“Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

My husband and I spent a week at the Port Royal and our only gripe was we didn't stay longer. The staff from the moment we arrived were fantastic George at reception greeted us with a welcoming drink and smile. The food was amazing and lots of choice, Tony at the drinks bar was fab at making cocktails and worked really hard. All the staff were friendly kind and would do anything to make you happy. The pool was fab with a choice of two and with no kids it really was a dream holiday. I highly recommend this hotel and would say it was a fantastic 5☆ and we cant wait to go back.

On arrival we were taken by coach to the hotel. The journey took 1 hour and thankfully we were the 2nd drop off. The hotel receptionists were very helpful although we should have had our hotel voucher with us and had to show a copy of it before we were taken to our rooms. Whilst waiting we were offered a tasty welcome drink and canapés.

The bellboy drive us to our rooms (we were a party of 5 with 3 rooms). The rooms were extremely clean and well presented. It was worth paying a little extra for a sea view as at the end of each day we had sundowners on our balcony watching the sea change colour at sunset.
Every member of staff was courteous and many went out of their way to talk to is in English ( although some were more proficient). The food choices were extensive, beautifully presented and mostly delicious with a range of tastes catered for. One of our party is gluten intolerant and so long as we made the staff aware the day before her dietary needs were catered for although a week was long enough due to the lack of choice for these particular foods.

It was certainly worth paying the extra to be all inclusive as we didn't have to pay a penny for any food and drink. Unlike some all inclusive hotels we had previously visited the selection of alcohol and cocktails was extensive.

The swimming pools were large and thankfully not overcrowded although we did have to put titles on our sun beds before we went to breakfast as often the choice was limited. The beach was made of sand and small rough pebbles.

Outside the hotel is a range of tourist shops and bars all at reasonable prices. Excursions organised by Thomas Cook were expensive. We weren't enamoured by the choice so did not go on any. Equally water sports on the hotel beach were very expensive.

This was an absolutely fantastic holiday. Being adult only it was calm quiet and so relaxing. 2 of our party stayed for. 2 weeks and it was totally worth it.

The airport in Rhodes is small smelly and expensive. It would be worth paying extra to use the lounge.

Excellent standard of hotel, rooms well equipped, food fresh and varied. Went all inclusive and can recommend it as the drinks are very expensive. The all inclusive wine is adequate - found the same wine in a shop down the road for 2 euros a bottle (The hotel were charging 6 euros a glass if not all inclusive).

Staff very pleasant, especially in the restaurant.

Bar service by the main pool can be painfully slow with only one barman working most of the time- one of the barmen is excellent, the other needs to multi task better. I did raise it with one of the managers however he was dis-interested. There is a smaller bar by the quieter pool where the service is much quicker as they don't serve cocktails. Strawberry daiquiri's were excellent!

I can recommend Rodos car hire based in the main street, very good service.

PLease don't worry about the noise from the hotel next door - it is hardly noticeable.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was fantastic! Friendly and helpful staff all across the hotel; drinks and cold towels when we arrived, and a golf buggy to take us to our rooms, following a quick tour of the whole hotel complex. The rooms were lovely, very light and spacious, and cleaned to a high standard every day. Plenty of sun loungers by the pools (though if there are more than 2 of you I would recommend putting your towels down before breakfast, as you probably won't get more than 2 together later on in the morning). The pools were lovely and refreshing after the hot sun, and freshwater (no chlorine), which was nice. The food was amazing! We were all inclusive, so had all meals and drinks up until 11pm. There was a lot of choice for all meals, from English food to all kinds of European food. Always lots of fresh bread and salads as well as all the hot choices. Different themed nights some days, and we ate in the poolside restaurant one night, which was also very good. Live music most evenings, but not much going on during the daytime, so very relaxing! Lots of good shops nearby, including a couple of supermarkets and a pharmacy. We were recommended to a local travel agent by a member of hotel staff, to book some excursions. We went to Rhodes Town one evening, and the Valley of the Butterflies/Ostrich Farm; both very good excursions and reasonable priced. Overall an excellent stay, would definitely recommend for friends and couples!

This is an excellent hotel. From the minute we checked in at 11pm, we were greeted with a cool drink, hot towel and as we'd missed dinner, a cold meat and salad platter, along with a bottle of wine awaited in the room. We were given a quick tour of the complex on the way to our room, which is just large enough to not feel crowded, but not so large as to feel like factory-esque faceless complex.

Our room (garden view, ground floor by smaller pool) was spotless, cleaned everyday to an immaculate standard and well-furnished. The quartz wall was an excellent touch and air conditioning was perfect. There was plenty of storage space, including a variety of hangers.

The one thing which struck me, and others we spoke to, was that even though the hotel was operating at full capacity, it never felt busy or crowded. Sunbeds next to the pool or on the beach could be found all day, even at midday, and even though there was some 'sunlounger reserving' there were plenty to go around in good spots around the two, spacious pools, so this was never an issue. Everything felt calm and the staff always smiled and greeted you, from front of house staff to the cleaners and gardeners. Management were constantly walking around the hotel and keeping an eye on things and genuinely seemed interested, as well as helping the staff which I liked. The one thing which irks me is when management stand around when an extra pair of hands is needed; this was in no way the case at the Port Royal.

