“Disappointing”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

This hotel was clean and comfortable but could be so much more. It has the most beautiful dining room on the top floor with magnificent views over Lake Como to Bellagio. Unfortunately the dining experience doesn’t match the setting. Staff were overworked, surly and unhelpful. Dining felt like eating in a very posh canteen. People were queuing for tables standing alongside diners who had been fortunate enough to obtain a table. The hotel was unable to provide tap water at the evening meal, nor were they able to provide diners with a glass of wine with their meal, only a bottle! Not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
Our room was on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel with a view of the car park, however it was comfortable and very clean. It was also quiet being on the other side of the hotel from the busy main road. Unfortunately just a few feet from our door there was a row of bins – laundry, we think. They were there when we arrived and still there 4 days later when we left, obviously common practice to leave these bins littering the corridor.
This is one hotel I wouldn’t return to.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are without a view but very quiet.

We had a 2 night stay at this beautiful hotel. Stunning views over the lake. We had a balcony room on the 2nd floor. The room was split level so very spacious. Reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included but you have to get in early if there are bus tour groups staying as they do not replenish the breakfast Buffett. Also dinner in their restaurant was disappointing its a set menu and unless you get there upon opening all the good tables are taken. It was very cafeteria style. Hotel is well situated to catch the ferry over the lake and visit Villa Carlotta next door. Great restaurants nearby too. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Just had a week at Hotel Cadenabbia, when we first arrived thought the decor looked a little tired.Having said that it would be spoiled if it was modernised.
We had a room on the 3rd floor, beautiful view of the Lake!!! Well worth paying extra.
Didn't realise we should have booked a balcony, would have been worth it!!
The pool was very quiet and well maintained, free towels.
Dining room has a beautiful view of the Lake. Staff very friendly!! A little slow replenishing the buffet. Food best we've had in Italy!!!
Wi-fi available in reception.
5 minutes walk to the ferry.
A lovely holiday, Hotel and surrounding areas lovely.
Would recommend this Hotel.!!!

Room Tip: Third floor. Remember to book a balcony. Take a kettle!!!!

We have just returned from 10 days at this hotel. . I liked the hotel very much it was well cared for and maintained. I could see that the hotel and it's setting would be much better for people with mobility problems than other hotels and locations around the lake. ( not that I have any problem , thank heaven)
Everything in the room worked well and the double glazing kept down the heat and traffic noise.
The hotel bar and dining room have wonderful views if the lake and provide an excellent vantage point for a limitless passive bird watching. There is a bird of prey called a Black Kite in the area and the sight of it swooping by the fifth floor window was wonderful.

The food in the hotel was a bit hot and miss but tended to verge on the grim mass catering style beloved of some Italian hotels. I have had much worse. There were some very good main courses based on meat.
The antipasti and desserts were made with ingredients bought by an accountant not a cook.

We escaped the frantic dining room a couple of tines for meals out. Not entirely to escape food but to escape the treadmill atmosphere in the dining room. Having said that the dining room was run extremely well run by the fantastic staff who smiled and set out to help the diners all the time. I was full of admiration of their calmness and efficiency in view of the pressure they must experience.

Room Tip: Our room with lake view and balcony was worth the premium

We have just stayed for 7 nights in the Grand Hotel. We had a lake view room with a balcony on the 4th floor. Very clean, good sized room. Comfortable large bed and large well equipped bathroom. The airconditioning was put to great use as the temperatures outside were reaching 40c. The balcony with 2 chairs and a small table was ideal for watching the sunsets over the lake. Double glazing was very good so couldn't hear any noise from the road outside.

Nice terrace with a small outside pool and plenty loungers to relax on.

Food was good quality although a little chaotic at times with everyone trying to get in ofr dinner at 7pm. We left it until after 8pm to eat and was far more relaxed.

Room Tip: Worth the extra money for a lake view room with balcony. Eat later for a more relaxed meal.

We were booked into this hotel by Riviera Travel in June 2014, and were on a lovely touring holiday.

The food in the hotel, both for breakfast and evening meal is superb. The buffet dessert and hors d'oeuvres were excellent. Unfortunately none of the food served buffet style was labelled, and this has been the norm in many hotels that we have stayed in. Eating dishes by sight, rather than knowing what they are is fine, but is not ideal if people have allergies or dislikes. One evening the restaurant was badly oversubscribed, and people had to wait a long time for a table. Also there was a 45 minute wait between some courses whilst the excellent staff caught up with things. They did do breakfast early for all or our group one day, so we did not miss out when leaving on an early trip.

Overall the room we were in was clean but needs refurbishment,

The beds are so comfortable. The shower worked well and there was plenty of hot water at all times. The shower however was in a bath and therefore would not be suitable if you have mobility problems. There was no kettle in the room, and I was told that they do not do this in Italy when I requested one. There were drinks in the fridge, but only plastic cups provided to drink them with. Also there were no glasses in the bathroom, just plastic cups. The television only had a few English news channels on it and BBC World was low volume. No balcony either which made drying socks etc difficult.

The roof garden for sunbathing and eating had lovely views. The decking and paving slabs there were loose and are in need of attention.

All the staff were efficient and polite. This is with the exception one man in the bar on the day of departure. I had no euros and wanted to pay for coffees by visa, he said "no" in an abrupt fashion. I went down to reception and they explained to me that he should have told me to pay for the coffee in reception. They who asked me to point out to the bar man that he had been rude to me which I did politely.

The reception area is the best I have seen for some years. Victorian at a guess well decorated and with spectacular stairs and mosaic flooring. Expensive Vases and also a display of statues etc. enhanced the entrance. The actual reception desks are small and not a focal point in the reception.

Wi fi was slow, and although there was no shortage of fee wi fi tickets, they only lasted four hours. This meant if you went online for ten minutes in the morning, you needed another to go online at night, Wi Fi was slightly better in reception and best on the 4th Floor roof garden.

We did not use the pool. One day when we did want to it was out of action. They were replacing the artificial grass and plywood boards around the pool. This could be an ongoing problem, the pool area ideally could be tiled or paved all over.

A good stay in spite of this.

Room Tip: The room we had on the 2nd floor faced into the back of the hotel with a view of the pool on the lef...
