“Wow what a five star hotel!”
Reviewed 17 June 2011

Fantastic five star hotel! The staff were so kind and attentive to all our needs. The food was of a very high standard as well as being very well varied. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the backdrop of the mountains and pine trees was beautiful. I wish I had stayed more than a week and would definitely return again next year! Worth thomsons platinum status!

My wife and I couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable holiday - fabulous food, great seaview and garden view rooms, loads of outdoor space (including immaculately kept gardens), impressive swimming pools, totally relaxing lobby/terrace bar and a lively pool taverna. But above all, a big thank you to the staff. Nothing was too much for them to ensure your holiday ran smoothly. They were fantastic.
The hotel, in my opinion, is suitable for couples and families. Mums and dads, in particular, will surely be thrilled by what the Aegean Blue has to offer their kids.
The resort , Kolymbia, is nothing to write home about.

Just back from Rhodes and the Atlantica Aegean Blue yesterday. As some reviewers have said the hotel isn't a true five star hotel but for the money it is indeed a very decent hotel.
Our room was situated a few minutes walk from the main hotel and was clean and airy, as we didn't spend much time in it that's all I can expect. Maybe a more powerful shower, normally by 6.30pm it was luke warm. But, the maids made the room up every day and the balcony was huge if you like to lie out on it.
For an all inclusive we found the food to be of a high standard, the chefs did an excellent job. Something there for everyone and of good quality. Logistically, the restaurant caters for too many people at breakfast and you end up queuing ages for omelettes which make an appearance a coupe of times per week. Same at lunchtimes, the pool canteen was absolutely mobbed so maybe best to choose your meal times carefully.
The AI drinks were quite average, served from 10am til midnight. Cocktails not very tasty and no slush cocktails like most other AI resorts. The beer here wasn't the greatest either, some local brew. The white and rose wine with dinner was surprisingly good though although Im told the red was harsh.
The staff throughout the hotel were excellent, all very helpful and cheery, possibly the best Ive experienced in Europe. This ranged from the front desk to the maids including the bar staff. As others have quoted the Animation Team work extremely hard but they are without doubt the most shocking performers on stage ever. I'll vouch that none will make Broadway. However its worth turning up at the nightly show as its so bad it becomes funny.
The beach wasn't great but as we were there with family including a young toddler we were happy by the pool which was nice. Enough sunbeds but you have to put towels down like everyone else. Tried the free pedalos a couple of times, archery, free scuba lesson in the pool so there's enough to keep you busy if you feel the need.
Go into Rhodes town on the bus, which you can get on outside the hotel for $3.50, and have a day exploring as it had lots to see.
Really enjoyed my holiday in Rhodes and if the management of this hotel put a few tweaks here and there it could be perfect.........but then again, maybe end up being a lot dearer.

I thought this hotel deserved a review. We booked this hotel because it was 5 star, which for greece i wouldn't entertain going anythung but 5 star. Right - the good things:- Clean rooms, exellent maid service, lovely pool areas. We stayed in a famiy roon with the partition which was nice. Breakfast lovely

Now the negatives: I've stayed in 5 star hotels and this definately is not! The buffet restaurant is nice- serves a mix of foods- but it seemed that anything left over from the day before made the meals the following day. Wide variety but definately not 5 star cuisine. The A la carte your allowed to go to once per stay- we went to the italian, but again it was just ok- nothing special. The lunch time taverna gets packed- queueing like school dinners. absolute chaos- sometimes no tables. Definately cannot cater for all hotel guests, just isn't big enough.
The jacuzzi is freezing

Now for the entertainment- Three words...'what a joke'. for the whole week- all they did was mime to songs and wave their arms about. It was terrible. All we did was laugh at them the whole week- that was our entertainment. Pool side games silly.
We had terrible weather a few days so the show could not commence(lucky for us)! So everyone gathered in reception for a quiz! A Quiz! we felt like we were in a caravan park.

A 5 star hotel for me means robes and slippers in our room, mini bar stocked daily, choice of restaurants, and an entertainments team who can sing.

The beach is ugly- shingle.
We paid 50euros for our son to scuba- we were told they'd been gone for a few hours. when we went for the brief, they were put into groups. My son and his pal waited for 2 hours before getting a 20min scuba swimming out from the shore.
complete con.

If you can afford the little bit extra go to the holiday village across the road- looks amazing! But if your'e looking for a busy resort then don't stay here- Kolymbia town is awful.
I never write reviews- but i wouldn't want people to book here and be disappointed.

My husband, 4 year old daughter and I stayed for a week in June and what a fantastic week we all had. This is a very good family hotel, so was perfect for our daughter who loved every minute of her week. In fact this is the best all inclusive we have had.
Our hotel room was great and had a partitioned area to separate us and our child. Our bed was a king size which was great and very very comfortable.
The pool areas were perfect for what we needed - we used sunloungers in between the shallow pool and games pool as our daughter kept flitting between the two. She didn't really use the children's pool as she can swim and it was too shallow for her. There was the usual reserving of the sun loungers so we played the game and reserved the ones we wanted each morning which was fine. You're not supposed to but everyone does it.
The daytime entertainment for children by the Fun Club run by the hotel was very good adn our daughter really loved getting involved. She did use the Thomson's cluba couple of times but although Chloe and Colin were lovely and enthusiastic they were limited in what they could do.
Despite what another review says we thought that the evening entertainment was spot on - some of it was very very funny. Don't miss The Love Boat - we haven't laughed so much in ages. The animation team work their socks off all day and then put on shows in the evenings. Well done to them! The only show we didn't really like was done by a diffferent team and that was a bit naff. The absolute highlight was the Pool Party. This was the first time they'd done one so we were really lucky - the pool area was transformed for the evenign with bunting, ballons and lighting. A disco was erected, and a bbq and extra bars were put in place. An floating sponge mat gang plank was attached to the edge of the pool so that you could attempt to run along it to the end - there was a queue forming very quickly as children badgered parents to have a go. We said no at first but gave in, just like other parents! Our daughter had the time of her life runnign across it and falling into the beautifully lit pool and swimming back for another go. Fireworks finished off the evening.
All the staff we met were incredibly enthusiastic about their jobs, in particular Nikos the barman who was always pleased see us and have a joke.
Food was wonderful, with lots of salads and great choice. We went to the Asian restaurant one evening - this wasn't very good but the service was great. They do try to sell you over priced wines but will bring house wine for free if you ask.
We had a late flight so we asked for a courtesy room to have a shower in, which was no problem.
Thank you to all the staff at the Atlantica Aegean Blue. We had a fab relaxing break.

Aegean blue hotel was brilliant, the food was good especially for me being a vegetarian, there was a separate Vegetarian corner, rooms were comfortable with a fridge, very clean and we had a good outlook over gardens. The swimming pools were great for the toddlers we had with us. Entertainment was very good for the children and adults later, only downside there was it was early May and it was outside so a bit chilly at night.
Things I didn't like :-
I must warn people that all of us were covered in mosquito bites, most of these happened at night in the inside bars as all the large doors & windows were always open, so just be warned and take some precautions (we didn't until too late)
The beaches adjacent to the hotel were not very good they were very coarse sand and very stony.
Outside the hotel there was not much locally in walking distance, just a few bars & restaurants, one main street about 1 mile away with shops.
We did get a bus to Rhodes town, bus was on time but so many people, there seemed to be no limit on how many driver would let on, it was like the London underground at rush hour – avoided buses after that and booked trips with local agents a bit dearer but got a seat .
Overall a very enjoyable holiday