Service really is a strong point of this hotel: the staff seem to not be able to do enough for you. If you stay, I would recommend using the all inclusive package, as you get a generous allowance and many branded drinks are included. My boyfriend was extremely impressed Jagermeister was in on this! Cocktails were also lovely: not watered down and mixed with a smile. Antonnis at the main bar was an excellent bartender: friendly, knowledgeable and a perfectionist about how he mixed drinks - a winning combination!

Meals are great: nothing is recycled and there is a huge variety. I am allergic to dairy and the staff happily found me soya milk for each meal, as well as offering to cook me anything I wanted if there was nothing I could have, but due to the vast choice at each meal, apart from the milk I was fine. There is a huge selection of fresh fruit, juices etc at breakfast and I would fail to see how anyone could not find something they liked at each meal.

The Italian a la carte menu option was nice to have a break and the restaurant overlooking the pool was calm and romantic. This has to be booked a day in advance but is included in the AI package. We were reminded of this at breakfast one day, not in a 'selling it' way, just a, "Have you managed to try this?" approach.

The main restaurant, which operates on a buffet basis, was calm, clean and dishes were constantly being refilled, as well as stations where meals could be freshly cooked to order, e.g. pasta, salad, risotto etc. Drinks orders were taken promptly and arrived quickly to the table. The hotel has a system of them being ordered on a tablet, then delivered to your table by another member of staff which works efficiently. There is no need for wristbands as the AI package is determined by your room number.

Evening entertainment was a range of different singers and a dance troupe one evening. There is also a programme of yoga and fitness classes each morning and the opportunity to take part in cooking classes and wine tasting. Internet access is free in the reception area and could be sporadic at times in the evening, but this wasn't a problem for us as we wanted a week to 'switch off', and if the evening was busy, we just logged on the next morning. The hotel were installing extra routers when we left, so whether this improves remains to be seen. I think those who have complained in others reviews need to consider this hotel isn't marketed as a business resort, and the service provided was perfectly functional for checking email/facebook etc.

The hotel also has a section of the beach which is clean and tidy, as well as offering free sunloungers and parasols. Again, this was calm, clean and not congested.

On leaving, checkout was quick and efficient and when we asked if there were shower facilities, we were shown to an empty room, no questions asked.

All in all, I would definitely return to the Port Royal. My boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxing, child-free week, with good service and lovely food. We were impressed on all counts and would definitely return, finding nothing to fault. We didn't want to come home and my only regret was that we didn't book for two weeks!

Just back from a fabulous, relaxing 2 week break at this hotel. Great place if you want somewhere to sit around and relax. The hotel facilities were terrific; great pool, lovely room (that was cleaned every day), uncrowded hotel with easy access to the sea and beach and the hotels own sun loungers and umbrellas (the beach was slightly stony, but i'm not a lover of the sea at the best of times and its no reflection on the hotel), lovely food and relaxing bar areas all served by a great set of staff. Two pools available, one of which is big so wasn't crowded, there are pool/beach towels provided free every day, no real issues over 'the early morning rush' to book sun beds because there were plenty for everyone in the 2 weeks we were there but if you wanted one right next to the pool then put a towel out before going in for breakfast. If wifi is a need in your room or around the pool then pay for extra, but if you just need to 'catch up' from day to day the access is free access in the reception and main bar area. There were a variety of singers on each evening who were relaxing to listen to whilst enjoying a drink or 2 and weren't too loud that it stopped conversation.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would happily go there again.

Like many modern resorts, Port Royal feels a bit artificial as if everything has been specifically CREATED for the tourist. That said this created environment is very civilised. There is a lawn planted between the low-rise villas and the sea, the paths are lined by colourful flowering plants. The rooms are stylish and cool. The air conditioning is quiet and efficient. Everywhere is very clean and everything works well. The pools are lovely and there is a no-hassle system for getting beach towels .If you are not all-inclusive, the drinks are pricey. The food is excellent with plenty of choice to appeal to everyone. The staff are universally friendly, helpful and efficient. The sand on the beach is rather coarse, but it doesn't blow everywhere. There are submerged rocks out to sea which can make getting in and out a bit difficult, but there is excellent snorkelling to be done. There is a headland that can be climbed to gain wonderful views over the next bay and its little harbour. We stayed a week which is probably enough, and hired cars to explore Rodos and Lindos. I would recommend Port Royal to anyone wanting a quiet sophisticated holiday experience in Greece; I suspect that's a rare thing to find. Young adults will particularly like it. Many people seem to just go to soak up the sun by the pool and develop deep tans but if they don't venture out, they are missing out on the wider experience possible from their haven-like base.

Room Tip: I suspect all the rooms are good. The layout has been well thought out.
