“Wonderful - looking forward to going back”
Reviewed 10 June 2009

After fighting our way through the narrow roads along the lake, jammed with buses and heavy trucks, the hotel was a sanctuary. Set back from the road among a lush garden, the small door way in the back of the hotel to the reception is like stepping through the looking glass. Inside are large rooms with high ceilings, a piano in the drawing room, and a reading room overlooking the gardens - imagine an Agatha Christie novel.

The gardens are large enough to find your own space - and with a small child were excellent, as there was plenty of space to run around in, without us having to worry. Being on the edge of the lake, it was also straight forward to go for a swim.

The hotel is also next to the ferry stop, so getting down to Tremezzo and Belagio is easy. If you want to walk in the hills around Como, you can do so directly from the hotel, although we didn't.

The room was simple, but clean, and with a lake view, it was quiet and had great views. The hotel is old though, so don't expect the Hyatt - the rooms are simple, and the fittings old fashioned, including in the bathroom. We made the mistake of having breakfast in local cafes which cost as much as having the buffet downstairs - which looked excellent.

Dinner tasted excellent, and the setting, in the garden with a view over the lake in the evening, made the experience very romantic. The staff were at all times extremely helpful, whether it was organising warm milk for our child, or providing drinks in the garden. A gem of a hotel, that transports you aware from the real world.

We spent a week at the San Giorgio in May, 2009 and loved it. The hotel was built in the 20's and has been in the same family ever since. One great advantage that the hotel has is that it is on the lake side of a rather busy road that tranverses the west side of lake como. Other hotels that we saw had the road between the hotel and the lake so that in order to get a lake view the noise and distraction of the road would interfere.
The garden of the hotel is lovely, and one can walk a short distance down a tree lined path to take the boat all over the lake.

The breakfests at the hotel were classic italian style. We had dinner at the hotel each night that we were there except one, and found the food and service excellent. The menu was somewhat limited but there are several restaurants in easy walking distance.

The only downside that we saw was the bathroom was small with only one sink, which was not a problem for us, but could be for others.

The hotel was meticulously clean. There are three large public rooms which really captured the atmosphere of the 1920's which we enjoyed.

We would definitely return to the San Giorgio.

The place looks like a dream in the photos and promises to be a wonderful vacation. But dreams are not reality and promises are not always kept. The place over run with ants and spiders. Internet is available for 8 euro per hour and only in the lobby. The rooms have no air conditioning nor any fans to move the air. Unless you happen to have an end room there is no way to get a cross breeze and so the nights are hot and uncomfortable. The service is spotty with some [one or two] employees that are passable and the rest have an attitude problem. It was once called "silent insolence" - just this side of overt rudeness. I overheard two employees speaking English to non native English speakers [one Indian and one Russian] but the next day neither could or would understand what I wanted in English and pretended not to understand my limited Italian. [Understood elsewhere though.] The stay was not much fun and we left early for another hotel where we enjoyed ourselves. This place was a bad choice.

We married in August 2008 at Villa del Balbianello and some of our guests stayed at San Giorgio Hotel and absolutely loved it.

I have to start with the gardens, which were by far the best part of the hotel! They are simply stunning! If you book make sure you have a room with a view of the lake. You will never tire of looking out of your window or sitting on the balcony with a glass of vino to the scenary around you!

The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much for them to help you. The food was good too. My favourite part of all though was having cocktails, surrounded by my loved ones, with the sun beating down on us over looking that lake and those mountains, it was truly magical.

As many people have said the only negative point you can say (if there has to be one) is about Lenno itself and the lack of public transport after 9pm. But seriously if you are wanting a holiday where you can get around a lot, don't stay in Lenno. It is magical to feel quite removed from the hub of all that noise and hussle and bussle...I simply love every second of it!

There are four places to eat there and each of them are good.

Lido de Lenno is a restaurant and beach bar by day and a nightclub by night, and Italians travel far and wide to go there...we had our wedding reception there and danced until the wee hours and it was fabulous!!!!

Honestly, the entire area of Como is simply stunning and not one that you will ever tire of either looking at or visiting. Can not wait to go back there soon!

From the minute we stepped into the hotel we were impressed.
Our room was very large with private bath. It faced the lake with french doors that lead to a balcony. In the evening we could go down to the bar get a drink and either sit on the porch or balcony looking out at the lake. Large common rooms for reading playing cards watching Large screen TV. When weather is nice
beautiful gardens with lawns rolling down to beach and lake.
Lawn chairs to lay on and read outside or sunbath. Great breakfast in the morning with lots to pick from. Walking distance to ferry and restaurants. We found a jewel and cant wait to go back. My husband was very disappointed in leaving and could have spent our whole vacation there.

Lake Como is a breathtakingly beautiful location -- truly, it is the "blue of heaven descended on earth."

San Giorgio Hotel has one of the most beautiful of all situations on Lake Como. The property slopes right to the shores of Lake Como, and the grounds are terraced with palm trees, flowers, and even an arbor.

Taking the small elevator up to a room, and opening the long shudders, and walking onto the balcony is a wonder -- no matter how many times one visits (we have stayed four times) or how many times one takes-in this view ! The rooms, themselves, are large, furnished with comfortable chairs and old chests and tables, and have wooden floors and large baths.

The solarium and reading rooms on the ground floor contain original furnishings from the time of the Hotel's founding in the 1920s. The hotel remains owned by the same family -- who maintain beautifully the architecture, furnishings, floors, and lighting.

Dinner may be taken in a dining room with long windows or on the open terrace -- both overlook the lake. Dinner is well-prepared and served --- and the menus change each day. Breakfast is a very nice buffet.

San Giorgio Hotel is simply "dreamy" -- with its beautifl location, situation, and timeless amenity,

I've stayed at the San Giorgio twice and I loved it both times. The best thing it has going for it is it's location directly on the lake with wonderful views. Make sure to request a room with a lake view and balcony.

The 3-star hotel was built in the 1920s and has all the charm of that era. The rooms are large and comfortable and furnished with style but not luxury. Very enchanting all around. The grounds are nice too. There's a terrace, where breakfast is served in nice weather, and a large lawn with lots of lounge chairs facing the lake.

The only drawback of the place is it's location in the the town of Lenno, which is on the west side of the lake near Tremezzo. Lenno is very small and doesn't have much too offer in the way of restaurants or sites so having a car is key. The hotel has plenty of parking spaces.
