“Don't bother”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

Pool was lovely and the breakfast staff and pool staff very friendly...but that's about it.

Find another hotel in the amazing Amalfi coast. This is a 3 star hotel masquerading as 5 star. Not worth the stay. Restaurant was atrocious. We had to send the meal back on the first night and the next time we tried it 3 days later, I had food poisoning from the tuna and was sick all night. Reception staff generally do not care, not helpful, our initial Deluxe Room was awful with broken windows, a window boarded up, and we had to be moved twice before we were given a room to the standard that was expected. When booking on the site the picture clearly showed a different style room and we noticed 3 weeks later it had been changed to a different picture. What we ended up with was a deluxe sea view room which I would recommend every time as the others are just not up to standard and certainly not worth the €200+ price tag. I wrote by email 3 times before we arrived as we would not be there until 7pm and check in apparently closes at 6pm. Not one email was responded to. We were rudely phoned in our room at 11.30pm for a copy of our passports (please wait until the morning!). A coffee in the lobby was too much to ask (even though staff were merrily eating their lunch there), wifi was intermittent (this does happen a lot in Italy however) and our complimentary fruit and wine did not arrive at our room (as promised by booking.com) - when we raised this we were told there was no such offer and it was only when I showed them our booking which clearly stated it, the receptionist retracted and sent up a bottle that afternoon (on day 3).

Room Tip: Get the full sea view deluxe rooms

We always go away for Christmas and always stay in 5* accommodation. We booked Hotel Ratio through booking.com and got lost due to booking.com providing the wrong postal code on the booking confirmation, we are not talking just the next village!! The post code provided by booking.com was 84010 the actual postal code was 84019!!!! When we finally arrived I explained this to the lady who checked us in who just laughed! we were then given our room card and left to figure out for ourselves where the lift was and what floor we were on!! Staff were not welcoming or helpful. Just to add there was also a wedding in the hotel and there were children running around screaming similar to going to a children's indoor adventure playground.
We walked into a room (2nd floor to which we could still hear the children's screaming) which was cheap and tacky with cracked walls and peeling paint and a pokey little bathroom. I can honestly say that a premier inn or formula one hotel's looked more 5* than the room we were given. The bedroom was small and the bed had off white sheets with an awful brown blanket!! The Terrace was large with a stunning view but the tables were dirty and the chairs were falling apart the walls were cracked again with peeling paint.
I went down to the reception to complain that the room was unacceptable to which I was offered a junior suite with no apology and I paid the difference. The room was an improvement and the maid who got it ready for us showed us round, I honestly think that she should have been promoted to front of house as she was warm welcoming, friendly just the greeting you expect from reception of any hotel
We didn't go to the restaurant that night as we were tired from traveling, but we had a drink at the bar whilst the children still ran riot! The bar person did apologise for the noise from the children and said tomorrow shall be normal, he then went back to playing with his phone whilst the other member of staff searched the internet? We went down for breakfast the next morning which was a self service buffet, there were no other guests in the restaurant nor were there any staff we were asked if we wanted tea/coffee by a staff member when we had near finished our breakfast! Again poor service hospitality
We had a drive around after breakfast the costal road is stunning the town of Amalfi was delightful. On our return we chilled in the spa and booked treatments for the next day (Christmas day) we then returned to our room for a snooze prior to dinner, we were woken by what sounded like 20 children running and screaming up and down the hall outside our room (hardly relaxing spa more like disorganised crèche). I called the reception and was informed that they had just arrived the noise continued to which we decided enough was enough and checked out at 8pm on Christmas eve!!! The lady at reception said she had informed the manager we were unhappy and we were checking out but he/she clearly wasn't too concerned as we still had to pay for the 3 nights that we booked (we only stayed one) and he/she couldn't even be bothered to meet with us to see if they could make the situation better in any way. Someone needs to re access Hotel Raito's star rating as having stayed in many 5* hotels this hotel is certainly NOT 5*.

Room Tip: The maid and the view is the only thing I enjoyed about this hotel!!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review our property.
We are very sorry that you didn’t like our hotel because we work every single day to make happy every single guest.
We are also surprised by this comment wrote after just your departure because you didn’t give us the chance to be much helpful.
In any case we would like to point out as follow:
- The postal code provides is not wrong. It refers to Vietri sul Mare, where Raito Hotel is located
- The staff, as per our high standards, took care about all your requests in a helpful way even when you asked for a private parking, we have never guaranteed to any other guest.
- We have any internet connection at the bar pc, just our software needed to work
- During the Wedding and Christmas Eve, the children who were staying in the Hotel raised their voice because they were particularly happy for the party but they didn’t seem to be rude or disrespectful to you or to other guests
- The amount you paid was for a Not Refundable Offer. Anyway when you decided to leave the Hotel we were displeased so we balanced your extras, that’s why this complaint sounds a bit strange because too far from our standards and our reputation on booking.com and tripadvisor website.

