We almost flew past this restaurant on our way to Montalcino, but someone in the car with a rumbling stomach noticed the small sign saying "Light Lunch - Open" and we screeched to a halt in front of an unprepossessing building. Others in the car didn't think the restaurant looked promising, so one of us got out to check out the interior. And of course Francesca, the most vivacious and charming of Italians, soon had all five of us spellbound by her warmth, enthusiasm and charm. She speaks breathless, heavily accented but very good English and her love for what she does is evident in every word she utters. The food is served completely without pretension but it is all delicious. In addition to eating a lovely lunch, drinking a very nice Rosso di Montalcino and enjoying a long conversation with Francesca who suddenly seemed like an old friend, we bought truffle oil and truffled mushroom paste. This is the kind of find that makes travelling through Italy a true joy. Nothing fancy, but authentic, delicious and full of life. I have no doubt virtually everyone who visits plans to make it a "must do" stop on their next trip to Tuscany.
