“A friendly centre of town B&B”
Reviewed 27 June 2011

This delightful private residence is conveniently placed within Montalcino and makes an excellent base from which to explore the Val d’Orcia. The entrance is on the first floor up three flights of stairs with bedrooms on the second and third floors. The two larger bedrooms which overlook the small courtyard garden are quieter than those facing the narrow street. The car park used by guests is a 15/20 minute walk away depending on whether you are coming or going but luggage can be offloaded before parking.

The charming hosts are extremely helpful and are invariably on hand to offer advice and guidance. Possibly because a stay here is recommended by Rick Steves and on TA guests hail predominantly from north America.

We stayed with Robert and Lucilla at Palazzina Cesira for 5 nights on a wine trip through Italy. This was the perfect location to use as a home base to travel to Montepulciano and other small towns. Being right in the town of Montalcino was great - we could walk to enotecas, restaurants, etc. It was the only town we stayed in on the entire trip, and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the suite on the second floor which was very roomy, had its own TV and coffee service in the room. The windows opened up to a lovely courtyard. Robert and Lucilla are very gracious hosts. Breakfast was more than we could eat. Robert was very helpful in giving us maps, recommendations for drives, wineries and restaurants. We would LOVE to return....soon!!

Room Tip: The mini-suite was very roomy!

This is one of those rare jewels you rarely find in the real world. We stayed 3 nights at this wonderful place. Host (Roberto) and hostess (Lucia) were wonderful. The rooms were large and comfortable. The house is beautiful. Breakfast was great. If you stay here you will be extremely impressed. Montalcino is a great town and this is the nicest place to stay. We will return and when we do we will stay here. I highly recommend.

From the moment we arrived, Lucilla and Roberto welcomed us warmly and got us oriented to Montalcino. The room (mini-suite A, I believe) was huge, and it was so pleasant to stay there for three nights. The tiled floors were heated, which was wooooonderful in winter. Lucilla showed us the room and pointed out the painted ceiling, part of which was the original 13th-century design, with its border painted in the 18th century. The bathroom was great, especially because there were all types of towels provided (including hand towels, which is a rarity in Europe and which, I must admit, I was thrilled to see). It was good to see signs gently reminding guests to turn off their room lights and be thoughtful about water use; environmental stewardship is very important, and it's nice to see that Lucilla and Roberto think so, too.
Palazzina Cesira is located right by the main street and a main square, and is a perfect location; everything you could want to see is within easy walking distance. Its central location doesn't mean it's noisy, though; quite the contrary. It was a very peaceful place to stay.
The breakfasts were so delicious and beyond ample; Lucilla makes eggs any way you'd like, and they are scrumptious. She also makes her own jams, which change often. The large dining table is beautifully set and provides the welcome opportunity to meet other guests, who all seem to be very friendly people.
Lucilla and Roberto provided us with a map of Montalcino (no need for the Tourist Office!) and highlighted their restaurant recommendations (according to Roberto: "In Montalcino, you either eat, or you eat well") and gave us tailor-made suggestions as to things to see and do in the town and the region based on our interests and our type of transport (a.k.a. no car). We visited the abbey at Sant'Antimo, which was a nice little visit.
Also, the market in Montalcino has many cheese vendors; try the Pecorino fresco from Pienza. It is to die for.

A beautiful centuries-old palazzina in which we felt at home immediately. Right in the heart of Montalcino, so easy to enjoy the city. Our hosts, Roberto and Lucilla, were gracious, not intrusive, and went out of their way to assist us in finding transportation on a holiday weekend. Breakfasts were sumptuous, homemade, and creative. Leisurely conversations with our hosts after breakfast and in the later evening gave us an appreciation of the region and culture, as well as suggestions for sights to see. Suggestions for dinner led us to a magnificent New Year's Eve celebration. Definitely our place to stay when we return, hands down!

We found Palazzina Cesira by accident even before the recommendation of some friends of ours. We loved it. In fact, we wish we could have stayed longer. The house was gorgeous and centrally located within Montalcino. The room was beautiful (even though we did not opt for one of the higher end accommodations). The price was reasonable and Robert and Lucilla were more than proprietors, they were hosts. Full of charm and excellent advice for dining and sight-seeing. If we are fortunate enough to make it back to southern Tuscany, we will stay at Palazzina Cesira without a doubt.

We enjoyed our stay in wonderful Montalcino surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Palazzina Cesira is a very beautiful home, a lovingly restored 13th century Palazzo. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and immaculately clean. Breakfast was delicious. Best of all, we had some wonderful conversations with hosts Robert and Lucilla; They were truly gracious, knowledgeable and very helpful. We'd return in a heartbeat!
