We booked for three nights and stayed for two.

I'll be very summary on this review for once as we were so disappointed.

Pros:
- The view is amazing, really.
- The swimming pool, however small offers an even better view.

Cons:
- We could hear the neighbors' phone conversation through the walls, both participants...
- We could hear the bathrooms' noises from our bed. Lovely.
- Old rooms
- We had to tell the cleaning 3 times in the same day not to come in the room as we were desperately trying to get some sleep after a bad night. When she finally left, the reception CALLED us to ask if we wanted cleaning or not...
- We explained to the staff why we couldn't stay in their hotel. Their only answer was that we still had to pay for the third night.

I find it really insulting to be taken for walking wallets and nothing else. I still give it 2 out of 5 for the view but it doesn't deserve anything more.

I think it must be the 5th or 6th time we have stayed at this hotel in Montalcino. It is all about the
view, the pool and the location that brings us back.

However, this was probably the last time we will stay here. The room we got was dark and on the first floor with little sound insulation. We wake up very early due to the noice in the street outside.

Last year, in my review, I wrote the following:
"An advice to the hotel management is to have the reception staff being a bit more attentive to the guests instead of "hiding" behind the desk. They are friendly but not very accommodating unless approached."

Obviously, they don't take this input seriously (as I have seen from other reviews). This is the only hotel in Italy we are treated with such disinterest - even after our 5th stay.

Nice hotel in center of Montalcino. Big clean rooms, very nice breakfast. Small nice pool with fantastic view to Tuscany lanscape. No restaurant in hotel, there is small bar bit you need to ask at reception to be served. Good for 1 noght in city but for longer stay better stay in one of a lot of b&b in winerys

We were in Tuscany for the first time. We spent a week at a Borgo near Monteriggioni, and then in Assisi, and then drove over the mountains to a valley where there were abbeys and castles every few miles. Our goal was to get to Montalcino and Hotel dei capitani. We picked the hotel from Trip Advisor, and had a wonderful surprise. First of all, we spent three wonderful days and nights in Montalcino, a real step back in time. It is a medival town founded in Etruscan times, and walls built by the Sienese in the 13th century. We drove in our little Opal, on a one way street not built for modern transportation, and we followed the signs to a downward sign. The road down was so steep, that we at first feared to drive down, but at the bottom was the Hotel dei Capitani, and we were delighted to have found it by accident. The parking outside the hotel is just for unloading luggage. The parking lot is down another steep road beside the hotel, but at least it was close by. We stepped down into a lovely little lobby, and had a double room on the first floor. It was simple, but outside our window was a fabulous view of the valley below. We loved the intimate nature of the hotel. They seemed to note when we went to the breakfast room, because our room was cleaned by the time breakfast was over. The breakfast included lovely croissants, buns, and a typical amount of sausages, ham, and cheese. There were omelets and cereal. We ate heartily at breakfast, and spent the days sightseeing within the village, and going to wineries outside the walls. We could walk up the hill to a main street and find lovely restaurants. We were not looking for a typical modern American hotel. We wanted to enjoy Tuscany on Tuscany's terms. The Hotel dei Capitani was intimate, clean, charming, and if one wants to spend time in Montalcino and do wine tours nearby I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Our first floor room looking out to the valley below was perfect. The rooms on the street side wou...

I know its only a 3 star hotel but you don't expect to be able to have a conversation with the next room occupants whilst they're using the bathroom in the night!

The hotel is within the town walls so a great location and the views are fabulous from rooms at the back but there I'm afraid it ends.

The place is very 1970's and the rooms need a refurb. We asked for a room change due to the noise but were told that all rooms are the same. We originally booked to stay 4 nights but were forced to check out and go stay somewhere nicer after 2. The hotel of course were unwilling to provide any kind of refund or allow us to cancel the unused nights. How helpful.

A lovely place to spend a few days - or longer - in Montalcino or in the Val D'Orcia area. I stayed a couple of nights here as part of a www.girosole.com organized walking tour of the area, and this was my jumping off point. Well situated with amazing views over the surrounding valleys and hills and with a gorgeous pool, the Capiani that was my late afternoon respite after hiking the local vineyards and farms. After a lovely morning hike and a simple lunch of a prosciutto/pecorino panino and half bottle of montalcino rosso wine - what could be better than a refreshing swim. I also had time and the perfect setting to sketch the gorgeous scenery.

Room Tip: I'm sure if you can reserve a room looking over the valley you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely gorgeous! This small place has great rooms, an amazing pool, and breath taking Tuscany views! It was a perfect way to get away from the huge crowds of tourist I experienced in other Italian cities while on vacation. They have a great little breakfast and wifi. They staff was super awesome too! Its truly a gem, a bit of a drive but well worth it. I wish I stayed longer = )
