My company had its annual customer conference at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Arrived by lake ferry after spending previous night at Best Western Continental Hotel, Como town. I was bowled over by its historical facade; old world charm; attentive, personable well groomed staff, floating swimming pool, fantastic gardens and wonderful interior features. Meals were fantastic. Rooms well appointed; double bed wonderfully comfortable; nice little touches, chocolates on the bed, mechanised window shutters that blocked out the sun and made sleeping during the night very easy. I faced the manicured back gardens which made it green and so quiet. Would I stay again? Absolutely. Told my wife cannot wait to take her there. However, I'd like to get a great deal on a room rate as its Euros 320 per night.Process you quickly to get your room; quick to get a taxi sorted for you; staff friendly and smiling and very attentive. I loved it here. Tom C

Weve stayed in a lot of hotels and this is right up there with the best of them, fantastic from the moment we pulled up at the front and were greated by the bell boy, amazing view of the Lake and a beautiful bar and artificial beach with floating pool on the lake itself.

Beautiful views from the bar, restaurant, spa and the rooms (totally recommend the Lake view rooms) this hotel is not cheap but you dont expect it to be its the best hotel on the Lake...!!! if you want premier Inn then look elsewhere..!!!!

We hired the hotel boat and were taken around the island which was amazing and would toatlly recommend this and we also hired the private spa which is hidden away in the beautiful gardens which also was amazing and would totally recommend this experience...!!!!!

Room Tip: It has to be Lake view...!!!!!!

We held our reception here after our wedding in Varenna and it was absolutely amazing. The location and the staff are above anything I've experienced anywhere else. From the moment we began to plan our wedding we felt at ease with the hotel. Alberto helped us greatly and anything we wanted he was at hand to help. On the day itself all of the staff were fantastic. I cannot fault one single person. The food was amazing, as was the atmosphere. It was worth having our wedding there for the cake alone! We stayed in a rooftop suite on the night of our wedding and again it was perfect.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I hope to go back there someday in the near future.

Let me start by saying that we stayed for 8 nights in this hotel, whereas most people seem to stay for 3-4 as part of a wider tour of Italy. We also didn't have perfect weather, very mixed and this is not a wet weather destination. They are just not geared up for rain! Our transfer from Milan took just over an hour, a beautiful drive along the lake, to be greeted by some of the lovely staff who work in this hotel. Our room wasn't quite ready so we had lunch at the Terrace restaurant which looks over the lake and the floating swimming pool. This is where we got our first taste of the extravagant prices. 20 euros for a very mediocre club sandwich was a little over the top we thought, even in a hotel of this standard.

I booked a Lake View Prestige Room which is a renovated room and we were on the 4th floor. The room was beautiful but small and overcrowded with furniture, which we then rearranged to make better use of the space. No tea and coffee in the room, no ironing board and iron (for safety reasons apparently - instead you need to use the expensive laundry service) and not enough wardrobe space or hangers for our length of stay. Minor irritations that wouldn't have mattered had we been here only for a few nights. To be fair, we decided to run with the 10 euro room service charge and order hot drinks of an evening after a few days, only to find they didn't charge us anyway which was very kind.

Lake View rooms are very noisy. The room was hot so we needed to keep the doors open at night but the road noise was pretty deafening and ran all night. Bring ear plugs! Or book a room with a garden view, quieter and that lake view can be seen from so many areas in the hotel that you don't need one from your room. The balconies are not really big enough to sit on anyway.

Breakfast in the hotel is fantastic, with a full service buffet and a tremendous choice of hot and cold options, plus an omelette/egg station. This is very good value and the staff who run the breakfast service are absolutely wonderful, anticipating every need and preference. Special mention here to Igor who looked after us and really made our stay. What is strange is that the other restaurants in the hotel are not of similar standard. The service is great but the food is disappointing and when you're paying this sort of money, you expect better. We tried most of them, The Beach casual dining was mediocre and L'escale (fondue restaurant) was so awful I actually complained. 125 euros for some very questionable meat, served with 4 bizarre sauces (mayo, guacamole, chilli and tartar!) and a small dish of rice (which wasn't pilau as described) with half a cherry tomato on top! We questioned a few things and the manager didn't like it at all, he actually shouted at me when I asked for a latte and then complained when he brought me a cup of milk with no coffee in it! Apparently I asked for it incorrectly, despite the fact I'd been drinking lattes for days elesewhere in the hotel with no problem. The concierge apologised but I'm not sure they took it that seriously. After this experience we decided to leave eating in the hotel and wandered the block or so to the local cafes and restaurants which charge an awful lot less and serve much better food. I can recommend Azalea in particular. The number of Grand Hotel umbrellas outside these restaurants was an indicator that others felt the same. It's a shame because the hotel is missing a trick here, why not offer slightly better prices, more options, better food and keep people in the hotel?

