“Nice hotel - Shame about the very poor food”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

Just returned from the Marathon Hotel.

Good points :
Friendly staff and reasonable room size

Bad points :
Very poor food, both in choice and quality which was rarely warm let alone hot.
My son who enjoys Pasta was nearly threw up at one meal as the sauce tasted as though it had been cooked in fish stock.
Very hard to get a sunbed round the pool (the only place there were any available) due to very high amount of non British holiday makers leaving towels down overnight, making it almost impossible to get a sunbed.
British tourists in the minority, mainly German, or Eastern block nationalities who on the whole were very rude and clearly did not know what queuing up meant.
All inclusive bar, very strict rule on no more than 2 drinks per person when queuing up, which resulted in very long queues and a guillotine in the evening at 10.45, even if you had been queuing for ages , you are turned away if not being served by 10.45 pm.
A lot of loud noise in the late evening from surrounding bars and hotels.

I would not recommend this Hotel, there are far better hotels within a 15 minute drive (closer to the Airport) as you will see by my other reviews

this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in please take note of the bad reports as they are true if people say the food is good i dont know where the stayed before it was never hot the pool bar blasted music from 10am to past midnight every night so if you were a light sleeper tough bar area was dirty any drink spilt was not moped up the whole 2 weeks we were there the rep was hopeless in one ear out the other we had our golden wedding anniversary while we were there the management were told before hand but they did nothing for us not even a congratulations or a drink of plonk talk about tight ice cream was a joke first week was 4 scoops 2nd week was cut to 2 scoops and was served to one per person we had to ask for our room to be cleaned after 2 days great hotel if you love cold showers cold water every morning we dont lie about these things if you want to waste your money go ahead you have been warned

Room Tip: pick a room well away from the pool bar better still get another hotel

Overall I would have to say that my family and I had a fantastic two week holiday here. The staff made you feel really welcome and accommodating to most needs. Our family room was excellent, had a lovely sea view ,lean and the cleaning staff came in everyday if not to change linen then emptying the bins etc.The dining hall offered a good selection of food from breakfast to evening meal.My family and I found that there was always something for us and that it was pretty healthy and filling food but it may require some guests trying some foods perhaps they would never eat usually but it certainly wasn't a problem for us.The waiting staff were lovely and at the poolbar you could get unlimited drinks and ice cream and pizza at certain times but again, this never posed any problems to us.The pool was clean and we certainly spent a lot of our stay in it!

Been back from this hotel 7 days after 14 days holiday and would love to be back there. My grandchildren absolutely loved it. The pool was fantastic and generally the hotel was a very safe environment for them. No complaints about the food or drink we always found something that we enjoyed as did the children. It wasn't fast food so not to everyone's taste but we weren't disappointed. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful we couldn't have asked for more from our first family holiday with our grandchildren.

Absolutely disgraceful that this dump is rated "3Star". The ground floor accomodation we were allocated was awful, the bathroom was extremely cramped, mainly due to the wash basin being so HUGE access to the toilet was nearly impossible, also nowhere to mount the shower head, rising damp in the bedroom very smelly, we complained to management and Olympic Holidays rep but recieved very negative responses. The pool area is fine with plenty of sunbeds and decent pool bar service. The food was very poor and virtually the same every day, it arrived straight from the Kitchen barely warm and had to guess what was being served. NO entertainment as advertised. All in all this is the worst AI place we have stayed in 20 years. Please avoid this place.

Room Tip: Book a different hotel

we came back from this hotel 2 days ago and it was terrible, do not go to this hotel unless you take loads of money to buy your food, this hotel l would class as a 1 star as it is no way a decent all inclusive, the food is slops, everybody was in uproar about it, at one point we was given chicken that had been cooked, frozen and heated up in a microwave and still had ice in the middle, the puddings consisted of cut up sections of orange and brown apples, where it had been standing, you probably get chips once in a week, no ice cream unless its between a 2 hr gap in the afternoon otherwise its 50 cents a scoop, the bar area needs a good clean, beware, if you drink whiskey , there isnt none on the all inclusive, l had to pay 18 euro for a bottle over the road, it states hair dryers on sites, there is no air dryers unless you ask reception and she will get you one, but they probably only have a couple, the beds are really low with wood shelfs going round which you keep knocking your legs up, we had 4 days with no hot water and 1 day with no water at all, dirty cups and glasses where in our room all week, apparently you have to clear them up your selfs, if you want a good sleep beware, its really noisy as there is an all night bar next to the hotel that keeps you awake all night, of a night there is no entertainment what so ever, if you have children, take them else where as they will get bored, all in all if you want a good base for your holiday, t is ok just for a bed, but you will be pulling your hair out after a couple of days if you stay there, take plenty of money for food as believe me you will not stand it.

Stayed here in 05 with kids and found it to be a nice hotel 2 minutes walk from the centre of Kolymbia with its shops, many restaurants and bars. Room was very big and clean with tiled floors and good bathroom, lovely pool with outside bar and separate cafe for snacks. Main dining room food was ok, standard hotel food I would say of ok variety. Only downfall is that this is a hotel for the eastern european market. It was full of rude Russians and Czechs who put towels on the sunbeds at 5am and acted liked they were entitled, but we moved them off and took the beds anyway as it clearly states on the outside signs that bed hogging at 5am with towels is not allowed. I disagree with the bad reviews on here really as for Greek standards this hotel was worth its stars and I have stayed in some 4 stars of far worse quality. If you want a cental stay in Kolymbia I would recommend this place or the Niirides around the corner.

Room Tip: Rooms in the extented buildings to the North east of the pool are the best
