“Something special”
Reviewed 9 November 2012

We stayed here for our anniversary in July, hoping for something special and we were not disappointed. Booked a balcony room which was large and well appointed. Excellent bathroom. Staff were welcoming and eager to help. Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful, great feeling to have a position like this in a small luxury hotel. Food was homemade and excellent standard too. Evening meal so good we did it twice rather than try and find somewhere as good. Not cheap but then really good things seldom are! We will be coming back again.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony / lake view - worth every penny!

The first stop on our European trip was a week {yes a week} on Lake Como.
I had picked 'Hotel La Darsena' in Tremezzo off the internet as it was the only hotel on Lake Como situated over the lake with a balcony so we could admire an uninterrupted view.

On the website I had seen two rooms at either end of the hotel that had two balconies {one at the front and another bigger verandah at the side} so I had specifically asked for them (we were travelling with another couple) when booking.

That was exactly what we got and they were fantastic!! The room was decorated in a very stylish manner with a view out over the lake that was to die for!! The side verandah also had a beautiful view and we spent some lazy afternoons eating olives looking out over the lake. The room was very clean and had a King size bed and a modern bathroom with a spa.

The service was second to none. Tiziano, Ezio, Maria and the other staff were friendly, hospitable and always ready with suggestions, ferry times, restaurant ideas - whatever you wanted to know!
Breakfast was included in the tarrif. Each morning downstairs in the restaurant, a huge array of Italian delicacies were laid out in buffet style. We enjoyed Italian cheeses, fruit salad, prosciutto, ham, eggs, yoghurt and cereals with coffee that was to die for!!

The restaurant is also open for dinner each night. It stands alone as one of the best restaurants on Lake Como. We ate there twice, and both times the food was superb and we were always given a table overlooking the lake. The view was only topped by the originality and the quality of the food. Marcello the chef and his team provided great service and all the meals were reasonably priced.

There is a ferry stop and bus stop 2 minutes up the road, car parking is provided for guests and there is an array of other fantastic restaurants within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. I would highly recommend it as a great base to explore Lake Como and all it has to offer. Tremezzo has a real 'village' feel and is a lot quieter and less 'touristy' than Bellagio.

Room Tip: If you want one of the great rooms we had, book early and request it....they are beautiful...

We have a holiday home in Tremezzo and pass this hotel many times a day when there. We were moving to a new house and as a result needed a place to stay whilst sales and purchases went through. La Darsena was our immediate choice due to it's location and the three nights we stayed there were absolutely faultless, Rooms are spotless, modern and pristine; meals are of an excellent quality and, most importantly, the staff superb. It is an ideal place to stay and we cannot recommend it highly enough.

La Darsena is an exceptional, small, family run Hotel literally on the Lake. The rooms are clean, the food is excellent, and all at a tremendous value . The hotel makes for a great base to get out and enjoy the small Lakeside towns which makes Como so unique! I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

We stayed for four nights and chose this hotel mostly on the basis of other reviews and the price range suited us. It is beautifully situated as everyone says and spotless. We enjoyed the minimalist decor combined with the floral decorations in the dining room. The two meals we had in the restaurant were excellent and great value considering the quality of the food and the service. Breakfast is also very good with excellent coffee. We stayed at the end of October when things were beginning to shut down for the season eg some of the ferry services, as well as other hotels and restaurants (although La Darsena stays open until January). Given that the weather was just on the turn and the nights were getting dark early on, we would have liked a lounge where we could sit and read accompanied by some tea or a glass of wine. I guess that in the summer that is not such an issue but even so because it is lakes and mountain country the weather can be pretty changeable. Anyway that being the case, it gave us a good reason to sit and take tea and read in the very grand 5* Grand Hotel Tremezzo just up the toad next door to Villa Carlotta. To be recommended - as is doing the same in the Hotel Villa D'Este at Cernobbio!

Room Tip: The second floor rooms do not have balconies and are attic-type rooms but are fine, especially if it...

We stayed for 4 nights in October. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Darsena, the room overlooking the lake was superb. We ate at the hotel on 3 nights and enjoyed the meals and breakfast was pretty good as well. The staff were helpful without being intrusive. We were lucky with having wonderful weather for our stay. We did wonder why the outdoor balcony seating was not utilised but we didn't ask assuming it was because it was late in the season.

Room Tip: Book a room with a lake view.

Upon arrival into our room we found a chilled bottle of bubbly to celebrate our anniversary - a lovely touch and welcome to our three night stay. Room very spacious, clean and with all you need. Breakfast excellent continental overlooking the lake. We decided to dine here on the first evening and as a restaurant it stands alone as excellent in its own right. We went for the fixed dinner which every course was simply well cooked and tasty. Staff very helpful and chatty. The only reason for not awarding five stars is location of room. We booked late in the day and all lake facing rooms already reserved so our room overlooked main road.

Room Tip: If you desperately want lake facing room, contact hotel directly before confirming. That said, if yo...
