“Wow. Just wow.”

We went for a quick break with friends to this wonderful part of the Italian coastline. Anyone who has read my reviews will know I will pass criticism, but I literally found it impossible to fault the place. The ambience in what feels like a converted monastery (and no doubt was) it superb - quiet, calm, but wonderfully atmospheric and even has a confessional (which, naturally, we had to visit as we confessed to having an amazing time!). Open your bedroom window to view the spectacular sights of the Amalfi Coast, sit on the balcony and have drinks in the balmy late evening sunshine. Eat in the restaurant and the food is utterly superb, whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. I cannot tell you how fast I would return to this place. Our send-off, with the chef personally giving us recipes for a wonderful tomato pasta sauce including the ingredients picked fresh moments before from the hotel garden, topped it off. We didn't try the spa, in fairness mostly because it was a short visit and the views were all we needed, but if it is anything like the rest of the hotel, it would be superb. Lovely bathrooms, superbly comfortable beds, and a great experience! Well done, guys.

Room Tip: Nymphaea had amazing views

Monastero Santa Rosa is top notch; the property, location, rooms, dining, and service are all impeccable. The service is personalized and refined. The views and the infinity pool over the sea are just jaw dropping. Our Deluxe Sea View Room overlooking Amalfi was quant and cozy. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room features and amenities are modern. The rain shower and separate tub are both lovely. The heated bathroom floors are also a wonderful addition that I haven't seen outside of luxury ski resorts. I am a frequent guest of five star hotels including all major chains (Mandarin, Montage, Four Seasons, Aman) and also luxury boutique hotels/resorts. Santa Rosa is as good as anyone and the location will make you want to return as often as possible. Every member of the staff remembers your name and personalizes service to help you have an impeccable stay.

Room Tip: Get something overlooking Amalfi, not just the sea.

This hotel, a former monastery is placed on the edge of a cliff in Conca die Marina, overlooking Amalfi. It was originally a monastery and after being spotted by an american passing on a boat ,was rebuilt over a period of 10 years. The position of the hotel is breathtaking; As is the infinity pool, the surrounding gardens and walkways.

The spa is top class with every possible treatment being available. The restaurant was overseen by Pasquale and he does a great professional job, however the rest of the hotel staff need more training. In a hotel of this class there has to be a rapport between staff and guests, and this is missing here. They try but do not have the experience needed . Restaurant food is served on a beautiful terrace overlooking the pool and the ocean however lunch was mediocre and dinner was also just fair with small portions that really are not worthy of a 5 star establishment.

Rooms are very small and although the bathroom was beautifully finished, the bedroom was spartan , we had a suite and the additional room was tiny.

Every room overlooks the sea so you would expect large windows but in keeping with the ' Monastery style of design they are small and do not allow you to see the beautiful vista below.

In summary, this is A beautiful place to unwind , decompress and relax however for a 5 Star hotel the staff and spartan rooms were a little disappointing.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea but my advice is to look before you unpack.

We stayed at Monastero in July for our wedding anniversary. I can compare the hotel to Auberge hotels or Four Seasons smaller properties. The location is to die for - on the edge of the cliff. Shuttle to and from Amalfi marina takes care of transportation, since we were not those daring souls to rent a car on this cliff side road.
Welcome reception rivals the comfort of the room. A note about breakfast - literally our best meal during the entire stay in Italy.
Infinity pool is beautiful, use for photo ops as it is not crowded and quiet. It is not often that I wanted to move in and never leave, but at Monastero I was tempted. Huge thanks to the staff that runs this marvelous place, you really put a lot of thought into what makes a hotel not only wonderful but memorable. And our Monastero stay created memories for a life.

Best view on the Amalfi coast: Inifiniti pool on the edge of a cliff overlooking the coast.
Astonishing service: Whatever we asked for they delivered above and beyond
Amazing property: Unbelievably well-organized and luxurious
Spotless rooms: Immaculate
the list goes on and on ...

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms here

It is difficult to explain how utterly fantastic this hotel is, in virtually every respect. The view is beyond stunning, the grounds, facilities and rooms are tastefully and expertly appointed and maintained. The staff are, without exception, ultra-friendly and ultra-professional. The spa is luxuriously equipped and a haven of total relaxation. The overall atmosphere is one of peaceful luxury. The attention to detail is unrivalled in our experience. The food is magnificent, combining modernism and innovation with the very best of local traditions and ingredients. All other aspects of the service are, quite simply, superb.

Is it cheap? Definitely not. Is it worth the price? Absolutely and without a doubt.

We would return to this idyllic place in a heartbeat, and are sad beyond words that it will be much longer than that before we do so.

Set on an unbelievably dramatic perch up on a hill this hotel has views which were beautiful from everywhere in the hotel. And the pool is equally unsurpassed in its views and is in a lovely setting. The staff was very, very helpful. We were there in peak season and the hotel never seemed crowded—I think it was close to full, but it handled the number of people staying in the hotel very well.

The Monastero Santa Rosa is not close to Amalfi—by close I mean it is not walking distance. But the hotel has a shuttle that will take you to Amalfi and pick you up there. There is also a bus stop (the local bus) right in front of the hotel. We used that to get to a starting point to do “the path of the gods” hike which worked out well (if you want to do this, at the end of the hike, take the 1700 stairs down from Nocelle, the stairs end at a road and walk 10 minutes toward Positano and when the road comes to a fork there is the bus stop for the bus back to Amalfi, the first little cafe down the fork to the left sells bus tickets. Take the bus to Amalfi and change there to the bus to Agerola and that drops you back in front of your hotel). The hotel will also offer to arrange a car for you (which saves you the steps down from Nocelle; but all of that and figuring out the bus was part of the adventure for us.).

I recommend the sun deck at night. Not crowded. Amazing night views from high up at this unique location.
