We almost flew past this restaurant on our way to Montalcino, but someone in the car with a rumbling stomach noticed the small sign saying "Light Lunch - Open" and we screeched to a halt in front of an unprepossessing building. Others in the car didn't think the restaurant looked promising, so one of us got out to check out the interior. And of course Francesca, the most vivacious and charming of Italians, soon had all five of us spellbound by her warmth, enthusiasm and charm. She speaks breathless, heavily accented but very good English and her love for what she does is evident in every word she utters. The food is served completely without pretension but it is all delicious. In addition to eating a lovely lunch, drinking a very nice Rosso di Montalcino and enjoying a long conversation with Francesca who suddenly seemed like an old friend, we bought truffle oil and truffled mushroom paste. This is the kind of find that makes travelling through Italy a true joy. Nothing fancy, but authentic, delicious and full of life. I have no doubt virtually everyone who visits plans to make it a "must do" stop on their next trip to Tuscany.

This enoteca is a diamond in the rough. You will miss it if you drive too fast along the main road to Montalcino. We visited last year in September and the only indication of the enoteca is a hand written sign by the side of the road that read " Open Light Lunch"
I advise everyone and anyone visiting Montalcino to stop here. It is very unassuming from the outside but inside you will find the most amazing hostess - Francesca!!!!
She is the epitome of Italian hospitality. She amazingly remembered me from my visit 2 years prior!!!!
It was like being welcomed home by a close friend!!
The assortment of wine is only what Francesca believes is the best of the area. She knows her wines and is familiar with the character and charm of each one. We ended up buying several bottles as well as truffle oil, honey and balsamic oil.
She served us lunch, which was a gastronomically assortment display of salumi, prosciutto, and local cheeses. We ate like queens at a feast!! Francesca explained the best pairings of wine, cheese and meat so that every bite was an explosion in our mouths.
We enjoyed ourselves so much that we ended up visiting again during our trip and spent more time with Francesca and her friends and family.
What a truly amazing place.
I will always visit Francesca during every single visit to Montalcino, which I hope will be annually since I think I was born to live there!!!

Francesca - Grazie Mille for our time together.
