Just spent 10 days at the Mikri Poli Family Resort, Kolimbea.
Lots of good and bad points to this hotel, so here goes...
There are 5 fantastic pools all with plenty of sun beds around plus there is a waterpark within the hotel complex. There are 4 bars (inc 1 on the beach) served limited drinks) and 2 restaurants. The Laurel restaurant is very much like the usual all-inclusive buffet style. Food was fine, plenty of choice and always hot. Lots of salads & veggie options too. Little kids section too which was great. The Pool bar restaurant is only open 3 nights a week and you must book in advance at reception to dine in there onTues, Thurs or Sat - first time is free but thereafter you have to pay 2 euros pp.. This is also self service but is greek BBQ themed and the food is very good. Snacks were served daily from the Pool bar restaurant, the usual pizza, chips, salads, spaghetti etc all ok if you didn't want to venture up to the restaurant (as no costumes allowed in there).
The complex itself is excellent and very well looked after. The main pool area is where all the activity is,as it's quite close to the reception, restaurant, bar & entertainment amphitheatre. If you have someone who is not so good at walking, then request a room in either starfish or octopus or at least near the main pool. There are various types of rooms, some with a seperate bedroom, some with a sliding doors. We booked the sliding door room and actually got a 1 bed apartment in Starfish (room 212) which had a huge balcony getting the sun all day, facing the sea and the mountains (we had a beautiful view). The rooms have a kettle, fridge & hairdryer. The air conditioning is 6 euros per day but it is necessary (especially at night) so worth the money.
The animation team work tirelessly to keep everyone entertained with various sporty events both in and out of the pool. Well done to Luka, Manou, Anna & the team for keeping us entertained. The kids are really the ones that are entertained the most, culminating in the usual kids disco from 8.30pm every night. After this, there is the usual fun and games on stage or a professional show with traditional Greek dancers in the amphitheatre.
What was wrong with the hotel? Well nothing really, it simply just lacked English holiday makers which was such a shame as it was ideal for a nice relaxing getaway. We had our 13 year old son with us who was a little lonely but he still enjoyed himself immensely. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk to the nearest shops, bars and restaurants and 2 minutes from the beach (extremely rocky) so not great for those looking for a beachy holiday.
For what we paid, it was a bargain so defintely worth it. Not many English there but all in all, we had a great time.
