“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Memphis Beach in Kolymbia. This was not our preferred resort to stay but we were there for a friend's wedding. The resort is small but has plenty of bars, shops and restaurants. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The only downside is that it seems the British have deserted it. The hotel was full of Russians, East Europeans, Germans and Italians. We were the only Brits there. Meal times were a bit busy and the best food mostly ran out after an hour so for the rest of service it was all a bit samey and cheap looking. The two pools are lovely and we always found sun beds available. Would not really recommend the hotel to Brits.

We stayed at this hotel in July, this hotel was beautiful, our room was lovely, a super size and a fantastic sea view. The rooms were cleaned everyday and every where was spotless. The pools and surrounding areas were great. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly. We really enjoyed this hotel. We were right in the middle of town which was a small strip of shops, bars and restaurants. Memories bar made some lovely cocktails and is worth a visit. Overall this hotel was super, we would definitely return to this hotel.

Booked this hotel after months of searching. We were a party of 7 which included two children aged 6 and 7. We were impressed right from the start. Hotel very clean and well kept. Rooms were very large for family suites, even the twin rooms were a good size. All staff were brilliant and could not do enough to help. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Very close to bars and shops. Excellent value for money. Definately not a budget hotel like some have discribed, was much better than the 4 star we went to last year. Can't wait to come back next year.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 to 36 are the suites and are bigger but do front onto the main road, balconies face into com...

I booked this hotel based on the reviews on trip advisor and I wasn't disappointed. The food was amazing, the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. There were two pools to choose from and the room was spacious with a larger than average terrace. The hotel was extremely clean. The bus stop was very close to the hotel so you can travel around the island with ease at reasonable prices - there is also a free bus to the waterpark in Falaraki. You are also situated very close to the beach.
Negatives....for some reason the air-conditioning is an extra charge at 7 Euros per night. If you want a sunbed on the beach they are 4 Euros each.
The negatives didn't spoil our holiday - you can't have everything I suppose.
Enjoy your stay and say Hi to Marianne for us.

Room Tip: We asked for a high room (3rd floor is the maximum) with a sea view. We were situated on a corner.

Stayed 2 weeks all inclusive in August 2014

Good Stuff :-

- Rooms incredibly clean, maid service with clean towels daily
- Superb family room, spacious with double bed and 2 singles. Decent sized balcony too
- 2 separate swimming pools not at all busy, always loads of sunbeds available. Often we had a pool totally to ourselves
- Very well looked after grounds
- Good location 5 minutes walk from the beach with another 2 beached within 10 mins walk
- Very friendly staff
- Plentiful food
- Real mix of people staying (Russian, Czech, German, Italian, Belgian and others) there so it was by no means a British ghetto. Only 3 or 4 british families there when we stayed

Bad stuff :-

- Only 1 male and 1 female public toilet accessible from the pool area and these would not flush half the time. Definitely needs more as it meant having to go back to the room every time and with children this was not ideal
- Food somewhat bland and repetitive. The hot vegetable from one night got mayonnaise on it for the following days lunch, or became the soup of the day for the evening meal next day
- Bar service very slow. With just one person serving drinks from a single bar area in the evening, a 5-10 minute queue for drinks was normal. Not good for an all inclusive hotel. That being said, the bar man Andreas is a real character and great fun
- Wi-fi is TERRIBLE, a compete joke; despite having 13 hotspots the signal was pretty much unusable. Don't waste your money on it, go for a 3 Euro beer in the Oasis or Paradise bar (both in 2-3 minutes walk) and use their free wi-fi.

No entertainment / kids clubs during the day, which suited us just fine as I can't stand being asked to play volleyball / water polo / football / bingo all day long. However if you are used to someone organising activities all day long then this is not the place for you.

No evening entertainment apart from a "Greek Night" (4 dancers performing for an hour) once a fortnight and also a fornightly "Music Night" which was a chap singing along to a guy playing a keyboard ; heard better in the local pub karaoke but got better the more we drank !!!

NB there is a waterpark at the Hotel Mikri Poli which is 10 minutes walk from the Memphis and which you can pay 10 euros per adult / 5 euros per child to use for a day. Miles better value for money than the big waterpark in Faliraki that the tour companies try to sell you tickets to. Only a small place but no queues at all.

Don't go to Memphis Beach expecting Sandals type luxury under any circumstances, but considering that we paid less for 2 weeks all inclusive than most other places wanted for just bed and breakfast, it is very hard to fault things too much. Great value for money and I would definitely go back again.

