“Borgo al Cerro”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

We stayed four nights and found it offered great value. The host & staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in an apartment with breakfast included. It is like an apt without daily maid service. Breakfast (bread, cold meats, juice, coffee, cheese, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit) arrived promptly each day. Plenty of room to move around, table, small sofa, small bathroom but it was fine and a good sized and comfortable bed. The kitchenette was OK, but I really didn't cook there. We were on vacation so we ate out, except for breakfast. They have pay for use laundry machines. We were there in early November so the pool and on site restaurant were closed for the season. Lovely countryside. Walk 800 meters up the hillside to the town for wonderful views and meals. I would certainly return and stay longer, if time permits.

Room Tip: We stayed in apartment 5, I believe. Roomy. If you left the drapes open the morning sun would great...

Far far away, between Toscany hills we found unforgetable residence. There is everythig you need to relax, take a sun/water-bath...live in peace. It is good point to begin fantastic excursion through local villages (we did it every evening). If you like you can go to the local restaurant located in neighborhood (italian cuisine, pizzas, wine). I hope to return there in next year.

We were a group of eight aged 15 through 60 looking for a central location in Tuscany to come back to after visiting sites each day. We stayed in two apartments which worked well for our large group. The grounds are beautiful and the pool area was very relaxing. Additionally, the kitchen was well equipped and we were able to cook some of our meals and eat "al fresco". We had been in London, Paris, and Rome prior to arriving at Borgo Al Cerro. This was the perfect way to end our Europe trip.

My wife and I visited Borgo Al Cerro in 2003 on a previous holiday. We loved the place so much, we booked to stay this year with our kids in the exact same Apartment. With just 15 apartments in the Borgo, you often find you have the pool area to yourself as other guests venture out on day trips. This is such a treat. The 20m x10m pool is an oasis in the Tuscan heat. We had a week of 30 degree (plus) temperatures in June and loved the pool area. It has a small jacuzzi tub 8ft x 6ft which my kids loved too. There's a small playground as well with swings and a play slide.
Our Apartment was perfect (again). Facing the pool, with huge garden. We had 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, living/dining area and kitchen with everything you need for a perfect week away. The manager Pablito was great, very generous and accommodating.
With Tuscany, you will find most places require you to have a car to do anything and this is no different. It's a great base for you to explore the local towns. We did Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano and hardly dented the cars fuel tank.
Pablito, thank you for a great week. We hope to see you again. Grazie mille!

I highly recommend a stay at the Borgo al Cerro. My husband and I spent a week at the Borgo in May 2012. We found it to be clean and cozy, just like a home away from home. The Borgo is owned and operated by a friendly Italian family and their love for the place is evident. The Tuscan landscape is like paradise and the residence is covered in flowers. We started with breakfast on our rose-covered porch and ended each day back on the porch with a drink and a view of the beautiful Tuscan sunset. After full days visiting the historic local hill towns and enjoying fabulous Italian food and gelato, we enjoyed stunning, scenic sunset drives on our way on back to the Borgo. Friendly Pablito will make sure that all your needs are met and refer you to the best local restaurants and sights. There is so much to see in the area. We had a wonderful week and would have loved to stay longer.

This was our first visit to Tuscany and we wanted a central but rural location for our 10 day stay. We couldn't have picked a better place. You are immediately made to feel at home by Pablito, the Manager, on your arrival. He spends time quietly explaining the layout and operation of the place, then escorts you to your apartment where you are again shown round and told how things work. We were immediately impressed by the cleanliness and the fact that the apartment was very well equipped. Our two Border Collies were equally impressed with the apartment's garden (and later by the excellent off-site walks on the various paths!!). You can then bring your car up to your apartment to unload, before parking it in one of the designated areas on site. Within an hour, we were sitting in our garden with the wine open!!
Numerous medieval hilltop towns, including Volterra, San Gimignano, Colle di Val d'Elsa, Poggibonsi, Monteriggioni and Certaldo are within easy driving distance, as is the city of Siena, and the Chianti Classico wine trail through archetypical Tuscan countryside of rolling hills, vineyards and fields of red poppies. We stayed the last week in May and into early June - mid season when the temperature is perfect. The whole site was exceptionally well maintained and the roses, at the time we were there, were beautiful. Indeed the whole place gave the impression of being a professionally run operation.
We had an excellent meal in the restaurant next door (try their 2009 Chianti Classico) as well as in various restaurants at some of the places we've mentioned. If you want a location where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere but also have easy access to the important historical sights and beautiful Tuscan countryside, we would highly recommend this place. Grazie mille Pablito. Ciao! We will return.

My husband and I stayed at the Borgo for 4 nights from 2nd May. On arrival we were met by Pablito who showed us our villa and explained all necessary things. The villa was huge, particularly by comparison with the rooms we had already stayed in in Italy, with the quaintest kitchen locked away in a cupboard. We called it the original kitchen cupboard. The bathroom was clean and for a very small fee there are washing and drying facilities. The bed was comfortable but there was a bit of noise from the people in the villa right above. There was also a patio with table and chairs for outdoor dining. The surroundings were just lovely, lush fields and vineyards and the roses in the garden were gorgeous. There is free internet access and Pablito was very helpful in that regard. The access is via a narrow rough road and could be difficult to find at night. The location is very central to other villages in Tuscany and our favourite would be Colle Val D'Elsa only 10 minutes away. The only negative is the view is somewhat spoilt by the industrial complex at the turnoff which is quite visible from the villa. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Our 15 apartments of various sizes, and our 3 one-room apartments have simple and functional furnishings, but they are warm and inviting. The history of Borgo al Cerro is not easy to reconstruct, but from the old walls one can see signs of fortifications, which were perhaps justified by the fact that it is located on the old customs road for Casole d'Elsa. ... more   less
