“Great seafront location, disappointing otherwise”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

My family and I used this hotel as a base for vacationing in the Amalfi Coast area, Pompeii and Naples. We chose this location due to being better value for the money, compared to a sorrento and also because it is better connected to the Amalfi towns, Rome, Naples and Pompeii. We were pleased that our room overlooked the sea, with great, expansive views and soothing ocean sounds. The front desk, restaurant and other staff were courteous, but spoke limited English.

We soon found several disadvantages. The location is 15 mins away from Salerno by car, where you have to go to get anywhere. Vietri is supposed to have a train station as well, but we were directed to Salerno as the station was closed. Salerno is 15 mins away by taxi, a 15-25€ ride - radio taxis and luggage at the higher end. Bus service is available but not very accessible. Taxis from Salerno are not easily available at night. Returning from a visit to Naples at 10:00pm, we found it very hard to get a taxi back to the hotel, and the bus service had stopped. There was a line, serviced a lone taxi was driver making repeated trips from the station, each about 20-30 mins long!

The hotel has below average amenities. Wifi barely works or not at all in the room. The breakfast is very bare bones. On one day, we were missing something as basic as bread from the already limited selection. The waiters reason was that his "colleague forgot to order it". The cake was stale, clearly leftover from the prior day. The room TV never worked the 4 days we were there. The bathroom was tiny.

Bottom line, if you plan to spend most of your time in the Vietri-Sul-Mare area and are willing to put up with average service, this hotel may be a relatively inexpensive option. However, if you are looking for a base for nearby attractions as we were, then you are definitely better of at another hotel in a Salerno.

Room Tip: Ask for a seafront room.

The hotel location is just awesome. At walking distance from the sea, the restaurant offers a gorgeous view, and so does the balcony in the room.
Staff is ok. The rooms could / should do better. Hot water takes a few minutes to become available when showering. I told the staff, and they promised to take action.

Room Tip: Rooms on the seaside offer a fantastic view.

We had a great time at this hotel. The view of the Mediterranean from the breakfast solar and roof restaurant was incredible. The food was good but the waiter, Alfonso, made dining there a shear pleasure. His advice on food, wine, and things to do in the area was perfect. I hope they take care of him. The room was large and the beds comfy but the bathroom didn't seem like it was designed to have human beings in it. This hotel is a real bargain for the price and the view is priceless.

Room Tip: Don't go for the room with a view, just hang out in the Restaurant and Solar for your meals.

We have stayed six times at the Hotel Bristol, and hope to return again soon. The hotel is friendly and accommodating, with a wonderful staff and wonderful food. The views from our room were stunning. Staff was not only helpful with all our needs at the hotel, but went out of their way to recommend interesting things to do in the area. The location could not be better. The Autostrade are very accessible as is the Amalfi Coast. Many interesting sites in the Naples-Salerno area are just a few minutes away, so the hotel provides a good jumping off point to see the entire area. Nearby favorites are Pompeii, Ercolano, Paestum and the Reggia at Caserta. This time staff gave us directions to the Grotte di Pertosa, beautiful caves just over an hour away. We always get our room mezza pensione, coming back to the hotel for dinner every evening. The menu is nicely varied, and a special treat was dining al fresco on the upper terrace. The views are lovely, as are the views from the breakfast room in the solarium. Try the Hotel Bristol -- you will love it.

Room Tip: We love rooms 428 and 430, overlooking the sea on the top floor of the hotel. These have the best v...

I took a Cooking class at this elegant, cosy Mediterranean hotel with a breathtaking view on the Amalfi Coast. I can tell you, it was one of the best gift I could do to myself. The only negative note was the food: it's so good that I put on six lb (!)
They have to add me on their list for the next class...

Great family-run hotel located in Vietri sul Mare, which is a small town not far from Pompeii, Paestum and the famed towns of the Amalfi coast, and right next door to Salerno, which has a super fast hydrofoil boat to Capri. We stayed with our two kids for 5 days, and found it to be the perfect location for day trips to see those incredible sights while staying in a warm, friendly hotel and experiencing life in a small Italian town. I'm prejudiced since I happen to love Italian food, but the food at the restaurant's hotel really is spectacular, especially the seafood dishes. Vietri is also known for its hand-painted ceramics, which are really beautiful. We bought a dinner set for 8, and they were very helpful and packed and shipped it to our house, and everything arrived without a nick. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to see the sights of the Amalfi coast.