Best regards

Here in low season -few guests. I received a slpendid-view room, first floor.
LOCATION: this is a wondeful place for those who look for isolation. The SPA is part of the way someone should exploit the Raito. A free shuttle takes you to Vietri sul mare that is a top destination itself for its ceramic artworks nd sandy beach. I don't recommend it as base to explore the Amalfi coast as the connection roads do have morning traffic. You could think of few days on the Amalfi coast and then 2 nights here for sea&Spa. If you come here, stay here.
POSITIVE: 1st floor: remarkably long and beautiful room terrace with "the" view, hard to match. Very nice Restaurant hall, with also outdoor seating under "loggiato" balcony. Excellent food and super kind service in all compartments. Fine and carefully taken care of plants and flowers -truly 5 stars details in the outdoor areas. Afternoon service in the rooms, as you'd expect.
NEGATIVE: remarkably small bathroom; room furniture is nothing speacial, to be a 5 star.
Conclusion: definitely a fine choice if you come looking for peace and isolation. Small corporate meetings, Romances, Special Occasion can be very well hosted. Service kindness and Restaurant quality are truly 5 stars. Value is obviously top in low season due to the very low fares.

While living in Napoli, we spent the weekend in Salerno to see the festival of lights. Hotel Raito was mostly empty because of the season, and we booked a suite with the most incredible balcony and coast view for a fraction of the price. The room was stocked with champagne, fresh fruit and rose petals. The lounge area was beautiful, with views overlooking the plunging coastline and a baby grand piano next to the bar. Overall, the location was pretty perfect, the room was romantic and our stay was top notch.

Overall - this is not a good location for seeing the Amalfi Coast. It's more difficult to get to, isolated and inferior. Stay at the other end in Sorrento instead.

This is at best a 4-star hotel masquerading as a 5-star. Stayed a week during September with a group. Fantastic vista, decent food and nifty facilities, but oh how the details bite. I really got tired of hearing "Don't worry, we'll send someone down right away to fix it." Our door latch stayed broken for 2 days - we had to find the maid to let us in with her pass key. The TV never worked nor did the free Wi-Fi. Omitted wake-up calls were routine. No courtesy coffee/tea in the room or anywhere on site. Hard beds, useless pillows. Notwithstanding the earnest staff and excellent bartenders, the place seemed to lack any overall management. During a week's stay, there was no evidence of anyone in charge. No maitre-d', no manager, just staff running about putting out fires as best they could.
The biggest complaint is the Hotel's isolation and its bizarre shuttle schedule to the local small town. The shuttle didn't run between 1 and 4 in the afternoon or after 9:30 at night. Hardly conducive to a trip to the beach or a late evening meal. The "deluxe" patio rooms are the best choice but be prepared to like your neighbours since the "partition" between rooms is a bunch of vines. And the barking dog next door is a big negative.
Mr. Manager: Please don't answer and say you are sorry and will do better. Similar comments have been on the site for over a year.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel Raito after driving down from Rome..
Great points...Lovely location overlooking the town..very professional staff in the restaurants and bars..excellent standard of accommodation..( We stayed in the new spa wing )..Very very clean, high standard of decor..very nice pool area with plenty of sun beds and free pool towels..restaurant food, although expensive was excellent including the breakfast buffet..
Not Great points...although the staff were very nice the lack of local information from the front desk left you with a sense of unhelpfulness you shouldn't get from a hotel of this standard..sometimes the language barrier made this seem worse than it should be..our room entitled us to free entry to the spa areas with sauna etc but was closed most of the time ( Didn't open at all until the afternoon)..
Overall...Not too many places to eat in Vietri or places to park..!! But a 10 minute drive to Salerno opens up a load more opportunities..very nice hotel to stay in before driving or siteseeing the Amalfi coast..

Room Tip: Can't say if it's worth the extra cost to stay in the spa rooms as we never got to use the s...

The Raito hotel is a wonderful experience, without having to sell a kidney to afford. It's location offers unbeatable views of the sea, whereas the services are top notch.
The pool and the multitude of bars it offers complement the overall presentation, while the staff is as one would expect them to be: extremely professional.

You'd need a car to easily get to/from, however I believe a transfer service is available. Don't know for sure, as we rented one...

Room Tip: All rooms are great, with the usual premium for sea views. However, there's little point in spen...
