“Bella Lago Como experience”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

This is probably in the top 5 hotel experiences my wife and I have had, we were upgraded to a special top floor balcony suite with outdoor spa. This place is truly elegant and located in a great position on the lake facing Bellagio. We stayed in early October where the weather was a bit cool and cloudy unfortunately. Food was excellent, only minor drawback was the limited fresh fruit at breakfast, otherwise it was near perfect. Staff were first class, and facilities excellent.

Room Tip: Even though our room faced the lake, other rooms facing the garden would have been good, because , f...

We stayed here for a week in September. The hotel is really lovely and our room had a balcony so we had a fabulous view over Lake Como. We were on a bed and breakfast basis which was just as well. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very efficient. However the evening menu was not that brilliant and the wine prices were astronomic. We only eat in the hotel on one occasion and found some delightful restaurants locally which had excellent food and reasonable priced wines. I prsonally felt the breakfast food could have been hotter. It was usually luke warm.but an excellent choice and plenty of it.
Unfortunately this hotel's reception staff do not seem to be able to help with organising excursions and even though we enquired about one of them they did not get back to us by which time it was fully booked. Other less expensive hotels locally were far more "on the ball" with excursions etc. and reception staff helped us more than at our own hotel ! The boat trips on Lake Como are a must but beware of the so called bargain leather goods at the various villages as they are not such a good bargain as you might think.

Room Tip: We had a second floor room with balcony overlooking Lake Como. Air con was good. Beds are huge and v...

This is a very luxurious hotel. Everything you expect from the price and location is delivered, and more!

It is a beautiful, peaceful place. Everything you can think of is catered for. They even have a proposal garden if you are thinking of popping the question.

Private boat rides can be taken from the private jetty, where you can get close to the properties of George Clooney and Richard Branson.

It goes without saying that this all comes at a price, and it is not small. However if you want to mix with the rich and famous, this is where they will be.

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo exceed all our expectations for a beautiful vacation on Lake Como. The hotel arranged a car service to pick us up at the train station and we were met on time for about a 40 minute ride to the hotel. The hotel is a beautifully restored villa directly on the lake. Our room was lager and we had a bottle of Presecco waiting for us in the room when we arrived. The staff is wonderful and helpful in choosing restaurants and excursions. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the setting couldn't have been more beautiful. We had massages in the spa and took advantage of a special promotion for a second mini treatment at no charge. The ferry is confidently located across the street from the hotel we felt we did not need a car, the ferry was very convenient to visit he many beautiful towns around the lake. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful hotel, we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Overlooking lake is worth the price

Having got married in December 2013 we found ourselves delaying our honeymoon due to my Mums illness and subsequent death. When we felt the time was right we decided on a honeymoon in Lake a Como at the Grand a Hotel Tremezzo. On arrival we were overwhelmed by the superb service, all of the staff were fantastic and could not do enough for us. The hotel itself took my breath away as we walked into the entrance hall, we checked in and we were immediately upgraded to a lake view room, we were then shown to our room which was spacious and wonderfully decorated and had a treat if sparkling wine and chocolates waiting for us, a honeymoon gift from the hotel. We spent 10 wonderful days there, the first 5 we didn't move from the park side pool, soaking up the sun, relaxing and drinking smoothie cocktails. We ate at the pizza restaurant and the fondue cellar bar, the food was very good if expensive. We had cocktails in the bar most evenings, sat looking over the lake. Breakfast was a feast, so much choice and eaten in the restaurant overlooking the lake. I enjoyed a couple of treatments in the spa which were good but again a little expensive. This was a truly fantastic experience, we splashed out and it was meant to be a once in a lifetime trip, however we loved it so much we are busy saving up to revisit next year! Only 11months to go and counting

While the location is great and the building is really impressive, you are really paying for the service. All of the staff were so helpful and friendly. We were there on a business trip, organising a photoshoot around Lake Como, and the concierge really went out of their way to try to help us.

We stayed on two occasions just a week apart. The first time, we paid for a lake view room. While the view was indeed spectacular, the room was more 'faded glamour' than outright glamour - quite small, with only a bathtub and shower over and slightly faded decor. The second time we were in a 4th floor garden view room and much preferred it. It had clearly been renovated recently and felt much more modern and in line with our expectations of 5 star hotels. We would have forgone the lake view for the sake of a recently renovated room.

The facilities are also great - the indoor spa is particular luxurious and the grounds are beautiful. Note that contrary to the photo, you have to cross a main road to get to the lake side lido and pool. We tried the fondue and Terrazza restaurants, which were all great. The bar food was slightly less impressive (and the waiter seemed a bit harried) but still tasty.

Would recommend.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the renovated rooms.

We stayed at Grand Tremezzo in October when the pools had just closed down and the high season tourist traffic had slowed down. Unfortunately, this meant there was little to do at the property except look at well-to-do elderly couples slowly stroll across the property. There were plenty of great views of the lake, but with the rain and fog, there were few activities that were possible.

The room we got was a bit outdated and had a strange layout with a closet door that wouldn't close. The bathroom had dark green marbled countertops reminiscent of 1980's faux Roman architecture and the shower was so narrow that the water sprayed everywhere. The floors and walls were also rather thin as we could hear every footstep above, including a lovemaking session from the upstairs guests.

Overall, the hotel was nice, but the overall vibe was a bit too stuffy and pretentious for our taste.
