“IDEAL FOR COACH TOUR HOLIDAYS”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2012

We booked an holiday with Riviera travel and thoroughly enjoyed it. This hotel is ideally situated being just across the road from the Lake Como with glorious views of the mountains and the buildings across the lake. Right next door to the hotel is the wonderful Villa Carlotta with it's strikingly beautiful gardens (although a lot of walking up steep steps is required.)
The hotel is an impressive building and the room that we had was modern and very clean. The only downside was that we were at the end were recycling bins were allocated and the sound of bottles being thrown into the bins in the early hours of the morning did not go down well!!. However, after the second night of disturbed sleep we did acclimatise to this and also the sound of passing traffic from the main road that runs by the hotel.
We found the restaurant staff to be super-efficient and meals were very good. Breakfast was typically Italian so anyone expecting a Full English breakfast would be disappointed.
There is not a lot to do at the hotel after one has had the evening meal and it would have been nice to have had some entertainment.
Overall we would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the south end of the hotel as the sound of bottles being thrown in recycling bins will disturb...

We stayed at the grand for a week at the end ofAppil on an organised tour. The hotel was fine and the staff we absolutely great, the food was ok for the first couple of days but became a bit repetative and if we were stayng for more than a week would have been disappointed with the sameness of the fare. Also found the cost of a small bottle of water at dinner (4 euro) was extortionate. The location on the side of the lake and opposite Bellagio was fine but we we were an hour away from Como town and the same distance from Lugano. As far as walking outside the hotel then you can forget it ,there wasn't much of a pavement and the way the Italian's drive you were taking your life in your hands each time you stepped out of the hotel. All in all a nice hotel but the facilities outside the hotel were a bit lacking

Set right on the banks of Lake Como this refurbished hotel has a 19th century elegant feel, but with high quality facilities - including probably the best (and cleanest) bathroom we've ever experienced.

Staff were very efficient, helpful and friendly.

Restaurant set up to deal with coach parties (who were the main customer group when we were there) so don't expect an intimate dinner for two. Food, however was OK.

Check out their excellent web page.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms are smaller than standard rooms and are subject to road noise. Don't bother, sti...

In March 2012 we visited the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia -Lake Como. The location of the Grand is superb, on the shore of Lake Como with most of the rooms having a beautiful view across the lake.

The rooms are excellent, with plenty of space and very clean a full bath. The view across the lake is is really special from your room, restaurant and panoramic bar.
The dining room looks across the lake and for breakfast you can sit outside ..... In the evening we sat inside for dinner which was always excellent and to a very high standard.

Overall a great hotel in a lovely area with easy access to boats going to all places around the lake

I stayed in this beautiful hotel for a week last March and cannot praise it highly enough. The views are breathtaking. The staff absolutely fantastic, friendly, efficient and welcoming. The food in the restaurant superb. My room was lovely, spotlessly clean with every comfort. I have read some reviewers complaints about the "awful" coffee served at breakfast, presumably too strong, there is a very simple solution, half fill the jug provided with coffee and top up with the hot milk, also provided, to your satisfaction. Problem solved! The restaurant staff are incredibly hard working, on more than occasion whilst I was there there were more that 300 people at one sitting and the staff coped admirably, cheerful, smiling and unflappable under the watchful eye of the charming and courteous manager Claudio.
Cadenabbia is ideally situated for exploring all the other enchanting places around Lake Como, villas with magical gardens, the Abbey of Piona is a must see, medieval towns and villages, the town of Como itself with the funicular to the village of Brunate. The people are unfailingly friendly and helpful. Truly an unforgettable holiday in an absolutely fabulous place. I cannot wait to return later this year.

We stayed here for a week at the end of September and had a superb holiday. We had a first floor front room with terrace balcony. The room was large and comfortable. The stairs up to the shower/toilet etc were steep and might be a problem for some.Only slight fault was the lighting which was not too good for makeup.

The restaurant was lovely, the food excellent and the staff pleasant and v. efficient.

The hotel is in an excellent position for the ferries and of course the garden nx door. We used the ferries a lot and found lots of good places to eat. Even our weather was perfect.

Would definitely say our stay was 4 star standard

Room Tip: First floor front have terraced balconies.Road slightly noisy

Really enjoyed my stay here for a week on tour organised by The Travel Department. One disappointment here was the size of the rooms. We paid for a room with Lake view and indeed the views were awesome, but room small and stuffy. The food, however was excellent and the restaurant staff caring, but the staff in reception were very unhelpful regarding timetables etc.
The Grand is right beside the lake and perfect for boat trips on Como - overall very good, but with a little effort could be excellent.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a lake view room
