Porta castellana is a good choice, has a good price, breakfast is simple but good, served outside with a nice view from the hills of the city. The owner is very friendly, has a parking lot and good bed and bathroom. To go downtown you will have to walk quite a bit, there is this long stairway to get downtown, other than this good choice

We stayed here in Oct 2013 for 2 nights. The owner is a classy lady who readily provides good advice on how to spend your time. We like the exposed bricks in the bedroom and the furnishings are kept small so you have room to move about the room. Breakfast is mostly breads, some cheese, and coffee/juice. The disappointment we experienced is that there was mold growing all over the bathroom walls and ceiling. Luckily, there was tile from the floor to half way up all of the walls so there was no mold there. When we returned back to our room after a full day of sightseeing, the cleaning crew had picked up the dirty hand towel that we purposely balled up and placed under the sink up and hung it to dry on the towel rack with the other damp hand towel that we wanted to keep, so we didn't know which was the slightly used one and which was the dirty one from the floor. They also took the bath mat towel and hung it to dry over the bidet. Yuck. Luckily, these issues are all easy to resolve for future guests. Due to the old narrow streets and some lack of street signs (not the fault of the hotel), it is a bit difficult to know where to turn coming in and out of the city, and it is about as far from the city entrance as you can go. There is more than enough space for parking here at the hotel/B&B. Due to a combination of the mold and location, we aren't likely to choose to stay here again.

An awesome place to stay in Montalcino. The owner is a really great person, she gives you a lot a helpful information. Very very clean room. Well located!

When you book this b&b you will receive directions to get there, print those and follow them. The place is not easy to find as montalcino is a really old city with restricted roads to pedestrians! But at the end, the efforts you will have to do to get there are really worth it!!

For me it is a no brainer, I would come back here any time! If you are like me and love Brunello, this is the place you must go one in a life time!!!

A friend and I stayed there for a few days back in 2004. Although the place was a little difficult to locate, once on site, the place was amazing and the owner absolutely charming and very helpful. We had such a great time, if I ever need to stay in Montalcino again, I will definitely return there.

I find the most luxurious 5* hotels can make you feel let down if you don't feel welcome. We only stayed here for one night as this was our first time in the area and didn't know which towns we were going to like. Our only regret was not staying longer! Dida was the perfect host, made us feel welcome far away from home and showed us to our very spacious (if you've been to Italy before you know most hotels rooms are tiny) and beatifully decorated room with a big canopy bed. Wireless internet was available in the room, small but nicely decorated bathrooms.
We were recommended a tasting place in town and weren't dissapointed. The B&B was hard to find but you do know this beforehand. She had us follow her on our departure so that we wouldn't get lost. Breaskfast may not be huge but was enough and nicely served in the garden with views of the vineyards.
Walk to town requires to climb what seemed over 100 steps, so be aware of this if you have mobility problems. Dida did offer to take us into town with her car, but we rose to the challenge. I will be staying at Porta Castellana in my next trip to the area.

My husband and I stayed for two nights and we will definitely return. We were given an excellent road description in advance and were welcomed by Dida, the very friendly owner. She gave us great tips for restaurants, nice views, wineyards etc. The room was beautiful and clean and the breakfast was served in the nice garden. We will return! Thank you Dida!

Very nice B&B in the lovely hilltop town of Montalcino. We stayed here for three nights during our honeymoon. It was a bit difficult to find but Annalisa was kind enough to meet us in town and direct us to the location. The room was beautifully decorated, quiet, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast in the garden was enough to get you started for the day. Annalisa even provided extra croissants and rolls when we requested since I have a hungry husband. She was a very gracious host and provided us with excellent recommendations for restaurants and siteseeing tips in the area. We loved being able to walk into Montalcino in the evenings for dinner. Tuscany was a great escape from the crowds of Florence and Rome.