The Good

Hotel clean. Bedding and towels changed daily. Pools very clean, no problem getting a sunbed, didn't have the usual 5am rush to reserve beds. Usually went around 8.30am - 9am and could still get a sunbed. Bar man Andreas great, drinks the usual all inclusive with a few cocktails. The location of the hotel is perfect, Kolymbia really comes alive at night with good restaurants and bars. Recommend the Carousel restaurant and Statues bar for cocktails. Pool areas and restaurant very clean and staff very friendly and efficient.

The Bad

The food although mostly edible was at best warm, no meals ever served hot we even waited until they replenished but even that was only just warm the hotel needs to invest in a microwave for people to heat the food up. Breakfast's not good the hotel did not even have a toaster, never been to an all inclusive hotel with no toaster for breakfast. You are only allowed to have butter/margarine with bread at breakfast, even if you request it at lunch or dinner you are refused it - we invested in a tub of clover which we took to the meals with us. We suffered from an ant invasion in the bathroom but was told by reception that the cleaners had no insecticide and I was in Greece what did I expect. There is no free Wi-Fi at all in the hotel, We did pay for it but couldn't access it in the room and bit hit and miss around the pool area, had to go into reception to use it. The website for the hotel misleading as it indicates that rooms have flat screen tv's, our room was an old fashioned portable, never even bothered switching it on.This was a problem for us with the bar shutting at 11pm prompt we intended to go back to the room to watch films we had taken with us and have a drink but this was not possible. Website indicated leisure activities, water polo etc but never saw any evidence of this over the two weeks

All in all would return to this hotel if we got it cheap and could afford to eat out more.

Loads of good things to say about this hotel, staff all nice and friendly, multilingual receptionists, brill barman and fantastic service by the cleaners (although they did have a habit of knocking once and then rushing in, so beware!)

On the down side, buffet style budget food got very samey so expect liver rather than steak, but loads of everything, and always a choice of 3 meats eg; beef/chicken/lamb or meatballs although in weird combinations at times; I wanted spaghetti with the meatballs, but there was only rice or cold chips, carrots or broccoli and an absence of feta cheese every night on the sadly soggy salad! Looked like the same soup every night so did'nt bother and a limited choice of puds, but always ice cream and the tastiest grapes in the world.

Wines on tap would never win an award but OK with food, but reasonable beer and a good range of non-branded spirits over the bar which closes at 11.00pm sharp

Treated our taste buds a few times at the highly recommendable Carousel restaurant just around the corner; a wide range of meals for 2 around 25e including a few drinks (eg greek salad to start, sirloin steak/lamb chops or a MASSIVE mixed grill)

However you could go here for all holiday without having to spend another penny; 2 brilliant big sandy beaches and a little harbour with another little beach which has a small nudist section, all within a few minutes walk, good swimming and snorkelling especially against the cliffs if you like seeing fish (first time we'd ever seen an octopus!) Loads of sunbeds on the beaches, but at a charge of 8e per day, so take a big towel or pay up NB cheapo parasols a waste of time, saw loads of these blown along the beach every day.

Beware that the hotel does not supply towels for the beach or pool so you need to supply these yourselves (we bought 2 for under 10 euros, so not a problem) similarly bottled water is not provided, but this only costs 1.5e for 6 litre bottles from Zeus Supermarket on the corner
No entertainment, apart from a random act once a week, but again not a problem with all the local live music and kareoke bars along the "strip" nearby and most people happy to play cards or just relax over a couple of drinks.

Air con a necessity in high season, included in the price although apparently not at other times, so worth checking.

Two pools; one by the bar more of a kiddy play pool with a bridge, but another, which got nice and quiet in the late afternoons, was full sized and good for some "proper swimming" before another big meal at night.

Started off in a first floor room with a view of half a tree and a whitewashed wall with a manic cockerel for an alarm clock, but were moved without any hastle to a top floor with a half decent view after a couple of days for no extra cost.

DON't expect waitress service, tablecloths or high-end food, this is deservedly a 3.5 star hotel; you get what you pay for but plenty of good, basic stuff, very clean everywhere and with great staff.

Might well return for a quick week now and then even if just for the swimming.

Room Tip: All rooms OK but avoid ground floor, heard terrible stories about ants and other insects. Air con a...
