day. If not, consider somewhere else. .

Location: A short taxi ride from the airport. The hotel is located right on the beachfront. There are a few streets nearby with some shops and bars/restaurants, but don't expect too much. The golden days are over, you can see that the poor greek economy has affected this area. Also, be aware that this hotel is on the windy side of Rhodes, if you are interrested in windsurfing, this is the spot. Bring a jacket for late, windy nights. Go to Rhodes old town (15 min with taxi), worth visiting.

Room: We had paid extra for sea view, and we still had to ask for upgrade because we got a room on the 2nd floor with a brick wall view. Not much understanding from the front desk staff, but we did get another room which was better in some ways, but not all. The decor was nice, and the bed comfortable, we clearly had one of the newly renovated rooms, but that didn't help too much. The main problem however was the cleaning, our room was far from clean, and it smelled funky all the time, like mold. The shower was broken, the maintainance crew repaired it after a few hours. If you like to sit on the balcony, be aware that almost all rooms in this hotel are facing north, so: no sun. The air outside smelled from sewage from the hotel .

Hotel area: A bit dated, but looks ok. Several large pools. A pool bar which serves drinks. All sunbeds both at the pools and the beach, were always taken, the hotel should have increased the number of beds. The buffet restaurant has a nice view. The hotel bar did not appeal to us, because we don't like cheesy entertainment in the evenings, but it seemed popular.

Food/drinks: We had all inclusive. Breakfast was standard buffet breakfast, but tasty. Dinner varied every night, but it was not very exciting. Tasty enough, but not "wow". We had pizza at the snackbar for lunch a few days, really good! Drinks are served in tiny plastic glasses, and drink menu is very limited.

Wifi: Don't bother buy wifi-cards, slow and do not work properly.

Overall, ok hotel for families, with activities and large pool area, but for a couple like us it was not worth it. We have been to many hotels in the same price range that are so much nicer.

This is the first time we've tried an All inclusive resort and it will be the last, we stayed at Sunshine Vacation Club for two weeks from end of May. I was fed up with the food after only two days at the "resort" the selection was quite poor, breakfast and lunch was ok, but hey if you love chicken and pork made with different sauces severed every day go a head a book.I would also like to add that their ala Carte restaurants are no good. I did like the bars, even with the limited selection in drinks you can at least get your fill when you feel like it.

I would like to point out that the animation team did a fantastic job!, we brought our daughter to mini disco every night and she had a blast and so did we. We also went on several shows which was fun. The animation team has lots of stuff going on all through the day, I highly recommend joining in on the fun.

During the first four days at the hotel I had to kill four big Cockroaches in our bathroom, during this time I talked to the reception who sent maintenance who sprayed the entire bathroom in bug repellant, but the Cockroaches kept coming back. Then I suggested hey how about you guys install the plugs for the drain in the bathtub and sink, they listened to me and suddenly no more cockroaches.

We stayed in building six on the 3rd floor, it's pulled back from the rest of the buildings and this was quite nice noise wise. The standard of the building was ok, the rooms and bathroom etc. was outdated. The pools and grounds throughout the resort is well kept.

The service throughout the hotel is average.

Second time we have done all inclusive. Very poor compared to our first time in Majorca. Food average and drinks were not good. Very noisy from early to late so a lay in not possible. Spent half of our time eating and drinking outside of the hotel. Cockroaches here and there, worst of all in our room on the last night. Beach ok and close by but full of all the plastic cups that are blown out from the pool bar all day long. Queues for almost everything and often you have to wait for re-fills. Some staff smile most dont. And the rule about reserving sun beds after 8 in the morning a complete joke. most had towels on by 7 each morning. And finally the hotel is on the flightpath to the airport so if low flying planes over your head about every 5 mins is your thing then enjoy the extra noise from them. And the wifi is not free unlike the rest of the street. Will not be going back.
