Grand Hotel Cadenabbia

The room we were first given was like a college dorm. Sfter complaining we were offered a different room for 20 euros a day more. The new room was acceptable. The wifi passwoed and code had to changed every 4 hours. Breakfast was good but dinner was terrible. Everthing was expensive.

Room Tip: room with lake view

My self and my wife have just returned from a week in the Cadenabbia hotel. The hotel and facilities are indeed 4star,but the food would be kind to say it is 3star.Limited choice of cheeses and cold meats(virtually the same every day)at breakfast and poor selection of breads and fruit, half the fruit was tinned. The evening meal not much better, salad selection poor and same every night,if you got to the dining room a hour into serving(morning and night)you were met with empty platters and no one interested in filling them,at times the staff gave us the impression they were more interested insetting up for the next meal.It was a shame about the food because the hotel is in a wonderful position right on the lake and the hotel is a magnificent building

Room Tip: You have to pay extra for a lake view but it is worth it.

We spent a week at this hotel with friends in July 2014, travelling with Riviera Travel, and feel you ought to be aware of the good and bad points. We do not necessarily blame Riviera for the bad points but we do feel they are not getting a good deal from the hotel
First the good points - not many - the view across the lake and the mainly friendly staff
Bad points are fairly numerous.
The BEDROOM was 3m x 6m and this included the ensuite - (we had incidentally paid £170.00 extra for a lake view) - and had no where to store our suitcases.
Guests who were staying with Thomson told us how large their rooms were and their holiday cost was comparable to ours.
The GARDENS and POOL were dreadful. The gardens were grass and bushes and the pool was dangerous as the metal steps into the water were loose and could have easily caused an accident.
The SITUATION of the hotel to other amenities is very poor. There were two shops and two bars nearby. On asking where the resort centre was one guest was told 'this is it'. If you are going to be dropped off in the sticks your holiday provider should inform you before you book or at least offer an alternative destination. Ours didn't
The RESTAURANT. Whilst the views from the restaurant were stunning and the food was good there was a big problem with the hor d'oeuvres and desserts. The restaurant opened at 19.00 but some guests, including ourselves, liked to eat a little later, about 20.15. By this time the hor d'oevres and desserts had been almost demolished and were not replaced. We complained to both our rep and reception but only saw a very small improvement
As I said earlier I do not blame Riviera for all the negativity but I have written to them explaining our experiences as I feel sure a company with such a good reputation should seriously consider sending guests to this hotel again unless this 4*??? can get its act together

Room Tip: If you must go here then choose a room with a lake view as rooms at the back overlook rubbish garden...

The hotel itself is lovely however it is situated on a busy enough road . In my opinion it is a bit isolated but Lake como is very spread out anyway. The staff at reception were obliging and friendly during our stay and helped us with any plans we had. In particular the dining staff were impeccable and professional . Food was nice not as good as in other hotels that we have stayed in Italy. Both my husband and I are in our early thirties and we were the youngest guests by at least 30 years which made us a little uncomfortable. We were hugely dissapointed to discover that the bar did'nt do any cocktails and there was'nt any form of night entertainment. If you are looking for an uneventful holiday and are a more mature guest this might be just right for you.

I'm sure this hotel was grand many decades ago, which is probably when most of its current clientele began visiting. The lobby is a hodgepodge of Art Deco and grandiose styling. The suite was clean and well kept, but along with the rest of the hotel, is well overdue a makeover, and doesn't qualify for the price tag it comes with. Don't rely on the wifi access in your room, as the signal is weak and slow, and as many others have said, you will need a new access code every four hours. The location is lovely, being in the 'old money' area of lake Como, so many a restaurant choice within walking distance. However, this does make the area quite busy, along with a base pumping club boat moored up a hundred foot away. If you are looking for quiet solitude by the lake aim for the opposite side near Verrena.. or simply turn off the hearing aid like I'm sure many a patron of this hotel would have done. This hotel could be amazing, but with its silver pound returning year after year you can see why they fail to up date the image. Easy parking, pleasant staff.

Stayed here two week ago on half board we had a room on the first floor over looking the Lake
what a wonderful view. Room was good and always cleaned new towels every day and bed changed twice during the week. dinning room was huge you could also eat outside evening meal was plentiful and the sweets out of this world no good if on a diet. breakfast good continental or cooked and you could have as much as you wanted. found staff all very friendly and hard working all they wanted to do was make there guests comfortable. Bar good and prices reasonable. internet was okay but only lasts four hours you then have to get another password from reception.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the lake can be noisy due to main road outside back rooms very quiet but no view.