We also had a fantastic meal at the Suisse in Bellagio (turn right off the ferry) and we would have liked to have returned but the ferries stop running in the evenings which makes it more difficult to eat anywhere but Tremezzo at night. You can take a water taxi but this adds to the cost of your meal and there's no guarantee one will be available. For this reason alone, I wonder if it would have made more sense to have stayed in Bellagio, but there's no doubt the facilities at the Grand Tremezzo are unrivalled.

The spa was a godsend, particularly as we had a few rainy days. The manager of the spa is wonderful, they use ESPA products and they have them all available for guests to try at no additional cost. The pool is lovely and there is a hydrotherapy facility both inside and out. They could do with a few more loungers, it does get busy at about 4pm but there is herbal tea on tap and that stunning view to sit and look at.....

There is not masses to do in Lake Como, it's expensive to get around and using the ferries regularly soon mounts up. Particularly if you want to go long distances. I had intended to visit Como but we didn't do this in the end. Bellagio shopping was great, Villa Carlotta is next door to the hotel so it's worth a visit but the real star sights are Villa Balbienello in Lenno (Casino Royale was filmed here - make sure you take the guided tour, it won't be what you're expecting) and Villa Melzi gardens in Bellagio which are beautiful. You can also buy bus tickets (from the Butcher's shop down the road!) which are a bit cheaper.

As I've already said, we didn't have great weather so we couldn't make as much use as we would have liked of the hotel's man-made beach but when the sun did come out, lying there overlooking the lake was a wonderful way to while away a few hours.

Another key point to note is that everywhere is cobbled when you are out and about so bring sensible shoes and pack a warm jumper even in summer. The weather can turn suddenly and it can be chilly crossing the lake. An umbrella is also essential as nothing is under cover but you can borrow these from the hotel.

Other good services in the hotel that should be mentioned were the free wifi and two PCs available for use, plus the DVDs (in English) and the sweetie jars! Although we didn't like the food very much, the Pizza restaurant which opened towards the end of our stay is perfectly fine.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, although I doubt we would return as we feel as though there are so many other places to visit. If you do come here you will love it, but bring lots of cash and be prepared for things to run a little less smoothly than in the UK or the US. It's just the way it is but you won't regret staying here, I'm sure of that.

Room Tip: Don't pay a premium for a lake view, it's not worth it and it's too noisy.

Wow, what a place.

After spending some time tossing up between various locations around the lake, we were glad we chose Tremezzo. It felt like the hotel and the few small restaurants / shops around Tremezzo were isolated from everything else, but with only a 5 minute drive to Menagio, you had access to a supermarket, laundromat and other conveniences.

The hotel had only just opened for the season, so the outdoor pools were not really swimmable (too cold). Only the main restaurant was open, so our dining options were limited, however if you were here in the main season I can't imagine there is much of a reason to really leave the resort / town.

Parking was in front of the hotel, with the valet making life super-easy for us - getting the car in the driveway - or if you don't want to wait, they will stop traffic while you cross the road to get to your car.

We took two inter-connecting lake-view rooms - my advice is to make sure you spend time on the balcony admiring the view at sunrise - just amazing.

The rooms felt a bit compact as we also had an infant cot in one of the rooms, but it was still very comfortable. You need to keep in mind that they were designed 100 years ago. The bathroom had a shower over the bathtub, but huge mirrors with great lighting despite not having a window. King size beds were very comfortable and a proper (wooden) cot was provided for free for our baby.

The breakfast room was amazing - glass enclosed terrace with amazing views from all tables. Fantastic breakfast spread of Cooked to order eggs, huge variety of teas, good mix of breads, cereals (including 100s and 1000s to add to your cereal), 6 types of honey, fruit, and of course hams and cheeses.

The bar staff were super-knowledgeable - they looked & behaved like they belonged in a bond movie.

We didnt get a chance to try the day spa, but did go for a swim in the indoor pool - it may look small, but you can do 'laps' by swimming against the strong jet. The amazing view was also available from the pool - one of the best indoor pools I've swam in!

Special thanks to Dario in the breakfast room for his marvelous suggestions on things to do. A beautiful place to stay - I look forward to trying it in the high season.

The room which we had overlooked Lake Como , and in the morning we both agreed we had never woken to a nicer view, across the lake , with snow crowned mountains and lovely villas on the hillsides.
We could not find a fault with this hotel, wonderful staff , lovely food and a view to 'die for'.
