“Most amazing room and scenery”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Arrived at the hotel and from the beginning the service was outstanding. We had a rooftop room with a jacuzzi, the room was unbelievable. The food in the a la carte restaurant was not very good. The starter was cold and did not have a lot of taste. My husband had lobster to start and that was also cold. We asked for a specific wine which they serve, but took them 20 mins to decide to tell us that they do not have any left. So we were sat there without a drink and cold starters. The main course, I had rack of lamb, very average, I think I can cook a better one at home. The food was overpriced and very bland. My husband did complain, could not understand how they can charge such prices for terrible food. So we looked outside the hotel for restaurants in Tremezzo. We booked La Darsena which is a short walk but it was pouring with rain so the hotel called us their own taxi service. Very expensive 10 euros for a very short ride. We also dined at Al Veluu which is not far from the hotel. The view is to die for. Very nice couple that run the restaurant, the husband is from Italy and the wife is from Walthamstow. The food was good, I had the pasta and my husband had steak. I do feel that staying in Lake Como the food is designed for tourists. Would of loved to have home made pasta but unfortunately could not find or be recommended anywhere. The hotel itself had lovely staff, very kind and attentive. Loved the pool on top of the lake. Just laid there and looked at the beautiful scenery. Behind the hotel there is another pool which is very well kept with a bar. If your lucky enough to have the roof top corner suite with your very own outside jacuzzi, you will not be disappointed. The view is breathtaking especially when you are sitting in the jacuzzi with a glass of champers. Overall the hotel is a good 5 star hotel. The only thing that let it down was the food.

The hotel is stunning. Beautifully maintained with fantastic gardens, and the views of the lake are spectacular. We stayed in one of the corner junior suite rooms that offered lakefront views. The marble in the bathroom was gorgeous. The only negative with regard to the rooms, because of the charm of the hardwood floors, and given the age of the hotel, you can hear every creek when guests in rooms above and adjacent are moving around. The spa treatments were very relaxing and very qualified and courteous staff. The breakfast each morning was fresh, provided a variety of options for every taste and the staff was extremely attentive. Meanwhile the food at the "beach" was mediocre at best. We erroneously went to grab a pizza at the pool, only to discover it was a price fixe menu at 45 Euro per person for pizza, a few pieces of barbequed assorted meats and dessert of fruit that wasn't even ripe. The staff here seemed less well trained than in the main restaurant. I had to ask for a glass of wine 3 times before it was delivered. My daughter requested a hot chocolate, which they claimed they couldn't provide (meanwhile, all they had to do was go down a flight of steps to the bar area and get it). For the price, the food and service at the beach and pool were disappointing. As a result, we didn't attempt the fine dining restaurant and instead opted for hopping on the ferry and found some great restaurants across the lake in Bellagio

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor so you aren't awakened in the middle of the night by creaking fl...

I stayed here on my honeymoon and I was very impressed with the grandeur of the hotel. The property was impeccably maintained, gorgeous gardens and pools. The views from our balcony of Lake Como were breathtaking. Many restaurants on site, no need to leave the resort if you don’t want to. I especially liked the wooden boat ride with a private tour of the lake, while enjoying a bottle of wine and the views. Good location in proximity to Bellagio for taking the ferry/water taxi. Also a short ride to Lugano, Switzerland that offers high end shopping, the hotel arranged for a car for us to be taken around the area for the day. The staff was very nice and helpful, but compared to the other 3 hotels I stayed at in Italy, the language barrier was more prevalent here with fewer members of the staff able to speak English.
Overall, this was one of my favorite places to stay while in Europe and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend.

This is a truly grand hotel. Tremezzo is a smaller town on the lake so it is peaceful and the view from the hotel is amazing. Our suite was tasteful, luxurious, and had a small but lovely balcony overlooking the lake. The bathroom was a marble paradise!! Breakfast is wonderful and we also had an amazing dinner in the formal dining room. The hotel is very close to the boat dock so traveling between towns is easy. Villa Carlotta is next door and has spectacular gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. If you go, take the hike up the hotel's garden to find their mascot. We hope to return to Como and will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a prestige room facing the lake - worth every penny and recently renovated.

We have been looking forward to going t this hotel for a number of years and we enjoyed our week here - however it is a good, not a great, hotel.

There is much to recommend this hotel - a great lakeside location, superb rooms (our rooftop room was spectacular with a lovely jacuzzi and one of the best bathrooms we have seen. The views from the Terrace are lovely, especially watching the sun go down and the lights go on in Bellagio. The location is great for trips on the ferry or to Switzerland. We had a great, but very expensive, meal in the Terrace restaurant which had superb service and we enjoyed the Pizza party by the pool (however why is the beach and Pizza place not open each night ?). There are some truly fantastic staff at the hotel - Gabriel in the bar, Jenny at Reception, Rachele in the Rooftop and Igor in the restaurant were all outstanding. We were also lucky to see the spectacular birthday fireworks - set to music over the lake which was truly memorable.

However there are a few points that the hotel just gets so wrong. I must admit hate seeing hotels advertise their services only as a customer to be denied use of them at the hotels instigation because they have resold it to a group - this happened at this hotel and was very annoying. They clearly care about making more money than their customers The meals are expensive and the choice and food quality was average at best - this explains why you see so many fellow hotel guests at the nearby trattorias. Breakfast was very average at best - an average selection and having to pay extra on top of the hefty room rates for pancakes was a joke - back to the money grabbing attitude of the hotel. Worse of all were the management - the manageress and her fellow tall manager wandered around fawning over the large parties or travel account managers visiting on freebies whilst ignoring the paying hotel guests in a very rude manner. We were there a whole week - neither manager spoke or even acknowledged us despite passing us on many occassions. If they treat their customers like this, I truly question how they treat their staff.

We left disappointed at the poor value for money we received.

Room Tip: Have a lakeside room or don't bother as it is the spectacular views that are the star. Eat a...

We stayed here for 5 nights with our daughter. The location has a beautiful view of the lake and mountains and is indeed a grand hotel. The surprise was that the lake pontoon pool is across the road from the hotel and not in the hotel grounds as we had thought from the hotel photos. There is another pool in the lovely gardens of the hotel and a great indoor pool with water jets etc and view of the lake ofcourse. Beautiful teas are available complimentary at the indoor pool. Bottled water is provided complimentary in the rooms and there are big jars of lollies/candy in the hotel foyer which was a hit we saw with young and old. However, there was no fruit, flowers or other treats at any time brought to the room except for a bag of four chocolates for the 3 of us on arrival. The turn down biscuit was hard and seemed stale.

The prices for the menu on the terrace are high compared to the little cafés and restaurants just a short walk from the hotel but then it is a five star hotel!
We ate twice in the Cave restaurant in the hotel which was fun - fondue or cooking oneself on a little hot plate.
Staff are friendly and eager to help and ensure guests are happy. The breakfast is a good selection of all the usual with a chef making omelettes and other eggs on the terrace to order.
All up an enjoyable stay and would recommend without hesitation.
