“Marvellous base for exploring the mid-lake area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2012

We spent 4 nights at this wonderful family-run private hotel and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone else looking for a base in the central Lake Como area. Being set well back from the busy lakeside road, it is extremely quiet and encourages a slow pace. The owners (all multi-lingual) took extra time to make sure that we had all we needed and to give advice on the best places to visit.

Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable, providing access to a private balcony with views out to the lake. The toilet/shower room was clean and everything worked without fault. The air conditioning was efficient (once we realised there was an over-ride link to the balcony door) and the TV delivered programmes in a wide range of languages (although we used it very little).

Breakfast was from an eat-all-you-want cold buffet with a good selection of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, meats, breads, rolls, juices, etc. It could be taken in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the lake.

We chose to leave our hire car in the garage (out of the baking hot sun) during the day and made full use of the free minibus service which the owners run to and from the ferry terminal. At 15 euros, a mid-lake day ticket allows you to hop on and off any of the ferries to Lenno, Bellagio, Varenna and Mennagio.

The car was then put to good use in the evening when we returned to the lakeside to explore the local restaurants. (I'm afraid we can't recommend the hotel evening 'snacks' - there is a much wider range of excellent dining available down in the town).

Other than this very minor criticism, Hotel La Perla is faultless and we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we return to this particularly pretty part of Italy.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have a lake view

Well, not quite as good as some people have said. The plus points .. the view is great and Lake Como is spectacular. The rooms are very clean and nice and above all in the heat of summer well cooled. .. The pool is nice but the surroundings area for chairs is a bit small so if you are late arriving as we were you are not going to get a chair in the sun.. a pity.

The hotel does not have a resturant but does do simple snacks .. antipasta with melon, great, lasagne think Tesco microwave meal. The bus down to the lake only runs twice a day, too early for us in the morning and two early on an evening if you are eating out. A taxi into town is geat and you just phone when you need collecting and he is with you in 5 minutes so eating out and not drinking and driving is easy. So a good hotel but not as good as the two we stayed in just before, hence the 4 out of 5 ... The family that run the hotel are great and you can tell they own it as how many of the staff in a hotel have gold Rolex watches.

A really pretty hotel with excellent views of Lake Como. Each room has its own veranda with table and chairs and are very clean.

It was a real treat to wake up with sunlight shining through the window, and then look out at the beautiful lake and surrounding mountains. A romantic dream which only Italy can provide.

A great swimming pool is on offer too.

The staff, especially the two lovely Italian sisters who run the hotel with their husbands, are a joy meet.

Secure parking is offered also.

Great value - family run home away from home. No restaurant but the evening 'snacks' include fabulous lasagne and other Italian treats. Every room has a patio with an awesome view. Immaculately clean - even the garage is tiled! You won't regret this!!!

Room Tip: First floor has best patios and the pool. Third floor lobby

My husband and I spent four nights at the charming Hotel La Perla in June, 2012. After the drive up the hill we were a little apprehensive about the location of the hotel but how wrong we were! We were given a warm welcome and shown to a room with a panoramic lake view. The room was well appointed and had a lovely balcony complete with table and chairs for soaking up the sensational view either in the morning or after a long day down on the shores of Lake Como.

We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel each day and although the dinner menu was described as a snack menu it suited our needs perfectly. The experience of sitting on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine or beer overlooking beautiful Lake Como and the breathtaking mountains is not to be missed!

Most of the other reviews mention the great hospitality of the owners, Clelia, Sergio, Mara and Luca. The reviews do not exaggerate! Attention to the needs of guests is uppermost in their minds and they are happy to suggest loads of things to do around the lake. We spent a great day visiting Villa del Balbianello and the Tuesday market in Lenno at their suggestion. We hired a speed boat for a few hours on the lake another day and this was organised through the hotel without any fuss. There are also many walks to do in the quiet rural area surrounding the hotel.

La Perla is not close to the water and there is a drive up a winding narrow road but the reward at the top is worth every bend! Warm hospitality and great facilities in a charming hotel with a sensational view over one of Italy's most perfect locations. It was wonderful!

Room Tip: The view is all you need!

This was our visit to any of the Italian Lakes . We choose Lake Como and the La Perea after reading reviews and looking at the hotels own website. Everything in the rave reviews is ,without doubt, fully justified. The two sisters and their husbands are what all hoteliers should be , warm , welcoming, helpful , informative , attentive and always their when needed. The room we had overlooked the lake and surrounding area giving you breathtaking vistas without the noise of a main road. The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle bus twice in the morning and twice in the early evening, what a great idea , you can leave your car in the outside car park or even in their underground garage and all at no extra cost. Breakfast is included in your room rate and offers a good selection of food for most tastes. Although not offering a full restaurant menu in the evening their "snack" menu offers more than most people may need after a busy day exploring the lake and it's many towns/villages. The bar offers a good selection of wines , spirits , beers and soft drinks and all at sensible prices. How could you not like this place. Just perfect . We cannot wait to return when we are next in the area. Thank you Clira , Mara , Luca and Sergio.

There are not enough superlatives to describe the experience of a stay at La Perla. My wife Gillian and I have just returned from a wonderful 5 day stay there. The family who runs this small hotel , 2 sisters Clilia and Mara and their husbands Sergio and Luca really understand what travellers want from a holiday. Other reviews talk about their amazing customer service but that's where I'd like to start. They really go out of their way to make your stay special. We arrived in Tremezzo on the hydrofoil at about 4pm and were planning to walk up to the hotel. We dropped into the tourist information centre and they called Luca who came and picked us up straight away. They were full of helpful hints on what to do and where to eat. They took an interest in our days out and helped me a plan a day trip to Switzerland with the train timetables. The hotel is spotless and maintained to a very high standard better than many 4 and 5 star properties in the area, we had a lovely room on the pool level with its own terrace with breathtaking views over Lake Como. Also all rooms are air conditioned which is a bonus in the height of summer and not something that many of the older converted villas have. The location is superb. Yes it's about 30 mins on foot from the lake or 10 mins by car but the advantages of this are two fold. Most of the lakeside properties are by a busy main road so if like us you like to escape noise and avoid traffic being away from the lakeside is a really winner. Secondly the views from the hotel are amazing. The landscape changes dramatically over a 24 hour period as the sun arcs its way round the mountains. We also had a magical evening on the terrace sipping cold pinot grigio and watching a terrific electric storm richochet round the mountains. The snack bar provides good Italian staples (Caprese sald, Braesola with parmesan and rocket) and a good choice of pasta/salads and main dishes with some great wines for all tastes (all Italian of course). I can recomend the Vitello Tonnata. The pool is an ideal size which is great for cooling off after a day sightseeing around the lake or just relaxing in the sun on one of the many sun loungers. We are definitely thinking about our next trip and hope we don't have to wait till next summer!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor with a lake view and terrace as this is the pool level and has gre...
