Marathon Hotel

Shouldn't be an all inclusive hotel. The hotel itself was nice, however unless you get it for less than £400 for a week I wouldn't bother, the food was the same for lunch and dinner everyday and it wasn't great, however meals in the local restaurants were relatively cheap and quite nice. Sunbeds were always reserved, if you were lucky enough to get one, the chances it are it was broken. The bar men are abit grumpy and sometimes, you could que for upto 10mins to get a drink and you could only get one at once. The hotel offers no entertainment but there are many bars which do on your doorstep.

As you will know from the price, this hotel is not top quality. But this hotel is friendly, clean and welcoming. I stayed here for a week with a friend and we both enjoyed our holiday. The pool is clean and big enough, the food is edible and you are likely to find something to like at every meal. The staff are mostly friendly but as in anywhere there is the odd miserable one.

I would recommend this hotel to young couples and families but I warn you that you will have to fight for a sun bed as most people did. Also the Air con is 7 Euros a night if you are not there during the time it is free.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room that is next to the club as music is played outside until the early hours.

The hotel is basic 3 star. The room was spacious and clean. The meals as we were with the all inclusive deal were average in tastyness and variaty. The location is between Rhodes and Lindos and very close to Panagia Tsambika beach so that was a plus. The price was 100 euro per night and we stayed six days. I guess that if we'll go again in Rhodes we could try somewhere better...

When you pay £350 for a week long all inclusive package holiday it is very hard to complain about anything. For the money you pay the hotel is exactly what you require. The outside pool area is lovely despite being surrounded by broken sunbeds and the food fills you up on time everyday. The night porter (john), the every present restaurant manager and the day barman (tony) always had a smile on their face and put a smile on yours. The 'management' team though always seemed to look angry and unhappy whilst despising anyone laughing (maybe because they don't themselves) . Other little matters also make this only an average hotel. For example refusing service at the bar 30 seconds after last orders when many customers have been despite in the queue for half an hour, and turning people away for lunch if they happened to have a takeaway sandwich and return early for a day out. These little matters detract for the smiles provided by the aforementioned staff. Also ignore and advertising you see for "entertainment" it does not exist.

Overall you get what you pay for.

You go to bed in an air conditioned room after a full day of sunny, cocktails and well fed you wonder. . .can you really complain?

Room Tip: A room near the pool (on the ground floor) does make life easier

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Marathon. We were there last year and enjoyed it so much we decided to return, we did have reservations as we had read it was under new management. We had a fantastic time. The hotel reception and dining room staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, so much choice; one of our party has a wheat intolerence, we mentioned this to the dining room manageress, she went the extra mile to ensure the food was suitable and we had no problems at all. A big thank you to the ladies who kept our rooms beautifully clean, and a huge thank you to Tony at the Pool bar, always a friendly smiling face.

Room Tip: Block 100 , some rooms have sea views

We holidayed here last september for my husbands 70th Birthday and our 15th wedding anniversay. we are seasoned travellers and travelled abroad many times staying in hotels, cruises, the lot. We did not pay a huge amount for our holiday £470 per person so knew it would not be 5* but certainly did not expect what we got.We booked with Thomas cook which showed the hotel closed for the winter three weeks after we left. When we arrived we were told the hotel was closing the day we left. The first few days were ok although not as advertised, the all inclusive times were changed, there was no afternoon tea, no greek night, and the food was cold with a very poor buffet selection. We asked after the first night if we could change rooms as ours was quite dirty and were moved to the top floor alongside an all night bar. The second week the room was not cleaned, the pool was not cleaned, the food became non existant and we were told with three days to go that if the beer ran out there would be no more so not to drink so much. The last two days the all inclusive was stopped just a choice of two meals at each day, the last night the only food on offer was aubergine pizza! we ate out. They drained the pool before we left the hotel and staked away all the furniture and childrens play area, black bin bags were placed over the lights and we were told to serve ourselves drinks. We only saw the rep once, we complained but nothing was done. On returning home we entered into correspondance with Thomas cook and who said they were not responsible and passed us to Olympic holidays, for six months after sending photos or mould growing in the pool, filty pool furniture, broken stones arouond the pool and unrefigerated feood which had been left out hours and many letters we recieved no compensation.I would never stay at an Olympic hotel again in my life and will no longer book with Thomas cook. If you have booked to stay at this hotel please, please change your booking. There are wonderful hotels nearby, some of the thomson ones looked amazing. You will be disapointed if you go there unless you like to holiday in a slum. This is not a sour grapes review it truly is awful and is such a shame as Kolymbia is quite nice but we ended up spending over £350 buying food and drink over two weeks because everything in the hotel was so poor and prices were very expensive because of the euro.
